What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@maglil55 I've been conducting my Lindt chocolate experiment:

I could only experiment with the 70% and 90%. (I ordered the 85% but it got subbed with another bar of the 90%.)

First of all, eating any chocolate before getting out of bed is pretty weird and it is actually quite a struggle to get it down. (Note to self: Must train Mr C to bring me coffee in bed.)

So, I tried two squares of the tested choc before getting out of bed but neither prevented my Dawn Phenomenon. I know that optimum for me to stop my DP is two soft boiled eggs and buttered Lidl protein roll soldiers - so I did wonder about testing with a whole bar of choc but decided with my clumsiness and ivory colour bedding that it wouldn't be such a great idea.....

Then I tested it during the day when my BG was higher than I like - but much as I love the Lindt 90% it doesn't immediately reduce my BG but, on the other hand, it doesn't raise it either. Two squares are pretty much like I've not eaten anything at all - four squares gives me a little bit of a BG rise (but not much). I did think that my BG was a bit lower than it would usually be when I tested before the next meal so there was a delayed lowering effect.

I did also try the 70% - two squares of that definitely gave me a bit of a rise and four squares gave me a very quick rise. It also tasted REALLY sweet compared to the 90%.

So, the best outcome for me was to eat two squares of 90% because a) it tastes nice and b) it does seem to reduce my BG to lower than it would have been just before the next meal.

I was wondering how you were getting on. I have similar results - the 90% doesn't stop my dawn phenomenon, but neither does it raise my blood glucose.

Dawn phenomenon has been under control the past few days - Monday rise of 0.5 mmols from 6.3 to 6.8; yesterday up just 0.1mmol from 6.1 to 6.2 and again today an 0.1 rise from 6.2 to 6.3. Only change has been upping my exercise so am hoping that it will continue to work.

Breakfast - 2 boiled eggs, 20g cheese

Lunch - chicken with salad (baby spinach, rocket, baby plum tomatoes)

Dinner - bolognese with courgetti and grated cheese; sugar free jelly with cream

Hello
B. Raspberries and yoghurt

L. Cold pork, Stilton and a few walnuts

D. Crust less quiche with spoonful of coleslaw. Strawberries and cream with Alpro chocolate hazelnut icecream.

@Chook - maybe as you say you are getting a delay on it. I tend to eat mine during the day and it is always 2 squares Lindt 90%. The first drop is very quick as today I went from 6.4 to 5.7 within 30 mins. Another 1 hr on I dropped to 5.1 and I've been there every since (although I 'm about to make dinner so that will change). To be honest I don't think I could eat more than 2 squares.

Breakfast: berries, yoghurt & flaxseed
Lunch: low carb roll with corned beef
Dinner: tonight I tried the fathead pizza from dietdoctor.com - never thought I could eat pizza again, but this was just like the real thing. For the topping I used mushrooms, pepperoni and red pepper. Accompanied by a leafy salad and no rise in bgs!!

Lunch: Nothing or a mug of Bovril

They're lovely. Asda own brand Rhubarb & Custard Tea Bags only 74p for 20. Actually they do a really nice apple crumble one as well - and a chocolate orange one which I haven't tried yet - Mr C took them to work. :(
