Type 1'stars R Us

Hey @chris85 type 1 Honestly I don't care and I think most of us on this thread don't care what you eat, it's learning to dose properly is the only reason we would ask. Don't worry about what you eat so much as to dose for what you eat. We are all better off if we eat healthy but that's not the point.

So when I say Weetabix and toast are more carbs, I don't care you ate it, I am just saying it has more carbs? I eat what I want, whether it's 120 carb pizza or a 20 carb veggie bowl. So the trick here was if you double portioned your food in the morning did you take extra insulin to account for it? And if you did enough extra? The enough would be judged by if you are at "normal" levels 4 hours later. I prefer to be normal in 2 hours too, but it is harder to accomplish that! Get down the basics and then you can start fine tuning!!!!!

ok i'll be level with you i worry about nocturnal hypo's i have had atleast seven where i dont wake up each time i drop i seizure so i cant go to bed with normal sugars ill eat some crackers (too many to raise my sugar) so i dont hypo

I understand, but at the moment with your readings, it’s not making you feel any better in terms of mood and mental clarity. Once you get on board with DAFNE and work out your carb ratios, I promise you things will get better.

i didn't take any extra because i was at 9.0 for a change this morning and had lots of exercise planned

If you agree to a libre, Chris, you can purchase a MiaoMiao. This device is attached to the Libre and you can set alarms on it which will give you prior warning of blood sugar drops and rises. You can then give yourself a correction dose or some carb.
I really like the sound of MeiChanski’s pump too. Who knows, you might be offered one of those - ask your DSN to refer you to the Consultant?

when i eat the crackers i do take a small dose like 2 or three units last night i took 6 tonight im not going to eat any thing tonight maybe take 30 units of levemir see what happens this time

@chris85 type 1 please don't despair. Every T1 deserves all the help they can get from wherever it comes. Go for DAFNE, it'll help a lot and when I did mine (many years ago!) I got great comfort from being in the same room with a group of T1s as for the first time I was surrounded by people who really got it. In fact my group stayed in touch and met up regularly for years afterwards.
I think you've had some great advice already and I don't need to add to that, though I would suggest you really hammer the point about your night-time hypos when you see your diabetes team. It may be that you'd be considered for cgm with alarms? Whatever, good luck, and keep asking questions, this is such a great source of knowledge and information.

thank you

I heard the Tandem & Dexcom combination is pretty sweet too. Chris, you need to stay in contact with your team in order for them to help you. Like you, I had a few hypoglycaemia accidents where I needed an ambulance and I wouldn’t have gotten the help today if I hadn’t joined this forum and if i wasn’t pestering them and staying on board with their advice. You don’t have to live with high blood sugars with the fear of nocturnal hypos and you especially don’t have to feel poopie all day because of high blood sugars.

Well, quitting smoking helps make you feel hungry, but also higher numbers can too as with too low numbers. Because it doesn't matter if you ate plenty, if you don't have the proper insulin to utilize it you're not absorbing all of it. So people can feel hungrier when they are at higher BG levels. I get the worry at night, before my CGM and my pump which allow for better control I used to want to go to bed at around an 8 level because I would commonly drop a lot at night.

Chris, if you go to your next appointment, explain the situation to them, they can apply for funding for diabetes technology providing that you fit under the criteria, which I am confident that you do.

This also depends on where in England, different CCGs have different fundings and some do have issues with getting libres and CGMs
