What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I tend to eat a lot of cheese and find mini bel very handy for having on me when I might get stuck somewhere where low carb is difficult

How did your BG hold up lol, are peanuts good because i've read they're bad and somewhere else says they're good lol :wacky:
Suprisingly well. My fasting BG this morning was 5.1 - that was worth an evil cackle all on its own.

I find I can tolerate peanuts OK in reasonable quantities and the fats are good!

Hi All Tomorrows menu for me will be.
B 2egg omelette with 1 tomato and few mushrooms.
L 2 Rivitas with pate, cucumber / peppers / 1 plum.
D Chicken salad

Hi GeoffereTaylor Funny you have just posted about peanuts, that's what I am eating now, I can eat these too with no spikes. Like you say the fats are good.

I just ate one of them penguin cakes, after 3 weeks without choclate it was heaven lol, well u enjoyed yourself with good results :joyful:

For dinner I had 2 pieces of breaded baked chicken with boiled Spinach, Courgette, Cauliflower and mushrooms fried in garlic butter, my BG was 5.1 after it was 5.2 :wacky:
There's no real energy value in veggies. Plenty of vitamins and other good stuff, but no calories. We need calories. Your chicken contained plenty of protein and I guess there were a few carbs in the breadcrumb coating, but that's a low calorie meal (maybe 250 calories, at a guess) and the energy in it really came from the butter. Perfect example of why fats should be your new best friend.

B: very disappointing breakfast sub 30 g carbs ish, cos i ditched as much bread as poss. Not worth repeating.
L: left over chicken jalfrezi. Yum.
D: left over ham and leek in OJ. Double yum.

Sorta stuffed. Feels incredibly weird to be eating 3x a day nowadays.

@Brunneria Is there a cunning plan behind eating three times a day? Have I missed something?

Brunch: sausages, eggs, mushrooms, slice of fried bread!!
Dinner: sun-dried tomato chicken kiev, sweet potato chips, roast romanseco (lime green veg that is a cross between broccoli and cauli).
Before bed: hot vanilla milk, blueberry 'muffin' :hungry:

HbA1c tomorrow. Not feeling too confident as haven't been terribly good over the past 3 months. Will let you know!

A bit disappointed with my snack reading today, but overall I think an ok day?
FBG 5.6
B: 1 slice whole grain toast/1 sausage/ 90g papaya/coffee and cream 5.7 to 6.3 (happy)
S: 3 Nairns oatcakes / John west tuna spreadable/ 1 raw carrot 5.3 to 7.0:wideyed:
D: roasted butternut squash/roasted kale/roasted chicken/sprinkling of Parmesan cheese 5.8 to 6.1 (happy)
Perhaps I need to rethink my snack, could it be the carrot or oatcakes? I'm normally ok with oats for breakfast.. Will test another time and see

It would have been the oatcakes for me too. I tested them a while back. 1 or 2 were OK , 3 tipped me over.

3 x Optifast Shakes B L & Dinner
Steamed Veges

I could have just about cut and pasted this for the last 7 weeks and 1 day but in 6 days it will change

Yesterday
B - Half an avocado mashed onto spinach bread,
L - Fridge raiders
D - Chicken, onions and bell peppers stir fried with garlic cauli rice.
S - merlot.

For reasons I don't understand my FBG are getting progressively higher even on the days after a fasting day. Just a tiny bit higher each day but really irritating. Not sure what to do as I don't want to start back on insulin. Any ideas??

Today:
B: Half a lidl roll, toasted, with a poached egg
L: Costa decaff with cream
D: Home made low carb moussaka with cauliflower rice and a green salad

I wish I had an answer for that @Chook When I started IF I would always get FBG's in the 4's on the 2 or 3 days after a fast day. Over the last 2 weeks that hasn't happened and I've only had 3 readings of 4.something in that period.

I'm going to soldier on and see how it pans out, although weight wise I am at 160llbs which was my target.

Off to Madrid soon so IF will be forgotten again this week.

@britishpub Same here. I used to always get a bed time test of 4.0 to 4.3 on a fasting day and the following morning my FBG would be pretty much the same. I don't understand what's changed.

I can't blame you for forgetting about IF on a trip to Sunny Spain. I'm going away on holiday at the end February/ beginning of March and my intention is to avoid major carbs but to be more flexible than I am about food normally. We are renting a fully equipped house by a beach but there's a beach bar that does a good cooked brekkie and Tripadvisor for the rest.

B - smoothie - spinach, carrot, raspberries, ground flaxseed, ginger, almond milk (nutritious but it wasn't the best tasting)
L - mashed sardines with white wine vinegar, steamed leeks & green beans; macadamia nuts
D - edit: smoothie - cabbage, apple & ginger, almond milk' Greek yogurt & apple & ground almonds
