@PenguinMum - my greenhouse tomatoes are still fruiting but not as much as previously although the black Russians are doing better than the beefsteak tomatoes. My outdoor grown in tubs tomatoes (swapped as seedlings from other gardeners) look very sorry for themselves but the big surprise is the feral cherry tomato plants that grew in and amongst other veg from tomatoes that self seeded last year - they are just starting to fruit and their flavour is by far the best. Next year I will get Mr C to hack back the raspberries a bit and grow loads more mangetout, fennel and kohlrabi.
LOL
I just had a conversation with the new DN. I'd completely forgotten how different our way of dealing with our diabetes is.
Note to self: NEVER, EVER tell a DN that you have fasted for four days, regularly skip meals and snacks and avoid carbs as much as possible...
You can probably guess the way the conversation went.
Basically she can't suggest anything apart from insulin.
At my last hospital stay the dietitian wanted me to eat every 4 hours because "I have UC/CROHNS and Diabetes I said but I only eat when I am hungry why would I eat every 4 hours she said it was because of my health issues so I let it be and didn't say anything more about it she wasn't happy with me when she new I was eating protein, butter and veggies only whilst in hospital and avoided the cereal bread and sweets and margarine..... sadly this is also what is told do do for ED years ago as I suffer from an ED that is what the dietitian and phycologist recommended me to eat.
@Annb why do you think you ‘have to eat something so you can inject’ insulin?
correction doses of insulin can be taken at any time and food is not necessary.
We have had members who set their alarm at 4am to wake up, inject, then go back to sleep - in order to counteract their Dawn Phenomenon blood glucose rise, and there’s no way they were prepping a Full Fry Up at 4am!
Also, if your nurse knows you are on insulin, then she should NOT be discouraging you from testing, and she should be challenged for giving out such misinformation.
Actually - it's news to me that I can take insulin without food. That's not what I was told. That's not quite true, one nurse did suggest taking a small dose in the evening if BG is running too high. She seems to have moved on. But I didn't know how much was safe to take so I never did. Subsequent nurses have not been keen on the idea. But it seems, when my BG is high, 10 units of Fiasp isn't enough. I suppose I'll just have to edge it up bit by bit and see what happens. But it seems that it is not only here that this attitude occurs - other places in Scotland seem to be similar.

The top rump steak was very good. I'll get that again. That and about a third of a cucumber, cut in half lengthwise and grilled made a very good meal.
Just heard that granddaughter has been flown away this evening to Aberdeen, things not going well and WI hospital came to the (fairly obvious) conclusion that they couldn't deal with it. She will probably have a C section tomorrow morning. Apparently the baby is going to be quite small - not quite 34 weeks after all, so they may be in Aberdeen for a while. Much better for her to be there, though. Her 2 other children are now living with their granny (DIL) for the duration - that means my son has to get Em to school here and then take the two grandchildren to school in Stornoway before going to work. DIL still waiting for an appointment from Raigmore and if she gets her appointment fairly soon, he'll be looking after them all, going to work AND running the laundry. He's heroic! Neil and I will have to try to pitch in and help. This has all come too early - he had booked his leave for 21/2 weeks time, thinking that's when everything would be going on.
i had no idea that it was possible to cook cucumber! Does it taste any different from raw cucumber (apart from being hot, of course).
