Type 2 Life

Good Evening, my lovely friends on the www.diabetes.co.uk Type 2 Life Forum,

I am posting to inform you that today was a better day with some blood glucose readings regarded as average/optimum but after some snacks they shot up to 8.7/8.8 but soon came down again with the help of the Insulin production in my pancreas and the introduction of glucagon-like compounds manifest in my Lixisenatide injection which I had this morning. Late afternoon I consumed a bowl of some kind of French Onion Soup from a sachet with boiling water from my kettle in a white bowl with floral patterns with 2 slices of Kingsmill 50/50 bread, one a crust and one an ordinary slice. Then approximately 45 minutes afterwards my friend visitted and shared his southern fried chicken hot and spicy wings with me and I had four chicken wings in total with batter and other ingredients. In the early evening, I took a ready meal of spaghetti bolagnese and some other groceries to my diabetic friend with mobility problems and a mental health disability and she gave me a small amount of food left over from the weekend, which comprised two pork sausages and pasta in tomatoes with cooked onion which I ate. Then I smoked approximately 5-6 Holborn Yellow Tobacco hand-rolled cigarettes, had 2 sprays of Nicorette FineMist which is a nicotine replacement therapy product and approximately 6-7 glasses of tap water. I took my blood glucose reading at approximately 5:48pm and it was 5.7 millimoles per litre once the food I ate was digested and glycaemia stabilised.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Johnny Baker
Sufferer of autistic spectrum disability with a strong susceptibility to clinical depression with marked psychotic features.

1.8g carbs per stick......if you can resist eating more than one at once. Nice little
treat....

Okay so had homemade fresh chicken curry, no added junk with two small whole wheat chappatis again home made for dinner, and had an small satsuma as wanted something sweet. sugar before dinner was 5.8, 2hrs later, it's 10.1. Not sure if satsuma or chappatis. Will cut out satsuma next time and see.

@Aamena1980 it will be the chappatis. Next time try just one and the satsuma, save it for after your 2 hour test....
Also did you thicken the curry sauce with anything?

At 10:25 Post Meridian at the close of Monday 16th May, 2016 my blood glucose level was 6.2 Millimoles Per Litre after consuming 1 mug of Red Mountain coffee, 1 teaspoonful of Coffeemate and 3 0 Calorie Silver Spoon artificial sweetener tablets, 5-6 glasses of tap water and approximately 6-7 Holborn Yellow Tobacco hand-rolled cigarettes. Nicotine does statistically elevate blood glucose in diabetic conditions some medical websites have conveyed to me.

At 6:04 Ante Meridian at sunrise on the lovely sunny Tuesday 17th May, 2016, I administered my Lixisenatide glucagon-like peptide injection, my metformin, anti-hypertensive medications, anti-urinary retention medications and medications for meltdowns in my autistic spectrum disability. My blood glucose level (fasting) was 6.6 Millimoles Per Litre.

Morning all. Now into 11 hours of this week's fast. Lovely morning and yeah.....after 8 weeks with no cardio, I've been for my first run. Just 800 meters and it nearly killed me but I didn't stop and did it in 5 mins - rubbish pace, but eh I've started again and NO chest pain. I e done nothing other than my strict LCHF with weekly intermittent fasting, so am pleased. More gardening on the cards for me today

That's the way to go about... track them down and rule them out.

Loving my GP who I went to see yesterday.

I have to wait a week, but he wants to give me another blood test as my recent BS results have reduced so dramatically and because I haven't lost any weight, is testing for thyroid too. He also agreed to look at reducing Glic when my blood got to the 60% level (he initially said 50% but changed his mind) ... oh and my strips are still on prescription. He loved the graph that my monitor created which shows the dramatic reduction in BS in my daily testings.

@Tim55 wow!
What have you changed? Much lower. Have you increased your R-ala?

Unfortunately, I haven't made any conscious changes at all - and its back a more normal (for me) 5.5 today.

It just seems as though I have a few in the 4s every 6 weeks or so, then it climbs back up to the high 5s,

If I can figure out how to attach a graph or 2 I could show it better.

Just had an armful of blood taken - about 8 vials I think for a battery of tests, including an Hba1c which I am hoping to see around 30 this time, based on my analysis of my average figures.

If I'm somewhere near then I figure I am managing this effectivly - If I'm way off, maybe I'm fooling myself....

Two and a half weeks ago, I messed up my foot, tore ligaments/bad sprain. I had been doing so well on my meals/exercise. Now I'm almost completely sedentary with a stupid foot that won't take weight... And my weight loss has stalled, my appetite is wonky, and I'm going mad with boredom. Tomorrow I see the orthopeadic specialist again and I'm scared she's going to say more invasive treatment will be needed. I'm supposed to book my 3month follow-up after my initial T2D diagnosis for this week, but I can't get to the clinic to see the doctor - and to be honest, I am scared that I have not controlled it as well as I think I have. Or that my body is super-resistant or something. I know stress and pain can affect blood sugars, so I'm worried it will make my hba1c messed up as I've been in a lot of pain these past two and a half weeks.

Ugh. Y'all just seem so supportive. Guess I just needed to vent. I live with a family who simply doesn't "get it"... I'm doing very low carb/high fat - mainly carnivore with salad only when I crave veg, so not every day... And my Hunny eats sleeves of Jaffa cakes at a time right in front of me. His BS was just fine. So unfair.

Thanks for listening to me moan.

Hi @Tim55 there is no foolery.
My bgs are far lower on r-ala. Insulin is still high so really i could reduce insulin so id have readings of 6-7 low carbing and 10-13 with low sugar carb, again.
Currently 4-5 low carbing and 8-11with low sugar carbs.
Low carbing for me is currently too much protein. New aim is to reduce protein intake.
I can definitely see a difference.
After hba1c is best time to experiment but I'm not suggesting you stop suppliments but metformin can be looked at. Apparently it only makes a small difference on bgs.
When I was taking it I saw a huge difference but I had a smaller 3 meals only routine.
Having 2 kids has messed up my routine so I need to look at that too.
I'm snacking on protein and a small protein supper to reduce liver dump. I will get rid of protein mid afternoon snack.
I don't take metformin just mixed 8hr insulin 3x a day.
I cannot wait to see your results. You might find lower than you think. Meters vary.

Hi Sable_Jan, nope nothing added to thicken curry etc, just what I had written. The chappatis are so small that one is just two or three mouthfuls. Oh well.

I feel really happy this morning. From an administration facilitator called Charlotte at www.diabetes.co.uk, I was the recipient of a parcel which was my One Touch Select Plus blood glucose monitor. It is a state-of-the-art device that informs one if their blood glucose is low, in-range or high. It also gives the reading in mmol readings, too. I set the time and date on it and chose the language of my country.

I saw one of my best, but slightly ambivalent, friends called Lee and he treated me to a full english breakfast to say thank you for always being there for him and for supporting him to go on a drug rehabilitation programme and maintain contact with his family and for myself teaching him ICT, which I am proficient at. For my breakfast, I consumed 2 rashers of bacon, 1 pork sausage, 1 medium-sized portion of fried mushrooms, 1 slice of fried tomato, 1 moderate portion of baked beans, 1 medium-sized fried egg, 1 slice of toast, 1 moderate portion of chips, and 1 Cafe Latte with no sugar. On my new monitor, my blood glucose was high - 10.7 mmol.

This is only a one-off and I really enjoyed myself with my friends Matthew and Lee at the cafe.

I broke my ankle quite badly a couple of years ago (having seriously messed up the same leg about 10 years before that), so I can relate to exactly how you're feeling regarding the pain, fears for the future, fears for your weight loss and BG levels, etc.
But take heart, although two & a half weeks seems like a lifetime when you're going through all this, it still is quite early days. At least with each day that passes you know you'll actually be getting better, and your OS will decide the quickest way to get you healing and back on your feet.
Boredom and frustration can make our minds run like a rat in a trap, so it's good if we can try and channel that energy into something positive (no matter how sedentary!), to counteract the fear. Writing, painting, some sort of craftwork.... or maybe hurling knives creatively at a wall! Whatever floats your boat... (and I'd definitely put the kibosh on those Jaffa cakes! LOL)
Good luck with it - and keep sharing, it's very therapeutic!
Hugs x

Hi @Myangelsmom .
You're not alone. Welcome to the thread.
I'm only diabetic in my huge family too. Enjoy joining in.

Well done, Johnny, and I'm glad you'r enjoying your new monitor.
I regularly go out for a full English breakfast with my daughter and granddaughters (well, they mostly just play on the Softplay) and I must admit, I thoroughly enjoy it, too.
I agree that your BG was a little high, though (I presume this test was 2 hours after breakfast?). Maybe next time you could try having ordinary coffee instead of the latte, and substitute another egg instead of the toast and chips - that might make a difference... (I usually avoid the beans, too, as they often contain quite a lot of sugar.)
It's good to hear that you have such a strong network of friends and that you are so supportive of them. And don't let this just be a one-off; the food will be good for your BG levels and the fun and interaction with your friends is definitely good for the soul!
