What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Have to go to town for a hospital appointment at 3.45 this afternoon and my BG was stubbornly high, so took a full dose of Humalog (60u) and had some toast with corned beef for an early breakfast, then hung around for ages, not wanting to get moving, so slumped into the chair, still in my dressing gown. Finally decided to move myself and get my shower and dressed. Weighed myself and found I've put on a few pounds. Not happy :bigtears::bigtears::bigtears:.

I am going to have some lunch before I go, taking some more Humalog. Hoping to keep some kind of control over BG but not confident. If I go with nothing, the danger is that BG will drop too low again. It'll be a long break then before breakfast tomorrow but we'll see how I go. Feeling a bit "odd" right now, worn out and fuzzy brain. Probably because I took some Co-codamol a while ago (legs really bad today). It does that sometimes; at least my chest is feeling less sore than it was earlier - that's thanks to the Co-codamol, although that's not what I take it for.

So, lunch will be some smoked salmon and a tomato and cucumber salad. Question is - how much Humalog? Have to have a think about that.

Can't help you on that one, but prepare a sandwich and put it in your pocket. If you find you're dropping more than expected, have a bite or two from it to nudge it slightly up before going too low.
Good luck!

That's allright. It was a rhetorical question anyway. But I will take you up on your advice to take a sandwich with me - just in case. I'll also check BG before leaving the house and again before going in to the hospital (have to go to the solicitor's office first, so there will be quite a gap). Don't want to be doing a finger prick test when in the hospital - gets folk all alarmed in case you are suffering a hypo.

breakfast; low carb granola, a toasted slice of carbzone bread and butter
mocha
lunch; bacon, egg, tinned tomatoes, mushrooms, butter cup
dinner; lo carb crispbread, pate, salad, raspberries and strawberries and cream. DGF orange brownie

small bag of pop corn
pistachios

I went - armed with my sandwich, but checked BG before I went - 4.2! Had a sweet from the emergency stash (Christmas leftovers). Checked again on arriving at the hospital - 6.4, so no further action needed. Then I waited, and waited, and w....after half an hour I asked a nurse to check what was happening, she smiled, disappeared and never came back. Neil arrived to collect me and I asked another nurse. The clinic was yesterday! Can't think how I got that wrong. But I did. Now I'll have to wait until May for another appointment. Just as well, I suppose. By May all the rest of the issues should be resolved (low iron, low thyroxine, surgery) and the slate should be pretty clear.

I might just have a third meal today, ie the sandwich that I didn't use at the hospital.

Oh no @Annb !
Glad to hear you at least managed your BG brilliantly.

Not much interesting to report on the food front. Tonight will be the last of the tomato soup with broad beans, hopefully with a better guess at dosing than yesterday.

I've been wanting to make chocolaty nut things again for a while, and I love them with lots of walnuts and pumpkin seeds. But both Aldi and Lidl have been out of pumpkin seeds, and everywhere else they are way too expensive.
But today at Aldi I found a bag of sunflower seeds, a whole kilo for only 2.50 euro! I expect it won't be as tasty as pumpkin seeds but not too bad either, and for that price it will taste even better! :)

I don't suppose the fact that there is a picture of birds on the package will affect the taste, the only difference is no nutritional information on the bag. :D

As usual black tea and coffee until lunchtime- about 1.30pm.
Lunch - some of my newly fermented sauerkraut made with red cabbage and beetroot fermented in salted water plus the last of my fermented peppers served with one and a half lc seeded flatbreads and hm chicken liver pate and large handful of nuts a mix of walnuts almonds and macadamia nuts followed by hm yoghurt with a few berries.
Dinner - salmon with lemon butter served with cauliflower cheese and asparagus with glass of dry white wine followed by lc lemon and blueberry blondie with a few spoons of hm yoghurt. ( I’ve currently got two hm yoghurts on the go and serve a bit of each as they have different live bacteria one which only makes yoghurt at room temperature and one that needs a higher temp that would kill the other bacteria - I’m loving my experiments and the tasty results!
Now into my regular fasting period - finishing a Black decaff coffee and later this evening will sip clove and cinnamon tea.

@Antje77

Vogelvoer - if it's good for the birds, who are we to argue! :) It gives new meaning to the expression " eat like a bird!"

I was just fascinated by the word 'voer' in relation to 'feed' for animals. It must have been 40-50 years ago that I last heard that word. Memories....

I'll be eating my nutty choc things like a bird, taking the cue from the turkeys and chickens in my garden! They'll gobble up anything good with remarkable speed. :D

"Voer" is used for all animal feed. Hondenvoer, kattenvoer, kippenvoer, konijnenvoer, I have all of it. Although I won't eat most of it, except this vogelvoer and of course the veggies eaten by both myself and the guinea pigs.

B: ff greek with nuts and 1 sq 85%
L: pub ham, eggs and salad instead of chips
Dog walk
2 bites friend's hm not low carb banana cake. Tasted very sweet to me, but hubby said it was nice
D: 2 cold sausages, bit of grated mozzarella, salad. 2 sqs 85% and 2 glasses red

I also ate half an chocolate brioche that was leftover from some visitors last weekend. I used to love them, but this tasted so synthetic and oily, not in a good way. Am sure it was the same as it always was, just my tastes changing

My starting A1c was 88 but it is now 60 @Goonergal. My bg is hopefully starting to come down. Was 6.2 before the salmon and 7 two hours later. I just have to be more vigilant where carbs are concerned. Today Ive had 2 eggs and 2 buttered Ryvitas; L 2 fried eggs, 2 sausages, bacon, mushrooms, 1 hash brown and tomatoes. Had a tin of salmon with mayo tonight plus a snack of some pork scratchings and 2 squares of 70% salted caramel chocolate. Shouldn't have had : 1 hash brown 18g carbs and tomatoes 4g. You are never too old to live and learn!

Bacon, and a two egg cheese omelette, mushrooms, two slices of low carb toast and vegimite for breakfast.
Chicken pie, lemon cordial osmolax mix for smoko.
Cottage pie with mashed pumpkin on my portion, mixed veggies, pineapple jelly for lunch.
Toasted cheese and onion sandwiches, and a small serve of lemon / lime sorbet with four lychees on it (music for the taste buds that) for supper at six.

Blue cheese on pepper crackers, watching ancient aliens still.

Late breakfast today - very slow start after Em's sleep-over and a very disturbed night. Made chaffles for me and a couple of waffles for Em plus 2 streaky rashers for both of us.

2nd meal will be salmon. It's a salmon tail that Neil got for me so I'll fry some of it and bake the rest, in some fashion. Might try the celeriac fries or I might bake the celeriac in salt - I've seen that done a couple of times on TV cooking programmes, so it might be worth having a go.

Friday bed 6.8 FBG 6.9. Snow all gone and back to wind and heavy rain. Had to son and the puppy to the Vet after school so that puppy could get his jabs. Booster in 4 weeks.

B. TAG folled by bacon, 2 fried eggs and santini tomatoes when I returned from school run.
L. After Vet and shopping - coconut milk.
D. Naughty me! Chinese nibbly stuff from M&S - 2 wonton, 1 duck spring roll, 2 mini veg spring rolls and 6 assorted dumplings. I did at least limit the damage by using Skinny Food Co. Sweet chilli sauce they were selling off in Lidl and Tamari Soy for the dumplings.

We're having Chinese again on Sunday but again I'll limit the damage by cooking it myself.

Lunch see photo home made chicken liver pate with hm fermented red cabbage and beetroot plus an artichoke heart and two cherry tomatoes served with lc seeded flat bread and handful of nuts followed by hm yoghurts with a few berries
Mid pm mint tea and two squares of 90% choc
Dinner hm chicken curry with cauliflower rice, mint and cucumber raita and lots of fresh Corriander with glass of soda water and a dash of gin followed by hm sf lemon and lime jelly cream but made with hm yoghurt rather than cream.
My yoghurt making factory is still in full production! I’ve now got three different varieties made with different live bacteria and it’s amazing the different tastes they produce.

Evening all.

@RosemaryJackson I hear you with the tomatoes. I had to give up cooked ones fairly early on. Not because they were doing terrible things to my blood glucose, but they just started tasting too sweet - bolognese sauce with courgetti and cheese was an initial low carb staple, but began to taste like dessert, so it’s years since I had anything like that.

Today was a porky day. Lunch was a bone in rib roast, which underwhelmed as I slightly over cooked it and crackling was sub-optimal. Followed up with 0% Fage and raspberries. Dinner was air fried belly pieces which did hit the spot.

Bed 8.2 (thanks to Chinese things) FBG amazingly 5.4, so not too much damage.

Only had son and grandson to take shopping today, then tackle a mountain of ironing.

B. TAG and paleo granola with raspberries and coconut milk.

L. Nothing

D. Back to cold cuts. Slice each of ham, roast beef and 2 ox tongue. 5 santini tomatoes, coleslaw, spoonful of whipped cheese, egg mayo and 3 M&S crackers.

A DGF Raspberry coconut bar with 2 sliced strawberries and a sash of cream.
