"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I'm another one conflicted as to where to post.
Posting daily food and accompanying activity, fasting, temptations and tribulations is good for me, and hopefully for others, especially newbies....but not many will find us here...but here is where my support group is.

I can't understand why the powers that be don't open up a "what have you eaten today - some chat" thread.
Maybe we should just let the old one die off...
I really don't know.

Any way today I had
B: eggs, ham, cheeses nuts. 1 biscotti
L: a wonderful fennel, orange, walnut, olives and red onion salad. Later some nuts and cheeses stolen from breakfast
D: meatballs in lemon leaves, salmon and avocado salad. Pistachio ice cream. 2 large glasses wine

Bg has been nigh on perfect, even after the ice cream. But I'm hungry!! Portions are quite small
Interesting 're the small portions I've noticed that I can handle some more carby stuff now from a bg perspective provided its a small amount. However issue is keeping it small as those foods seem to trigger so many 'hunger' and want more of them feelings! For me luckily I can keep to small amounts of non nutritive sweetener stuff but I find it much harder with the real carbs so mainly stay away when I can. I see it as a bit of a dangerous drug.
Food is a complex thing for most of us and so wrapped up with our emotions, circumstances and likes\dislikes. Hence why we keep falling foul of the main thread guidelines because for most of us life doesn't always go the way we'd like it to or how we'd planned it to go!

Pentecost and Whitsun are both the same event but one is celebrated by the church and congregation and the other is more of a public event. It still isn't a public holiday though. Just as well - we already have May day, which should be May 1st but this year it was confused, some taking it on the last weekend in April and others taking the first weekend in May. I think I heard someone saying there is another one at the end of May as well.

Just back from my "Counterweight" supposed class. There were 3 staff and 2 weight losers. The other one was a man who simply couldn't stop talking and complaining that he couldn't lose weight because 1 he's diabetic, 2 everything he likes to eat is bad for him, 3 he hates everything that's good for him, 4 he doesn't drink alcohol but does drink Coke and 5 he can't stop smoking because that's the only thing that stops him putting on more weight. He spent half an hour non-stop on this. Then the class was over and we both came away. :banghead:
I felt for this man. There was so much I could have said to him, given the chance but he hardly stopped to catch breath. He wasn't in a listening mood. I knew just how frustrated he felt. It seems so unfair to have to keep denying yourself the things you want but when those things you want are doing you harm, I can't see any other way forward. The staff there didn't know how to help him. They tried to talk about small changes, but he just waved those aside as not possible. Poor man.

Hi all, I haven't really been low carbing hence not posting, but am sticking around on this thread because I intend to get back to it, even if it's on and off.

I think I will stop posting on the other thread too, it was just becoming a task to copy and paste my day's food on there. I think it works really well as a reference for people new to low carbing, to see a general "What a person who is low carbing eats in a day" clearly but it is a very well established thread so plenty of ideas there for anyone new, and I feel a bit repetitive because I do often like to eat the same things for days or even weeks.

Without the context and cameraderie I wouldn't want to keep posting. Hopefully anyone new visiting the other thread will see the link and hop over here if they want to chat with their posts.

Hi All
First belated birthday wishes @sueh21 sounded like a perfect day. @shelley thanks for the advice re transferring pics. Thats a lovely photo of you on the Black Sabbath bridge in the sunshine. @Annb sorry the stevia in the Twinings water bottle flavours don’t work for you. @MrsA2 the water bottle tea bags are fabric rather than paper so can stay in the bottle of water for a few days which does make it more economical. I do use peppermint tea bags for ahot drink sonce I got a divorce from coffee.
Yesterday usual brekkie of slice LC toast, cooled with good butter, copious tea.
Lunch was two egg mayo piled on Butterhead leaves on a slice of LC bread.
After lunch treat has now become mug of Tea & Biscuit tea which scratches the treat itch lol.
Supper was chilli & tomato sauce mini meatballs with 2oz spaghetti.
Talking of being able to have small quantities of carby food I have this small amount of spaghetti sometimes. Never found an alternative I liked defo not courgetti.
Today same usual brekkie.
Lunch was Prawn Cocktail with leaves. Forgot about treat tea today.
Supper will be Fish Finger Firsday two days early for operational reasons.
@DJC3 I hope you don’t get that awful neck strain again from tapping.

I dread to think just how many repetitions of meals I've posted over the years! You're quite right there are loads there to browse from for new joiners and it is difficult to not be repetitive when you have safe, well liked, low carb meals.
Hope you manage to get back to low carbing and really pleased you're reading posts and sticking around.

Interesting about the fabric cold water tea bags. Pleased photo info useful.

I've felt hungry today not sure why but may be that I've been mainly at home today doing boring jobs. Plus it's been a bit dull weather and a poor heavy rain forecast for tomorrow. Son has his next difficult dentist appointment on Thursday which I always dread but on the plus side Cooper our poodle grandog is coming to stay for the bank holiday weekend so hopefully will distract me. Photo is him attending a family party recently. He's a very welcome guest at anytime.

Today's food
Breakfast hm kefir then bacon egg and mushrooms
Lunch lc seeded crackers with cheese and kimchi followed by a few strawberries and hm yoghurt. Then opened some 90% chocolate and had four squares - not planned but enjoyed. I tend to get tempted by offers on the Lindt but know I should stick to the more expensive 100% Montezuma s as I enjoy it but never overeat it!
Dinner slow cooked beef with asparagus followed by LC lemon and blueberry cake.

He's always welcome if he ever wants to attend a party in the Netherlands, we'll just throw him one!

Exciting day at work, the crane came to put the mast back on the ship.
I couldn't choose between the pictures so you'll get them all, it's General Chat after all. :hilarious:

My skipper and I had to turn the mast manually once it hung above the ship, it hung backwards. Then manoeuver the bottom of the mast in between the 'mast cheeks' (the black thing in the 3rd pic.) while instructing the crane driver to go a millimeter lower, higher, left, right, front, back. Pretty scary with that enormous steel pipe hanging above your head. But it worked! :joyful:

If you listen very closely, you can hear fittingly dramatic music: Inside, one of the steel workers played the complete Atom Heart Mother, which I hadn't heard in decades, and which went amazingly well with the excitement of a flying mast!

Banksie is in trouble again. He managed to escape from the garden today and, being his usual friendly self, he ran towards a jogger on the road. The jogger panicked, fell over and grazed his back on the gravel. Banksie kissed him as he lay there - as he did with Alistair a few days ago. The man called the police and said he had been attacked by this big dog. The police called Alistair, who had to go home from work to deal with it. The jogger said he didn't want to prosecute (in which case, why did he call the police?) Alistair has to go around the fence to see if he can find how the dog got out. It could be that someone had gone into the garden and left the gate open. When Alistair got there the dog was sitting outside the gate, waiting to be let back in.

I can appreciate that a big dog, bounding towards you, may be a bit disconcerting but, unlike many of the collies around here, there is no aggression in him. He even used to pick the hens up and carry them in his mouth back to their henhouse, where he would deposit them gently at the entrance. Due to the bird flu outbreak the hens had to be put down, so he only has other dogs to play with now.

Today food was
B: a small bit of chocolate cake and the filling of a chocolate pie. It's my birthday and the pastries and cakes and tarts on display in the hotel have been tempting me every day, so this was a planned "treat" which I then followed up with eggs, ham, yoghurts , seeds and 2 strawberries. Bg
went to 10.5 but not for long

L: swordfish in a tomato, olive and caper sauce. Glass of wine. Birthday treat of gelato all to myself (I usually just have a taste of hubby's). Surprisingly no raise of bg at all. Indeed an hour later I was down in the 4s.

A swim in the pool, glorious. An aperol spritz.

D: very late at 8:30, shared antipasti, then a fennel and orange salad which was a disappointment after yesterday's splendid one. This was too much orange, too little fennel and anchovies instead of walnuts . White wine, but only one.

Happy Birthday @MrsA2 sounds like a lovely day.

Mine also intermittently gives a warning sound, something like "ploing ploing". It can be gone for weeks, it can ploing just once, or it can keep ploinging for ten minutes sometimes.
But not even a light to go with it to indicate what it wants to tell me so I've been ignoring this behaviour for years. Apparently it's just part of the ever evolving personality of my now elderly car.

It does. I all started in december when my car suddenly stopped working. Brought it to the mechanics who found out the small holes to let out water in the space under the window wipers were clogged, and the space was filled with water, very close to electrical stuff. They cleaned it but the car didn't work. It was the end of the day, so my car spent the night in their heated workplace, and the next day it worked again, more or less!

A few weeks later it had issues again, so I checked and cleaned every fuse I could find, and it worked again!
Another week later it would start sometimes, and sometimes not, keeping planning interesting. Thank heavens for friendly neighbours who often don't need their car!
At some point I found out the trick is in the ceiling light: car starts if light is on but not if light is off. Occasionally the light won't go on, but usually the trick is to turn the whole system off and back on by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds.
All fine with me, I can live with that, let's hope the mechanics are of the same opinion...

Evening @MrsA2 and @Antje77.

Every once in a while, our car plays us a ditty when we turn on the ignition. No idea what the car wants to tell us. There was no mention in the accompanying paperwork.

Incidently, my hearng aids do that too, but at least I recognise the tune (opening bars of Beethoven's fifth symphony) even if I haven't the slightest idea what it's meant to indicate.

Evening @jpscloud and @shelley262

I too tend to rotate the same tried and tested, diabetic-friendly meals quite a bit. Although my pool of recipes changes through the year as and when new ingredients come into season, there is quite a lot of repetition.

Happy Birthday to you.

Happy birthday @MrsA2 sounds like a lovely day and no spike from the gelato, jealous here:) and the mast raising @Antje77 really interesting, glad it went well.
So glad to get back to “normal” diet yesterday. Definitely felt sluggish from the carb creep over the weekend. Went to Fitsteps as well so was very good.
B Yog,raspberries,seeds
L Smoked salmon,scrambled egg,salad
D Bolognese with shredded cabbage

Good morning all. Rain is easing off so I'm going over to Sleaford to get some very low carb sausages. The butcher there invented them when he went to Slimming World and they are really nice and I am a great fan of sausages. @ANTJE, the putting-back of the mast must have been a bit scary as well as exciting. Belated Happy Birthday @MrsA2. Hope the rain doesn't spoil everyone's day. :)
