What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@DJC3 - that is EXACTLY how I feel. I remember when I started low carbing to come off of insulin, it was so easy compared to now and the last time I did a long fast the effects lasted for a couple of weeks - this time it was just a couple of days.

@zauberflote - the magic ingredient (for Millie) is her Yumove tablets. About three years ago her arthritis was so bad - she wimpered just standing still with it - we had pretty much decided to have her euthanized. Someone recommended we try Yumove and now she doesn't moan or groan with her painful joints at all. They do make a human version but they didn't agree with my tummy. This picture is of Millie this morning. It wasn't supposed to be a swim - just a nice walk in some woods - but she couldn't resist this stagnant pond.

 
Breakfast: nothing
Lunch: frittata and coffee in pretty little garden outside a nice little cafe
Dinner: baked salmon on a bed of broccoli, tomatoes from home and some lemon and chilli cauliflower rice

The man who owns this 'cottage' has had a cancellation for next week so offered it to us at a reduced rate - so we will be staying on until Tuesday. Mr C is off to see his children and grandchildren from tomorrow coming back on Saturday so now we don't have to rush around leaving immediately he gets back AND we only have to pay half the daily rate for each extra day. Bargain!!
 

It's just me not wanting to give up carbohydiferous foods completely. I know I have to but I resent my body for doing this to me. I'm sure I'm not the only one but I'm old enough to know better! But, to me, it feels all wrong not to have some kind of carb with my food. Silly, silly me. Just need to stir myself and make chaffles or somesuch.

Hurrah, my packs of Atkins low carb crackers just arrived in the post. That'll save me having to stir myself to make something. Shan't need anything with tonight's chicken wings though.

Just realised that my right hand thinks faster than my left when I'm keying things in. I keep mistyping words by putting right hand letters in before the left hand ones when they should be the other way round. Then I have to go back and correct things, if I notice them in time.
 
@DCUKMod congrats on resisting the <drool> sourdough! Storebought or bakery goods, no matter how "actual real ingredients" they are, are what I can do without. It's when I have my own hand and spoon in the flour canister that things are highly temptational....
@Chook what a happy dog! I looked up Yumove-- same as the people version! One of my cats ate himself into morbid obesity by visiting the outdoors food bars in two neighborhoods that we lived in, for about 8 years. That gave him some very painful arthritis. He takes meloxicam, which is somewhat helpful. He's lost weight drastically in the past 4.5 months because we moved to a house with a fenced back yard-- and both kitties are too old to climb it, yayy! And wow another week of vacation, bargain basement price!
@Annb when you say "carbs with your food" do you mean specifically flour/grains-type carbs? Once I discovered flax meal, I've never looked back. Its carbs are 75% fiber, so per 2 tbsp (sorry don't know weights) there is only 1g carb. I have a couple of similar-to-each-other recipes to make muffins, pancakes, and a quick bread. The bread is a kitchen-sink variety-- flax, chia, almond meal, oat fiber, oil, eggs, liquid, flavorings, bake. The other batters can be easily monkeyed with, too. I also rely on avocado and pecans for low carb fatty satisfying meals. I am somewhat vegetarian-- haven't eaten mammal meat in 45 years, so don't need to start now! I'm also "whole foods" in the sense that I don't like multi-syllabic chemical ingredients, so I've trapped myself into a very simple menu!
Back to topic!
Bfast: made the night before, because leaving the house at 0700 begs for a pre-made food box: pecan guacamole (don't ask. It was edible but should have had a little lemon juice for the sitting overnight part), 2 boiled eggs, 2 Lindt 90% from raiding DIL's supply, and there are flax crisps in the microwave which will happen sooner or later around the baby's schedule.
In betweens-- olives? Pecans? Peanut butter? Cheese? All of the above?
Supper definitely will have spinach/hm dressing, and flax crisps/dilute soymilk. There is half a tin of sardines that should maybe go with the spinach. And if I survive my baby-day, will be making MrZF cheese and tomato sandwiches with that yummy Cabot cheddar, so there will be some of that!
 
Brunch - 2 boiled eggs mashed up in a cup with butter. Cup of earl grey with double cream.

Dinner - Tuna, egg, cheese & onion bake. SF jelly and double cream.

@Chook the dog has enjoyed its holidays - it looks as happy as larry - not a care just fun, fun, fun

@Annb I too hate the big D at times and often think just one week of eating what I want would be fab or even just one day, eh

@zauberflote please share your receipe for the low carb pancakes - pancakes again with warm melted butter sound delicious

Rain has been torrential here most of the day even knocked the Sky Tv off for a while - Ooh yucky - me no likey

Step count tipped over 5000 today! Getting there gradually
Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Late morning: black coffee and raspberry phd bar
Late Lunch: cheesy scrambled egg followed by Greek yoghurt, flavoured with coffee and LC chocolate granola.
Dinner: Spanish chicken with mixed vegetables followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola

@Chook enjoy your extended hols sounds wonderful let’s hope weather picks up again it’s been dismal here today.
@DJC3 can see what you and @Chook and others mean about the fact that sometimes the same methods that worked before so well don’t always next time round and despite tightening what you’re doing it’s an ongoing battle it’s probably called getting older but remember that we are all in a so much better position and health than if we’d continued on the path we were on. I’m convinced I’d be on insulin by now as I was in a bad way on diagnosis with my hbaca1 of 97 five years ago.
Exercises for breakfast!
Lunch toasted chaffle with one slice of bacon and egg followed by coffee and one square of 100% choc
Mid pm weather a bit hunger making - cold and wet - so gave in to afternoon tea - cup of tea with a DGG choc orange brownie warmed from freezer and served with Greek yoghurt
Dinner Cajun chicken with salads especially loving my mix of tomatoes from garden with basil I grew from seed the Black Russian ones are a fave. Drink dry white with soda water pudding DGF raspberry bakewell ( my last one - they will be missed as not being baked by DGF anymore!) with a few garden berries and yoghurt.
 
Went a bit off course this afternoon - Em came in on her way home from school and asked if we could make some cupcakes to take home with her. We made double chocolate ones. When they were done Em asked if she could just try one and then cut it in half and gave one half to me! I really didn't want it, but what could I say when she was so keen to share? It was lovely. Haven't checked BG - probably not worth it, I know what the effect will be.

Back on track now - she's gone home and I've put my chicken wings in the oven.

Lunch of fried mince, eggs, onions and grated cheese.
Dinner of beef short ribs - spotted them at the butcher’s yesterday. Delicious. Have missed home cooked meat. Dessert of whipped double cream.

@shelley262 thanks for the reality check - you are absolutely right, however hard it sometimes seems, we are so much healthier than we would have been if we’d carried on as we were. Those tomatoes are fabulous.
@Goonergal I bet it’s good to be home again, I love eating out but then I crave home cooking.
@Chook Millie looks so happy in the stinky pond water, great news about the holiday cottage too.
@zauberflote I know exactly what you mean about feeling more tired but less awful. Exercise is so good for that ( so why do I always have to push myself to do it? Sigh)
Today BGs rose during the day more than I’d like, I think like you @Chook the fasting effect isn’t so long lasting this time.

Lunch was more of that fragrant and delicious berebere spiced chicken soup. Then a DGF choc/ raspberry brownie and cream

Today was chicken in mustard and a little honey, also prawn cocktail for lunch.

Mr B went out for coffee today to one of the artisan coffee places round here (I was chained to the desk), and he brought me back a little prezzie, bless him.

BUT it was lovely and minty. Quite as nice as the Lindt mint choc bar (but twice the price per gram).
So I am thinking that going to a coffee shop for a herb tea is so mind bogglingly boringly dull that my brain wants to dribble out of my ears. However, going to a coffee shop and having a herb tea and one of these mini bars (zero bg impact. Literally zero!) would elevate the experience back to something worth doing.
 
Skipped breakfast in the basis we'd treat ourselves to lunch out as we were heading for a mooch around a town new to us.
But when we got there loads of nasty looking pubs and cafes that only did carbs, sandwiches, cake, cream teas etc. Then it started to rain.
Finally found a cafe doing homemade quiche, broccoli and blue cheese which was delish! Hubby had cheese toasties with homemade chutney. Very nice.
D was assorted local cheeses from specialist cheese shop with homegrown tomatoes and cucumber. Probably too much cheese as still feeling very full 3 hours later
 
Not a perfect day. I am finding it far harder to kick carbs this time.

Lunch was carrot sticks and hummus. Yes, there are carbs but less than the bread that was calling me.

Dinner lovely roast chicken with some veg.
Still snacked more than I should.

It's back to work tomorrow so routine back in place again soon.

@DJC3 I fell in love with barre almost immediately, and was "seeing results" after just a few weeks. It was all about something I *could* do with enough work, not something I will never again do like ballet or real aerobic exercise. If you love boot camp, or could learn to love it, you might become enamored of it? It sounds like your instructor can keep you rolling in a friendly fashion! Or, you know, maybe it's that I find a "performing artist kindred spirit" in my teacher. That's a fluke.
 
Good morning all!!

Its dull, damp and quite cool here today. Mr C has gone to Kent to visit his family, so its just me and the dogs here. Its rather nice to have a few days without food temptation. My plan is to have three OMAD days while he's away. Funny, I'm more nervous about OMAD than I was about my recent fast.

So....
Black decaff coffee or water throughout the day
Dinner: salmon, broccoli, Black Russian cherry tomatoes from home and Bare Naked spaghetti cooked in garlic, olive oil and lemon juice
 
My omelette skills are progressing.

This morning has been a 4 egg ham and cheese (the eggs were the size of marbles, so it was actually a lot smaller than it sounds).
Worked well, including the bits of grated cheese that fell onto the cast iron pan, and went all crispy golden brown, and were scattered on the top for a crunchy topping.

May never need to eat again.

Not sure what I'll get to eat today. Boiler replacement underway - kitchen completely commandeered by the engineer; bed covered in stuff from the kitchen cupboards and living area full of stuff from the cupboard that houses the water, which is switched off! Didn't get a chance for breakfast, so there might be takeaway involved if I can't wait until dinner.

Just teaolat with cream and water so far.
 

For me, needing to be gluten-free helps, but how about for another time, just cutting a sliver off your half, saying you're saving yourself for your dinner (or whatever) and rewarding her with the rest of "yours" for being generous?
