@maglil55 I've been conducting my Lindt chocolate experiment:
I could only experiment with the 70% and 90%. (I ordered the 85% but it got subbed with another bar of the 90%.)
First of all, eating any chocolate before getting out of bed is pretty weird and it is actually quite a struggle to get it down. (Note to self: Must train Mr C to bring me coffee in bed.)
So, I tried two squares of the tested choc before getting out of bed but neither prevented my Dawn Phenomenon. I know that optimum for me to stop my DP is two soft boiled eggs and buttered Lidl protein roll soldiers - so I did wonder about testing with a whole bar of choc but decided with my clumsiness and ivory colour bedding that it wouldn't be such a great idea.....
Then I tested it during the day when my BG was higher than I like - but much as I love the Lindt 90% it doesn't immediately reduce my BG but, on the other hand, it doesn't raise it either. Two squares are pretty much like I've not eaten anything at all - four squares gives me a little bit of a BG rise (but not much). I did think that my BG was a bit lower than it would usually be when I tested before the next meal so there was a delayed lowering effect.
I did also try the 70% - two squares of that definitely gave me a bit of a rise and four squares gave me a very quick rise. It also tasted REALLY sweet compared to the 90%.
So, the best outcome for me was to eat two squares of 90% because a) it tastes nice and b) it does seem to reduce my BG to lower than it would have been just before the next meal.
