What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Nursing a nasty cold/throat.
Woke early and, unusually, had breakfast of ff greek with a pear and 6 raspberries and seeds before early yoga (needed the fibre).
The whole pear raised me from 6 to 9, not as bad as I expected amd maybe means I can have the occasional half .

12ish 2 hard boiled eggs with 1 small avocado. Found I was out of mayo so had some Thousand Island dressing instead. Bg was surprisingly OK.

Failed in the afternoon though. Took the biscuits I'd made to a village event. I got cold and tired and ended up eating 2, and 2 pieces cake. Bg up up 13. It's definitely the traditional sugar and flour bakes that spike me.
I did try 1 bite of a gluten free cake bought for a friend. Omg it was so sweet and overly processed. Even I didn't go back for a second bite.

D: delivery curry. Our favourite is South Indian so I have a dry lamb dish and just a mouthful of the boys choices.
Was tasty and bg had been OK, but tummy's not too happy.
Think all these experiments with the Libre on are mounting up. I'm almost looking forward to getting back to full low carb eating!!!
1 Scotch for medicinal purposes

Have a wonderful time! I'm sure you will.

@MrsA2, I hope you recover soon. When I get a cold these days, it seems 100 times worse than in the past. @Annb, the mystery of your BGs continues, but in a good way now. Long may it continue.

Friday 24 March bed 6.4 FBG 6.7 - 1/2 day Friday! 1 week to Easter holidays!

B. TAG and a bit crustless quiche.

L. A SRSLY sandwich with roast pork & coleslaw.

D. Sweet & sour chicken (made with SRSLY sweet chilli sauce) and cauliflower rice. CC little chocolate pot.

Today, Saturday, 25 March - bed 6.6 FBG 6.5. Heading out for dinner for my son's birthday tomorrow. Usual jujitsu first this morning, though.

B. TAG and a bit crustless quiche

L. SRSLY sandwich with roast beef and mustard.

D. Out - scallops done in garlic & chilli to start. 9 oz rib eye with rocket, Portobello mushroom, tomato, and spinach (pepper sauce). 2 glasses of sauvion blanc and a cafe royal. The thing I love about eating in our local Argentinian steakhouse is, apart from really good food, my BGs always fall. There is nothing in their food that spikes me.

Breakfast: bacon and eggs. Took 10 units Humalog before it. BG was at 5.1 and after it was 4.6. Seems, day by day to be reducing the need for insulin with protein meal.

2nd meal: will be some more of the N African style stew.I put so many vegetables in with the mince that there is a huge amount to use up. I'll take enough out for today and put the rest into smallish portions in the freezer, if I can find space for the little boxes.

Hi All
Can’t remember if I posted for Friday but our supper was skinless & boneless smoked haddock from the supermarket (couldn’t get to my fish man) which I livened up from memory of an old Delia recipe. I. Fried a very finely chopped shallot in butter then put the fish in and added 150 ml double cream and a big handful of chopped parsley and dried Tarragon and black pepper. A few mins later had some very tasty and comforting fish with green veg, Mr PM had mash.
Saturday was usual brekkie of slice LC toast and copious tea.
Lunch was a few prawns and cold cooked mussels from the supermarket (pointless wouldn’t bother again) and a small avocado. Supper was Indian t/a Tandoori King Prawns and cauli bhajee.
today same brekkie. Mr PM cooked up a big cooked brekkie for himself and delivered me two sausages and two fried eggs for “lunch”. Supper will be Thai chicken stirfry from the farm shop butcher with finely sliced red pepper and a handful of noodles, mostly for Mr PM.

10 units was clearly too much before bacon and egg. BG keeps dropping below alarm level on the Libre. Not sure how low to go before 2nd meal. Possibly best to have it early and give myself time to have something else, if I overdo the insulin, or take a correction dose if I underdo it. I really could do with someone overseeing what I am doing here, but that's not going to happen so it's just going to be trial and error.

I asked Neil to buy me some mussels from the supermarket some time ago but to me they were inedible and they ended up in the bin. Although, it must be said, that a week or so later I bought fresh mussels from a fishmonger and all but 5 out of a kilo, were also inedible - shells wouldn't open so they also went into the bin. Much as I like them, I've given up on mussels.

Didn't manage to post yesterday so two days here :
Saturday
10ish a couple of eggs scrambled in butter served on one slice of LC toast
1.30 a few bits of cheese with sauerkraut followed by kefir with some rhubarb and Apple peel
5ish h m chicken curry and LC roti followed by LC Blondie
today Sunday
10ish spoon of yoghurt and kefir
1.30 fried a mushroom and two eggs in olive oil (I use the olive oil I preserve olives in which has a few extra bits of olive s in) on one slice of LC toast followed by Apple peel from one Apple and a few squares of 100% chocolate
5ish a few slices of roast beef with English asparagus and cauliflower cheese with glass of red wine followed by LC blondie.

I find it very odd that your fish is not super fresh being based in Western Isles. Do the boats not land any catch there (or had the industry just died out?)
We have 2 fishmongers "huts" where the catch is straight in, but I guess we're very lucky. One of the "Two Fat Ladies" if you remember them shopped at the closest "hut" to us.

We now have 2 fishmongers - only recently opened - one of which I bought "fresh" mussels from. Mussels are local but most of the fish/shellfish from here is shipped out to the Continent or just taken directly to the mainland. Some fairly common fish can be bought at the fish market - ling, coley, whiting and so on but only rarely skate, sometimes haddock, sometimes monkfish, never dogfish. Very occasionally mackerel. The supermarkets sell plastic packed haddock and cod as well as salmon (of course) and smoked haddock (dyed) and smoked mackerel. The fleet is nowhere near as big as it used to be - many of the owners sold their quota because they felt they couldn't have a viable business with what they could catch.

I do remember the 2 fat ladies. Used to enjoy watching their programmes and they certainly knew about food quality and preparation.

Took 15 units of Humalog before my stew - it had quite a lot of tomato in it, so I figured 15 would be about right. However, BG dropped rapidly to 5.1 and a short time ago (13/4 hours later) it has dropped again to 4.1. Just had a cup of tea with milk and hope it won't drop any further. I guess I could have gone down to 10 units. I enjoyed it so might have some more tomorrow, in which case I will only take the 10.

Edit: it dropped further - currently 3.9 but doesn't seem to be falling any further.

Definitely nasty cold/flu, but testing negative for covid.
Woke, dozed, woke dozed all morning
L: hm lc veg soup (made by my lovely son), 1 ketonut
Dozed, dozed some more
4 ish some ff greek with a teaspoon almond butter stirred through it
6 ish roast pork, cabbage, broccoli, carrot
7:30 scoop rum and raisin ice cream witha good helping double cream poured over it. So nice and cold down my throat.

Oh, I've tried a few teaspoonful of a cold remedy made by our local beekeeper. It's honey with added garlic, onions, herbs. Very pungent but soothing, and doesn't seem to budge my bg, surprisingly seeing its very very sweet

My fishman who I normally buy fresh mussels from has told me to bash them against the side of the sink as I am wash them and if they dont close then discard. I have to say this works amazingly.

Clearly can't do food without any insulin.

Em was in this morning for breakfast before school but I had run out of crumpets and, because I waasn't expecting her, I hadn't made any pancakes for her. She agreed to have bacon and egg but, in the end ate some of the bacon, dipped into the egg, which she then left. Ah well - waste not ...

It was one rasher of streaky bacon and the remains of a fried egg so I thought it couldn't need much in the way of insulin but, in fact, decided on no insulin at all. BG rose by 2 points within the hour and was still rising. It was only half a meal and I am still hungry so will have to have something else. This time, I will take insulin. Maybe take yesterday's 10 units down to 8.

2nd meal: more of the N African stew.

At least, I find, I have, unexpectedly, lost 5 lb. I wasn't looking for that, just hoping for no gain. This has to be due to the almost zero carbs. Nothing else has changed. I don't enjoy it, but it does seem to do some good.

You reminded me years ago I was in a queue at my fish man behind Antonio Carlucci, we started chatting and he said always buy the freshest fish and cook it simply, he bought salmon to make Gravadlax and Dover sole for main. I saw him again a while after and he was frail, sitting on a chair by the farm shop door. I assumed he had friends in my area. He was a lovely man.

Sunday 26 March - bed 6.2 FBG 6.4. @PenguinMum - he wasn't wrong. There's nothing to beat super fresh fish done very simply. The "hut" I was referring to that one of the Fat Ladies shopped at (she lived up the hill from us) is one of these places that you have to see what's been landed. They are very well stocked, though. Filleting is done there and then.

B. TAG and a bit crustless quiche.

L. At swimming lessons with the youngest, then shopping with son. Even on his birthday shopping is necessary! On return, a SRSLY egg and tomato sandwich.

D. Chicken breast in a whisky sauce, broccoli, carrot & turnip mash, and a GF haggis bonbon (that had a wee touch of Drambuie in it) CC little chocolate pot. Usual campari and soda.

Last week before school holidays starts tomorrow!
