@SueJB At least you are getting someone to come out to give you a quote! I'm jealous! We have called contractors here about a room and bathroom expansion and they have a waiting list for work to be done 2-5 years out. So they don't want to even bother with giving quotes. They are so busy they are not taking new jobs!

Morning all!

Still wet and soggy out there, so I'm getting the bus to work. I'm also acknowledging that I'm probably overdoing things on the walking front, well, until the new boots are here, plus the school-aged children using the buses are now more settled into how to do this, so the buses are marginally less horrendous in the mornings now.

The Whirlwind PaperworkTidy up is almost complete. As ever, the thought was worse than the reality, but it was also one of the times where I needed to think about a slightly different filing system for some things as I'm at the end of a 3 years cycle for Sundays and the 2 years cycle for Wednesdays. (I print out readings in a decent font size - it's a small, but relentless task, which has immeasurably improved the quality of the public readings, and also the confidence of those offering to read when they realise they don't have to be dealing with an actual book to read from - especially on days when bits are missed out.) So, a quick trip to buy more lever arch files is on the list!

Morning all, bright and sunny here.......at the mo, but obviously had a fair bit of rain over night.

Washing machine sort of fixed, well it's not leaking everywhere at the mo - fingers crossed.

Nothing special on the BG front, fairly well behaved.

Too late for finishing the course now, as I should have had a tablet at 11PM, 5AM and just now. But I called the GP this morning and asked her if I had done something incredibly stupid or only something very stubborn know-it-all-ish and she decided on the latter. And she agreed with waiting for a couple of days to see how it improved before either starting the course for real or doing something else or nothing at all

Haven't needed any painkillers since yesterday afternoon, nor used the ankle brace I had used to make the pain a bit more bearable.
It's still hot and swollen though, and painful with unplanned moves.
So fingers (very carefully) crossed this will resolve itself, whatever it is. At least I'm back to my usual 2-fingered typing!

Stair rods here earlier and just when I was walking back from taking Renault in for his first MOT with me as the owner. They said they'd call when it's ready and they haven't which worries me as it was also having a service too
Electricity man came and said he couldn't change the meter to install a "Smart" one because the old one has asbestos inside!!
It's got a warning sticker on now and we have to contact them for a specialist to come and change it.
So all the stuff that was in the pantry and is scattered about the kitchen and various other places will have to go back and come out again.
The good news is that while it was piddling down, I took refuge in M&S and bought a bargain. A whole duck going cheap/cheep

5.2 this morning, unfortunately the period is adding to my tiredness and hunger, great combination right? I guess I’ll eat while I’m sleeping. I pray everyone is doing okay, some parts of England is starting to flood from the heavy rain.

We had a similar problem with a smart meter. The guy was more than happy to fit a meter to the electricity supply as it was on the wall.
Refused point blank to do the gas supply as it was sitting on the floor, which has Marley floor tiles. Apparently they contained asbestos back in the 60’s 70’s. No way to know how old they were so job didn’t get done.
I actually googled how to deal with these tiles. Hmmmmmm. H&S v common sense.

I do have smart meters, but it was not without pain and anguish. "Oh, this'll be a lovely, easy job - easy access" they announced as I showed them the old meters. Let's just say it wasn't, I was compelled to point out my expectation of anything to do with utility companies was rock bottom at that stage, having had a horrific saga with the same company at Former Abode. It's currently all OK, but I have a lever arch file full of documents, letters and phone call logs about it all. It would be a training manual for how not to handle all this stuff. The Ombudsman agreed with me.

"This stuff" includes

• replacing a meter in Former Abode, and then being unable to produce a bill for two years, after several years of them struggling to produce a bill without me ringing up to nag about it, as that meter was never registered properly.
• being unable to produce a final bill for Former Abode as a result of the meter problem and sending no less than 15 versions of the "Final Bill" none of which were based on the correct readings, which had been given to them in writing and verbally on numerous occasions.
• shutting down my account and randomly opening another one for Current Abode.
• the smart meters debacle at Current Abode.

I will not, under any circumstances, do Direct Debit with these companies as I do not trust them to get it right. (As previous experience of that caused issues with unauthorised overdrafts after the random raising of DDs without telling me.)

Nearly used Young Vampire's finger pricking device by mistake this morning. My identical one now has a sticker on it!! Normally I do VP then me, but the handwashing was taking so long I had just decided to do mine while I was waiting, then VP appeared just in time to remind me it was not my finger pricking device, or my BG meter. I'm just coveting that BG meter really, even if I'd really rather do my own insulin calculations than having the machine do it. Some days, it would be nice not to have to think!

It's only good for flippers and goggles out there. Hope everyone is dry and warm. I'm off to Australia tomorrow. I have my extra medical supplies my hand luggage (thank you for suggesting this), and travel insurance (thanks again for suggesting Money supermarket), a print out of my prescriptions, frio bags, a letter from my specialist etc, etc, etc. What a palaver. I'm still wistfully looking at the dress I want to wear to the wedding but I no longer fit into. Alas, it's staying at home. I'm going to have a set an alarm for my basal over my thirty-hour flight. I had a friend suggest that sounded relaxing. She definitely hasn't done such a flight before. I haven't on insulin. I think it's time to start watching the Qantas 'I still call Australia home' advertisements.

Hope no one’s spent the day baling water - very soggy times.

Been to the last of the spread birthday lunches - delicious Turkish mezze (Greece and Turkey still affiliated if only in food), with great natter between more old friends. I find I have a number of different ‘sets’ of friends who are wonderful if seen in appropriate groups. Lovely afternoon, wandered round shops and limited spending to eucalyptus oil to try to get paint stains off, more paints, sunflower seeds for the birds and a pack of stickers to put on cards and pressies. Feeling very proud that I didn’t subject them to a long wait while I tried stuff on but may go back and do that tomorrow as an emollient after dentist check up. Hope stitches will be removed.
