Hat tip to Dr Fraser Gibb who has been tweeting some libre results.

He's at the Infirmary in Edinburgh, which was one of the first to give libre on script back in March, so they've got a few months data to play with.

Not every new user has been back for their 6 month checkup and an updated a1c, so it's an incomplete picture, but the numbers seem pretty impressive: 12% getting <48 a1c pre-libre, doubles to 23.5% after.

It's all good news, the reduction in the number with >75 hbA1c is extremely good, plus the increase in the >58 range.

I was usually in the >58 range, and when I went to see them they'd tell me I was one of the good ones, and that would really scare me, because if I was one of the better ones how bad was everyone else? So it's good to see people with higher hbA1cs getting better results.

@smc4761 and @Alison54321 , I've not been following the politics of it too much, but I think some of the obstinate non-funding areas were saying a1c was the gold standard for measuring control, they got that through 6 monthly tests, so they just weren't interested in paying for all the new fancy things which libre provides like time in range, AGP and standard deviation - they weren't convinced that that sort of stuff was clinically important.

Seeing as the bean counters attach so much weight to a1c, it's going to put their gas at a peep if clinicians like Dr Gibb can continue to produce numbers from the real world showing a1cs dropping like a stone within a few months.

Well today has been interesting started off after midnight with an annoying alarm telling me I was at 2.8, jelly babies sorted that out.

Then all morning running up between 8.5 and 11 even doing correction doses and gym did not seem to bring in down.

So sat here all afternoon watching some great anime on Netflix then Ghostbusters, the remake of 2016 which was great.

And most of the afternoon the alarms have gone off, a couple of times, it's set for 3.9. Not done owt about it, just left and only dipped to low 3.
xDrip has been a bit of a Tommy Tanker, was going to uninstall/reinstall but it has now sorted itself out after a recalibrate.

I dont do politics Scott, all I care about is people getting the best available help with their type 1. Thing is if someone is testing regularly using finger pricks this is costing jut about as much as a Libre.

The Libre gives so much information and helps me make adjustments to my dose as required, therefore I hope giving me better control.

Hopefully Dr Gibb and others across the UK can produce similar figures and we will all benefit

Thanks again for posting Scott really interesting reading

Respect, I have no idea how you can go up and down ladders all day. Anymore than about 8 steps up and I just about freeze.

looks like you have a few big decisions to take, just take your time and do what you think is right for your kid and yourself
It's funny as when I started this I worked for a guy, he did 'tops' I did bottoms and that's what we did, I'm not that fond of heights myself, but after 4 years his drinking was a problem, I'd brought him a fair amount of work to add to his round so we did a deal, I kept the area where I live and he kept some of mine, it just meant growing a pair and doing the tops if I wanted to carry on earning a living, I've done ok, fallen twice (one hypo one misjudgement and got stuck on a first floor pitched roof and had to ring a mate to come hold my ladders :p ) but for me it's a good idea, I'm a bad time keeper and dong this I've no-one on my back as I'd had for 14 years working full time in my skilled trade as a T1d.

What would you like to do instead?
I smiled at that as I honestly don't know, going back into engineering was always the plan but I'm older now and hardly a catch for an employer, tho I do a little 'jobbing' work in my shed as I've some machines in there although currently the council won't let me run a business from home and they'd love my 400v 3 phase electrics too but from the stuff I have done realise that I'm not equipped for production runs, and all the old guys I've made steam engine bits for over the years are dead or no longer steaming.

Sounds like you are at a crossroads @kev-w. Which can be both daunting and exciting. You will know what feels right in the end and I wish you much luck. Oh and filling a skip is very satisfying.

I read that and thought nail on head with me being at a crossroads :) it kind of made the penny drop! It certainly is as you say daunting and exciting and both at the same time, and thanks :)

Me neither, still in my PJs ;)

Been bouncing off the floor all day, so have backed off my pump by 20%, I think it’s the cooler weather...
@Mel dCP What about the painting and sanding as a reason for lows and need for less insulin ?? And why does not your Ruler of the Multiverses status not exempt you from the hypos and hypers ?

Been back on usual doses of antidepressants for 5 weeks and the insulin requirements have stayed down compared to when I had reduced the anti-d doses. And I have been on lower carbs (now max. of about 120 g per day), and even less insulin on days with more exercise. Time to see the doctor though as the lower girdle pain (no I do not wear one, that is just a description of where the pain is)!! is persisting. It started gradually some months ago and is there when I wake, does not change appreciably with BSLs.
You think it is age ?? Never! I am in denial and wish to remain young forever but at least I can ask the doctor to tell me straight and not rely on my slightly bias opinion of myself.
How often to we battle through the ups and downs, accepting that that is our lot in life when there might just be something happening, which is not just the #@!*&^%% diabetes, or there is something that would ease your situation or at least help us understand better what is happening ?
And when a real live human bean (as my eldest used to call people) face to face can help us better than a book, an A1 etc?
Progress report later, probably after vampire therapy, maybe XRay and other radiation exposure which will leave me glowing in the dark, and even a therapeutic trial of the next wonder drug on the market!! Whopee, an experimental subject again, NOT !!!
Pay no attention, I am a big boy now, developmentally, not in kilos, and can fight my own battles against the windmills of time !!

Ah phew slightly relieved I am not the only one doing the yo yo.. had a day out yesterday and was up to 15 and down to 7, but couldn’t stay on the straight and narrow, high again last night so going to run it off shortly, good luck to anyone else going through the same.

Morning! Having spent yesterday indoors, (rain/organist work to catch up on/church social media to untangle after 3 weeks neglect and discovering FB/Twitter accounts which were linked were now unlinked which is unhelpful) doing very little except falling asleep when not chained to a computer, I was running high all day. Meh. I had walked 22 miles the previous day, and was hoping the effects of that were going to last a little longer as I knew this day was likely to be an inactive one.

It looks a nicer day today so far, so will pootle off for a stroll soon, possibly via a supermarket for packed lunch supplies which seem low.

Where has August gone to? I'm sure it's way too soon to be going back to work (on Thursday). Though, judging by the tired looks on parents' faces and the high level of energy from the rested, bored youngsters I keep encountering, it is about time really.
