Brought my ladder, found out a new ladder has been installed onboardlastyear! :hilarious:

I had a wonderful day, great sailing (we must have tacked at least 40 times!), wonderful group!
At the end of day one they're already able to hoist and lower the sails by themselves without additional instruction from me, not something all groups manage on day 5, and that's including groups without learning disabilities. :)

One of them is a born deckhand, will have a talk with the non-disabled helpers to ask if it would be possible for him to work a regular job as a deckhand despite his disability.
Not only does he have a feeling for the workings on board and insight in the mechanics of it, he also is a natural when it comes to instructing his peers to solve an issue cropping up.

It made him sad it wouldn't be possible for him to do this work but he had trouble explaining exactly why his disability would make it impossible and asked me to ask the helper because she'd be able to explain better.
@Antje77 You will have to keep track of this sailing boat "Sailors with disAbilities" in the Sydney to Hobart race at xmas.

Watching SBS World News last night, and one of the adverts was for Bowel Cancer Australia, it was very well presented showing the polyps in the colon and bowel.

Here's part of it that is shown on there website, a selection of low fibre recipes there as well.

https://www.bowelcanceraustralia.org/

Thanks for putting that on the thread. It's very interesting and informative. Much more information than has been available to me here in UK, despite twice having to have polyps removed - first time they were malignant, second time just pre-cancerous.

I'm sitting here with a cookery programme on TV which is currently showing a chef making a dish using multiple meats in a pot with some vegetables and it has come to me that I really don't want to eat meat! That's a bit of a shame because that's been the basis of getting my BG down a bit - I'm not that keen on vegetables either. I suppose I'm getting to the point of just not liking food very much, but I do get hungry from time to time so will have to have something that is not too high in carbs. I wonder if there is something as a purely liquid diet - other than milk shakes which are a bit rich and yukky. Have to look into this.

Another wonderful sailing day!

And the group will order pizza's tonight but they asked would I like something else,a salad or meat or such, so very thoughtful!

So I mentioned spareribs, which are likely marinated in something carby but still much easier to handle than a pizza.
A salad would be the safer option of course but I definitely do not want to be the one eating salad while everyone is enjoying their pizza. :D

We need a smiley symbolizing envy :hilarious:Congratulations to you! I hope your diabetes responds well to the spareribs.

Feel for you @Annb sounds difficult are you thinking about liquid meals to give you a range of nutrition? I’ve never done them but I’m sure there will be people on this forum who have done a low carb liquid meal replacement often as a way of losing weight. If so maybe put a post up asking for recommendations as think they vary lots both In tolerability and carb content.
Edit think maybe look at and or post on low calorie diets thread?

That will be a good place to look. I've seen a few ideas on the internet but I think I'll be sensible and leave it for a while and not decide to go headlong into anything while I'm feeling a bit out of sorts. Neil has suggested that I should do a covid test since I'm feeling a bit off and Alistair has tested positive. Maybe that's all it is. Actually, thinking about it, I haven't gone right off of fish so, if I can get some half decent fish, I could keep going on that for a while.

Since I had been telling you all about my brother and his surgery, I thought I would give what should be a final update: he has cast aside the zimmer frame and then the walking stick he was given and can climb the stairs without using the handrail now. Yesterday he got up and made the breakfast porridge and cleaned down the work surfaces in the kitchen. I guess he's back to normal.

However, he did say that while he was sedated and it was thought that he was unaware, he was hallucinating much of the time while actually being aware of things happening around him and being done to him - his brain was just interpreting events in its own way so it was a kind of living hell for those 6 weeks. He says he would rather he was just allowed to die than go through that again and has told his wife that if he is ever in that position again, she is to make sure he is not resuscitated but just let go. I had a suspicion it was being that bad for him and was worried for his mental state as a result. However, it's all over and he is almost back to his old self and I am so thankful.

Just had an e-mail from the online medical consultant about my legs. He reckons that the issue I have is with varicose veins deep inside my legs so no surgeon would be able to do anything about them. So, basically, I'm stuck with them - and the eczema that it causes. However, he is suggesting yet another course of antibiotics and a different ointment to try to reduce the burning in my legs. Oh dear - this getting old business is definitely not for cissies!

@Antje77 tell us how the story with the spareribs ended. How did you survive it? Have your dogs taken your food away from you?

It ended amazing!
They were very good spareribs, and a lot of them too!
I was approaching a low before eating but the amount of sugar in the marinade did the trick perfectly, making me rise to 5.5. :)

The dogs aren't allowed downstairs with the guests, so they were in bed in my cabin because it rained and the poor creatures had to make do with dog food.

They had sausages again for lunch today so all is well!

Sorry I don’t keep up with this thread much but I’m pretty sure someone will know the answer to my question. I want to know the best magnesium supplement to take by mouth. I’ve used spray up to now but it’s messy that I usually just give up applying it and resort to bending my foot against the cramp and waiting for it to ease. However still suffering with my broken big toe I’m between the cramp and hurting my toe to resolve it. So any links to your recommendations would be appreciated. Thanx

Had a visit from the new pup that is being kept from Ginnie's litter. It is sooo very cute, soft and cuddly. Already weighs about 11lb and showing signs of growing into a big, big dog. (Huge paws for a young dog.) I was warning Alistair to make sure his training starts early and not to leave it until he has grown too big to control, as they have done with his dad. Not that Banksie is badly behaved, but that's not because he has accepted any training, just because he can't be bothered.

I use this one and have have been very happy with it. Quite a big tablet but it can be crunched and is tasteless if a bit chalky in texture. I started on 2 tablets but now find 1 is enough to keep cramp at bay

I was supposed to be going to the GP surgery this morning for a blood test but will have to cancel once they open up their phone lines. I depend on Neil to get me there and he has had a fall this morning and has quite a nasty-looking, if shallow, gash on his head, so I don't think he should be driving or even upright for the moment - he seems to be quite shaky although he did see to cleaning up his own wound and wouldn't accept any help. So he has gone to lay down for a bit and I'll phone and cancel the appointment.

Neil is considerably worse now, but it's his Crohn's disease flaring up - that was probably why he collapsed this morning. He tells me he didn't trip or slip, just knew he was falling and managed to push himself away from anything too harmful (he was in the shower-room so plenty to bash yourself on there).

I felt "odd" yesterday, and I'm still quite happy not to have food. Alistair had a really terrible "cold" and tested positive to covid. DIL couldn't stand up yesterday - her health problems, which are many and varied, were all playing up and she tested positive. Em has tested positive today and has a really bad chest (everything goes to her chest). Now this with Neil. He hasn't been tested but I wouldn't be surprised if he is positive. This time around the virus seems to be exacerbating already diagnosed, long term illnesses.

Can't understand people. Alistair works in the Royal Mail office first thing every day. He was made to feel bad because he took a day off work while he was at his worst and tells me that there are at least 4 others in the office with symptoms, some coughing and spluttering, and none wearing a mask! I imagine that that is where this manifestation of the virus came from and it has made 3 people in our family very ill - 2 of them (Neil and DIL) on the shielding list when it existed. I don't supposed, at the end of the day, that it will be anything long-term for any of us, but it still makes me angry that people can be so inconsiderate.

A friend is coming to me today for a few days and we're planing to order sushi. Oh, wish my diabetes good luck!
I found out that she gets from her city to mine by hitchhiking, not by train (and it's almost 4 hours to go through the woods there), so now I'm struggling with the desire to lecture her about safe trips :hilarious:
