4.7 today

Happy New year

Too much food today dinner was very good and I didn't resist half a yorkshire pudding, a roast potato and a couple of pieces of roast parsnip or a large portion of tiramisu

The village is still eerily quiet, not like it's usual New Year self at all. But the whole point is for us all to make it through to celebrate next Hogmanay though, so it's not really something to complain about

Hope your day is filled with quiet satisfaction

@geefull it sounds as though your meal was a triumph and today's art certainly was. @Muddy Cyclist thank you for that link. A well spent few minutes. Today's poem from Malcolm Guite's selection is In Memorium CVI. Written in the mid nineteenth century another age of optimism on the one hand and, as the poem says, grief, feud, want, civic slander and spite. Quite contemporary in so many ways. If you don't care for the last line the three preceding lines offer New Year hope. Guite is "a character" and should be an honorary member of our scientific research project.

Despite a continuation of snacks and starters left over from NYE...
Swipey says: 4.7 for which I am grateful and indeed pleasantly surprised.

Today sees a return to proper food... Not sure what I am going to have yet... maybe a low carb Pad See Ew tonight (basically thin strips of cabbage instead of noodles, garlic, ginger, egg, tender stem broccoli with dark and light soy and honey.
 
A very cold morning in North Cumbria, probably below the local predicted value of -5.0°C .

We start the year in a real fix with no real plan to solve a multiplicity of problems.

Still not sure what is happening with the vaccination program, I hear Europe and the States not interested in the Oxford vaccination?
I have my doubts now there is enough Pfizer to do all those really vulnerable.

What kind of ineptitude has set up such a mess up with the schools and the pandemic peak to be seen yet.

I wish they would not keep saying the new variant is no more dangerous than the.last one.
A really silly point if it infects 3x the number of vulnerable people in the next peak!!!
3x will die and the hospitals won't cope.

And also we have chosen to tell all our European friends we are unfriending them.

What a good start to 2021

Its up to us to support those who we can, in whatever way we can, to fill the yawning gap of need.

I sincerely hope this post finds you well but if not my thoughts and prayers are with you. Swipey is dressed as a 4.9 for Saturday. Over dressed for my tastes but the 5.47 jewellery from Awakening.com goes well with the ensemble so we'll move on. @RFSMarch the glow from NYE is still visible here in The Brecks and that meal you plan sounds as though you will find it rater spiffing. Odd ideas day today. This thread and the what have you eaten one I use seem so much like the C of E daily worship. Confession, recital of the creed, thoughts for the world and named others, the odd hymn, the collect then a cheery dismissal. Not to mention the odd sermon from The Science or The Book of the blessed Jason Eerily similar. Go in peace to love and serve Low Carb?

A reasonable summary I would say but we both view this through non deepest Blue tinted specs. I wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence and for sustenance today's secular hymn is rather uplifting. Chin up, in your long life you have seen some dark days personally and for the wider world. It isn't just at Hogwarts where help will always be found.

Good Morning and 6 for me today.

Very cold here but dry and bright and so a long walk from home to enjoy the beauty around us and sometime for reflection. Will take along my sketch pad and do some doodling whilst we have a coffee, we always take coffee.

I am already one day behind on my art, must make more effort.

Keep warm, keep safe.
 
That looks a very wet day, you have caught an atmosphere that I have experienced on many days of walking and cycling, nice peaceful scene.

Thank you @Muddy Cyclist - not sure about the whisky choice but the effectiveness of the backwash was pure accident, not considering the colour of the paper and the crinkles made as a result of using a hair dryer (on the paper - not on me).
 
Thanks @geefull - half a Yorkshire pudding? We make ours in a large roasting tin so hope it wasn’t one like that
Smashing art from you today - I really like the detail that sits quite calmly into the foreground and of course, your background hills are always good.
 
good morning everyone from a light dusting of white beginning in the dark and dangerous north

the wonder wheel of a low carb and carefully chosen ingredients for a Full English OMAD came in at 4.8 this am

Absolutely threw it down yesterday so well done the Vienna Philharmonic - we clapped like mad for the Radetzky March - bit strange with no audience making a row.
Mrs Miggins decided that as we may be turned into walking piles of wet washing if we ventured out, that it was an ideal opportunity to pack away the Christmas decorations - so there they were, gone! That was really quick, we don’t usually keep them until Candlemas but away in the attic this early is a bit of a surprise. Mustn’t grumble.
@RFSMarch - Pad See Ew - nice - no chicken? We tend to use courgette ribbons - a tip from my daughter in law (who is Thai) - cook the veg (and chicken if using) first then remove - dump your shredded cabbage into the sauce on it’s own on a really high heat to get a bit of caramelisation into it and then put everything else back in.
Picture today - quite a wet brush on this thin yellow rice paper. Hope everyone is as well as they can be. Must be time for koffy.

 
Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and all who tip toe through the tulips, whoops we are not in spring yet, but perhaps we should spring into a more positive attitude towards this, another new year year and we are still here to see it. Another reason to be cheerful is the days are getting longer.

A wonderful 6.7 on that meter of mystery and naughtiness and that after a full on darn sarf roast with no north of Watford Yorkshire puddings followed up with fresh pineapple and cream.

Well fellow posters, painters and gamers I have little idea of what today has planned for me and me's, but that big variable time will tell. Have a great day.

No Derek, it is all due to the Brexit Bonus with which we are enjoined to associate and celebrate every success - connected or not. Naturally, if Spurs win at lunchtime Brexit and Boris will be the cause. Just who do these minnows on the Clapham Omnibus think feeds, clothes and shelters them? Monster ingratitude. (Quick rub down with the Racing Post and a mug of tea (sovereignty, obs,) for me now

They were, but at this time of year you get more money out of selling them for brass. Anyone need a four bank Imperial?

Yeah if I am in a Thai restaurant I will get it with chicken but I might give courgette strips a try tonight then ... I normally forget to take chicken out so have gotten used to it!!!
