Thank you for your replies I must say I have been worried I have a sweet tooth and am fighting it.I was concerned as he won't let me test my blood so I have no way of knowing what my blood is and I am on warfarin as I am suffer of clots. I will get an appointment and talk to him about testing and blood readings and get a fuller picture.xx Thank goodness for this forum. One question if I want to go low carb what is the first thing I should change as I tried to do too much in one go last time....so I think a slow approach is better. x thank you for your help xx
Have you tried the low carb programme on this website? It's an excellent introduction to LCHF...

It is not for the Dr to decide if you test or not, they can, and do, decide not to fund it by way of prescription. That does not prevent you from buying your own and testing away. Sprit healthcare are currently providing a meter and 10 strips for free, yes £0. Further strips are £7.75 for 50. I would strongly advise you to get a meter and find out what foods have the greatest impact on your bloods

Hello @Motherhen2014 - Agree with @walnut_face 100%. You may not get a Blood Glucose Meter free from your GP and/or Diabetes Nurse and be told not to test! But, it gives you a much better understanding of how foods affect your Blood Sugars. It is vital to have a Meter for all Diabetics.
There is another site which is just as popular with Forum Members for the SD Codefree Blood Glucose Meter the test strips are the cheapest to buy, and if bought in bulk they work out even cheaper.
Here is the website:
http://homehealth-uk.com/all-products/codefree-blood-glucose/
State you are Diabetic for VAT exemption. In the UK we use mmol/L.
If buying in bulk - below are the discount codes.
5 packs = 264086. 10 packs = 975833.

Hello @Piccyman :). You have to change your present diet and cut out all things such as: sugary stuff, biscuits, cakes, white bread, rice, pasta, potatoes.
Have you thought about the LCHF Diet (Low Carb High Fat) a lot of Forum Members follow this and it does work in lowering their Blood Sugars, HBA1C and weight too.
Take a look at:

We are here to help in whatever way we can. Just ask if not sure about anything. :) And you do have a Blood Glucose Meter?

I have Asperger Syndrome which is an autism spectrum condition and a full diagnosis of Adult ADHD which are characterised by impairments in social communication, social interaction and social imagination. I also have a rigid and somewhat unpredictable routine. I also experience obsessive rituals, some a bit overwhelming. But I have a talent in articulate creative writing skills and possess a photographic rote memory. I have sensory sensitivity and get upset by loud noises, bright colours or lights, and notice the texture and consistency of certain foods more making my dietary choices extremely limited or restricted to certain food components. I dislike conflict and lies. The Adult ADHD also makes me very moody and cross.
I'm afraid to say that I relapsed on my fabulous 11 day smoking quit at 4:10 pm on Saturday 18th February 2017 after I ran out of the very helpful mouth sprays. on www.quitnet.com I've reset my quitdate for tomorrow, Tuesday 21st February 2017. I swee this as a "blip", a mistake but my smoking cessation specialist believes in me and has inherent faith in me to succeed in my quit.

my blood glucose reading before lunch today was a brilliant 5.1 millimoles per litre. This morning I've eaten a good amount of food; 2 bags of sainsburys basics potato crisps, 5 frankfurters and 3 tomato sandwiches with salt at 3 separate intervals today plus 1 after taking my 5.1 millimoles per litre blood glucose.

I'm so sorry for the disjointedness of this post. There is an abusive, Portuguese gentleman making impertanant remarks to library staff who have telephoned the police for his removal following his disruptiveness. It's making me very nervous.

I love you all very much. I know I can achieve this quit tomorrow.

Love

From

Hello Liam,
I don't really much sugar, however i do eat about 500-750gms of fruit for lunch 5 days a week and I do eat pasta a fair bit.
My diet does seem to be quite carb based, the reason for this is due to being diagnosed years ago with a non alcoholic fatty liver, so was told by the docs to keep to a lower fat diet.

So i am a but stuck on what to eat,
As from yesterday my lunch has now been replaced with Chicken salad, and i guess i will have salad with some sort of meat for dinner. I always have porridge for breakfast, with nothing added.

The doc said not to change my diet at all, seem he knows alto about diabetes :-(

Also I don't drink or smoke.

Hmmm Low-fat diet seems to be the fix for everything. might even fix my car!!!
@Piccyman no doubt about it fruit and carbs will push your blood sugars up. Try it on your HCP, and when they deny it ask them why those on insulin have to count carbs to determine how much insulin they need to inject

@autisticwonder1970 worry not about smoking one gasper (cigarette), think how much you have saved by not having any for 11 days. If you find yourselve without mouth spray again, try a glass of water, and squeeze your hand into a fist, hold for 3 seconds and release slowly, repeat 10 times - not the water :D

What is odd, 2hrs after eating the fruit, my BG hardly changed

@Piccyman - Hello :). I too have Fatty Liver and was only diagnosed with it last year (October, 2016). I started a Low Fat Diet and lasted just over 2 weeks. I saw the Liver Specialist again only this month and my Liver Function Blood Tests had not decreased much. So, I was asked to go back on the Low Fat Diet = which I did.
I am tagging you over at the Thread for Fatty Liver.
Pleased you bought a Blood Glucose Meter - that was/is a very good decision :).

I have just looked over some of my results before and after eating Approx 500gms of fruit for lunch, and in most cases the BG has gone down slightly after 2 hrs.

I am not sure if the diabetes i have is typical,
Eat lots of fruit and BG goes down slightly
Play football and BS 3 hrs after goes up 2 or 3
Potato chips make no difference, but processed chips like quavers seem to make it go higher.

Its almost like i my insulin is released only for certain foods, and for the foods the body doesn't like its takes a lot longer to respond
I seem to peak BG 2-3 hrs after eating.

@asparagusp and @Providence 62 - Hi:). Should you get anxious about doing a fasting? Then I personally would not bother. Being worried, stressed, anxious even illness can push up blood sugars. My HBA1C result is more important as this gives me a true indication of how controlled my Diabetes is.:)
Though there maybe some on here who may 'criticise' and/or disagree with me for saying this? But, then this is only my opinion.
Have a good day Ladies :).

Hello There to all my friends on Type II Life and a very good, peaceful and fulfilling, stress-free afternoon to you,

I'm back on my Smoking Quit now and had my last roll-up last night at 7:45 post meridian. So far today, I worked out that I've achieved over 15 hours of abstinence from cigarettes, carefully and conscientiously following the Smoking Cessation Specialist's advice of using the Mouth Sprays every 1/2 hour instead of nearly every 3 minutes which was really silly, I know. I'll try the glass of water, @walnut_face, my dear, good friend. And also the fist-clenching exercise, or better still a stress-reliever, in the form of a small rubber shaped object that one can really exert any stress or pressure from the cigarette smoking addiction.

My blood glucose reading this morning was 6.5 millimoles per litre and my Carbon Monoxide Reading Yesterday was 21 Parts Per Million and flashing red lights on the Monitor.

I have faith that I can ace my 11-Day Quit and stay Quit for ever.

Much love to you all, my dear Friends.

From,

Johnny Baker (@autisticwonder1970)

A fasting?? no chance! - way too fond of my food to do that. I will keep tweaking the intakes and work harder on handling stress.
