I don't get that box when I highlight text. Maybe it's because I'm on a Macbook?Like this. Took me a long time to figure it out too. I work off an iPad so it might look a bit different on a phone/laptop/desktop.

Please add me to your Christmas present list.@Mauriac the gins look pretty Dont they? I’m experimenting so I can give some of the nicest ones for Christmas presents. Trouble is, at the rate I’m sampling them I’m not sure there will be any left!
@Annb - it's a crazy rule and I've never seen how on earth you police it. Answer? They can't. Bottom line, the issue is the increasing infections in Glasgow, Clydeside & Lanarkshire. She totally locked down Grampian for a lot less. Why the reluctance to restrict movement on a West Coast hot spot?I told Em that, one day next week (before my hospital appointment) we could have a proper afternoon tea, when she comes from school, and maybe invite Mum to come along. She was very enthusiastic and promptly included Dad, if it can be Wednesday - his day off. But Wednesday is the day that her big sister's 2 children visit their gran (DIL) and Shen (No 2 son), this gives the heavily pregnant big sister, a bit of a rest on one day a week. So Em decided that they could also be invited. Not sure how this fits in with the new restrictions though. They are all under 11, so they shouldn't count against the numbers allowed, but technically, that would make it 3 households. We might have to make it Tuesday instead, with no extra guests, other than DIL.
Had a late breakfast of the remaining dhal with roasted cauliflower. Not sure yet what to have later.
Spoke to the diabetes nurse and she reckons I should stop taking Metformin on Monday and not take it again until the following Monday. She wants me to phone again once I have my letter from the hospital, to discuss the instructions given and see what to recommend to the Surgical ward about insulin.
Thanks for the reassurance on bread making, I hope I'll be surprised by how easy it is too!Are low carb crisps nice? How low is low?
Hope your bread making goes well. I made it for the first time since chilhood this summer and was surprised how easy it was. The first lot I made was with a bread mix and it was incredibly easy but even making it for scratch was pretty straightforward using Felicity Cloake's recipe on the Guardian website.
Possibly because I went through the App. There it is now
It says not suitable for home freezing but I did and it was fine.View attachment 43918View attachment 43919
They look delicious and very pretty colours.I meant to show you my latest gin infusion experiments - I have tasted a tiny tot of each of them so it still fits in with the thread title. They are strawberry, blackberry ( made with stewed, seived blackberries) double strength orange and raspberry. So far strawberry is my favourite surprisingly. The bits of bleached strawberry floating about are very offputting though - they look like lumps of flesh. View attachment 43910
I don't have a microwave. Do you think they would work in an oven? They look and sound absolutely yummy. Thanks for the reassurance on bread making, I hope I'll be surprised by how easy it is too!
I don't know if low carb crisps are good, it was simply the cheapest item to take my order over 15 euros!
If you want real good low carb crisps (provided you like cheese) you can easily make these
Very thinly slice or grate a hard cheese, like Gouda or cheddar.
Put on baking sheet and zap for about 3 minutes in the microwave.
They should be very crispy when cooled, not chewy. If they are chewy, zap for a bit longer.
I like to add things like paprika, chilli powder or curry powder to the cheese before zapping.

I'm working on that one.@Mauriac - I don't really eat much chocolate but my favourites are 90% Godiva and 70% Lindt - both freeze well. @zauberflote is right, they needs to be nibbled and allowed to melt on your tongue.
Yes, oven works perfect! I forgot how long they need, but that's easily found out by tryingI don't have a microwave. Do you think they would work in an oven? They look and sound absolutely yummy.
You might like to try out fat head dough, people make all sorts of things with it, including crackers. Haven't tried them myself, though.Incidentally, I saw a post from someone which mentioned making home made LC crackers but I can't find it now. Does anyone have a recipe for these please and how LC are they?
The bread craving is still strong, so I thought to visit my local bakery to see if things have changed since I last went there, years ago.I had a couple of beers, so gone is my common sense.
I wanted this, so I googled for it in the Netherlands. This mug bread wasn't available but they had a bread mix by the same brand. And other bread mixes from different brands which sounded interesting. And then it turned out you need to spend a minimum of 15 euros to order (and still pay for postage). By then I was sure I wanted bread (salivating as I type) so I just spent 20 euros on 3 different bread mixes plus a bag of low carb crisps to get to this 15 euros.
Thanks. I looked at several recipes for fat head dough but they all require a microwave. I looked on Amazon to see if there was any ready made but there wasn't. Perhaps I should just accept that bread and crackers are just things I don't eat any more - at least until I've got my BS and weight more under control. Speaking of which, I just took two 2 hour post-lunch readings and was pleasantly surprised that ,despite a 45g carb meal, I got a 6.7 and a 6.5. Then I remembered that (unusually) I'd had a large glass of wine with the meal.Yes, oven works perfect! I forgot how long they need, but that's easily found out by trying

They did have a low carb loaf left, apparently 'half the carbs of normal bread' (she couldn't find the leaflet with information on it), so baker and I had a fun time trying to work out how many carbs a slice. I was still in doubt because of not liking the low carb breads I tried a couple of years ago, and then she decided to give me the loaf for free to try
So I have just eaten a delicious slice of bread with butter and cheese and a gamble with the insulin dose. Now to wait and see what happens
Do you have a food processor? The microwaving is only to melt the ingredients a little for mixing them, but not necessary! Thanks. I looked at several recipes for fat head dough but they all require a microwave.
Yes, I do. I"ll give them a go. I'll go to Wholefoods next week and buy some almond flour and some of the flax seed flour that ZF mentioned. Perhaps I can trade in my wheat flour.Do you have a food processor? The microwaving is only to melt the ingredients a little for mixing them, but not necessary!
I was only joking and do know how much better it is to slowly melt chocolate rather than just chewing it. The bars I am buying at the moment from Waitrose are really thick and they seem a bit of a mouthful to let melt in your mouth so I really need to cut them in half. I will definitely do that next time.@Mauriac no really, you HAVE to try the choco-melt technique! I would hate all dark chocolates if I chewed a mouthful up-- it would taste like dirty sawdust and be hard to swallow besides! The melting brings out the creaminess, the inherent sweetness, and the bouquet and flavor. I know I sound like a wine snob lolol but it's how to get the biggest bang for your buck/quid (Quid, right?) and it's not cheap! I make LC cracker things but I don't think it's me you're looking for. I make flax crisps. Flax meal has, depending on who you consult, 1/5 or 1/4 of its carbs as net carbs. My 2 tbsp (sorry haven't converted to g) have 1g net carbs. Here we have to subtract fiber carbs from total carbs to get the number your labels list as "carbs". The recipe is simple-- equal parts flax and water, let sit for some minutes to soak up water, add water to make a pourable but not runny batter, spread thinly on parchment in microwave, nuke for about 1 minute per tbsp of flax, YMMV depending on your microwave. I use 6 tbsp flax, 8 tbsp water plus at least one more after sitting, and nuke for 8 minutes plus sometimes 30 sec more. They can be flavored however you like, but no fat or sweetener-- it will catastrophize itself! I use cinnamon, lots of it. View attachment 43934
It really fills a "carb hole" for me, is very good for what ails you, and my serving (the pic is after I've eaten half) has 3g carbs. Yay! PS I just read where you say you have no microwave-- this can certainly work in the oven; I've just never done it so can't advise!
