What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning everyone from a sunny start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. A 5.6 on the meater meter of metres. No idea but probably a lack of protein - chicken salad at 1900 and no solids after that. Oh well, as long as food doesn’t contain emulsifiers (the latest bad boy/girl/they/them/squirrel) or highly processed goop we will all be OK. Bacon is not included in such lists as it stands out as not so much a super food but a cure all for all manner of ailment and bad moods. The smell of cooking bacon has been known to cure the wickedest of hangovers within half a mile, further if downwind. Must be true, I have seen it on social meedja. Don’t eat bacon in a bread bun though - you might get into arguments about buns, baps, balm cakes, cobs, stotties and then your bacon will go cold. Art bit, inking done, colour tomorrow. I think it’s Sunday today. Whatever you name your day, add a smile. Koffy, the need for koffy is strong within the force.

Em is usually very resilient and I'm sure she will bounce back from this pretty rapidly and she will bounce back stronger than she was. Hate to see her hurting but I am really angry at those parents. Not only was their comment uncalled for, it was untrue because Em is pretty bright and wouldn't hold anyone back. She comes from a well educated, hard working family, albeit a bit "alternative". What those parents' problem is, I can't think.
I suspect they don't like people who think for themselves and don't follow the herd. Individuality is anathema to them. Conformity to the norm keeps them feeling safe. Em must be challenging their ideas about how to be a human being. I do hope that Em will bounce back from this experience and not attempt to squash down her unique personality.

It is 'not enough time' day for me. I need 7 of me and times the day by 3...

I like crusty cobs myself, but not had one in years...

Looking forward to the added colour @dunelm

Here's my smile for today...

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and those who think for themselves and are not pressured to follow the norm. They add colour to life, yes I am thinking of @Annb’s young Em, but also many, many others.

Blood sugars this morning were a 5.4 .

After yesterdays motorcycle jaunt today will be donated to the garden, with maybe another ride next week. Also we might have one of Mrs J’s relatives calling in on their way back to the land of our fathers, yes Wales. They have been running in a marathon, one of the relatives has clocked up ( pun intended) well over 300 marathons. If they do call in it will be the first time we have see them in over 3 years.
Well that’s my day here in Tilehurst Towers, Mrs J has given her approval.

Now it’s time to start the day properly.

Stay safe and enjoy.

We didn't go to the fête yesterday. Instead started the pickling process for giant cornichons ( henceforth renamed gherkins) and picalilli.
Easy Piccalilli 15 min prep, 10 min cook.
That is, of course, after all the vegetables are prepared - extra 45 mins!
There is a other dove fledgling on the ground outside. This one has a fresh, slight injury to one wing. Am not sure if it can fly at all. Put it in a safe place, in the gazebo, but it has once again descended to ground level. Distracted Kiki, took her to the other end of the garden where she appears to be hunting voles.
Have far too many cucumbers. (8) Am thinking to force some on my neighbours and then dig up at least one of the plants.
No sign of the doves parents

Have your best day...

My microwave blew up spectacularly yesterday. Nothing I did wrong. It's clean, had food inside, but everything was blackened...

On to Amazon. Paid for before 1pm delivery, still cost less than any store delivery. It arrived half hour ago in an immaculate white estate car, and an oriental gentlemen brought it into my kitchen. He was struggling with the weight of it, and I had only chosen a small compact one. He looked at me doubtfully, and asked me if I was able to unpack it and lift it to my worktop. I am just shaking my head, wondering how I am going to do this. Within seconds, new microwave is on worktop, packaging is ripped up and put in blue recycle bag. And he asks me if I want the old microwave outside. I say yes thank you.
I put my hands together as if in prayer, and say Namaste, and give a little bow.
There are tears I'm my eyes. I am so grateful.
Old microwave now has a tomato plant full of tomatoes on the top of it.

You have a good day.

I was particularly kind to someone midweek while I was out, who was very distressed, and I sorted her out. And then an hour later she came looking for and found me, and thanked me so much, I had saved her day.

This oriental delivery guy went over and above for me. I am so grateful.

Kindness always gets passed on when we least expect it and when it is most needed.

Morning all from a breezy sub-optimally (IMHO) heated L.A.. Still a shorts and no socks event though. What Ostrich steak did to my system will remain a mystery as I'm not testing just now and no bloods have been taken. I do have no urge to bury my head in the sand - take that as a veiled reference to events of 7 years ago or not. Enjoy your time with your relative and in the garden @alf_Josiah. @dunelm thanks for sharing the latest art. Goop? Gwyneth says hi and surely a savvy man from the D and D eschews such fripperies? Never mind the names for the bread, bacon is now off my to eat list. I never liked even the smell of smoked bacon anyhow. @Krystyna23040 enjoy the walk - sausgae roll and doggy ice cream? @Lamont D ordinarily I'd agree no one likes a bully but Trump, Orban, Modhi, Edogan, Asad, Bojo and others would make us seem liars - for now. @Annb lots of TLC for Em. @gennepher obvious hug for the demise of the microwave but huge winner for the tale of the new one. Thanks for the creative. Enjoy your day ever mindful of the needs and feelings of others. Some conventions are important - no?

Hug for microwave having a melt down tantrum but a clear winner for that smashing delivery bloke and your helping hands for a distressed person. Love the roses - what a wonderful world Louis Armstrong.

Smoked bacon - yuk - smoked anything apart from kippers are not my cup of tea. Forgot about crazy Gwyneth, she stole the recipes from Swarfega - I read it on social meedja.

Bacon, gammon, grilled with a couple of fried eggs! Mushrooms (not magic ones!) Onions and of course a tomato fried down to a relatively mushy state is sooooooooooo brilliant.
And for some reason, don't even go anywhere near whatever form or type of bread that has always been in an option.
I was brought up (dragged up) having a slice of one of the reasons why there is a health problem.
Wheat is in Bold letters on every item it is contained in. Which when you think of it, something that is 100% flour, has a government warning, as does (add something you are allergic/intolerant to)!
A chip buttie was my luxury! And of course it was until, I got the gypsys warning to have a better intake.
A chip buttie on brown or seeded or wholemeal just doesn't fly with my taste buds!
Its not right!
And of course, once I found out after a long complicated battle with my food diary, I decided to revel in why wheat or other grains were in BOLD!
The obvious solution was gluten, but I'm not gluten intolerant, I'm a lot intolerant among things but not gluten!
So, I delved deeper. And I found a paper, which gave a possible reason for it!
For the majority of us, the process in production of most breads is not conducive, but wheat has an added ingredient, which is natural since the boffins, started using hybrids of wheat venue to improve production and yield.
There are varieties of wheat and grains, that don't! But those in charge, don't care!

That is my Sunday sermon.
The reasons behind it all is interesting as well, if you are so inclined!

Be well

I still like my bacon once in a while, but never smoked! Some TV chefs say that "blue" bacon isn't bacon until it has been smoked though. I beg to differ. Once in a while I'll buy a packet of unsmoked streaky bacon and have it for breakfast until it is used up and then won't buy any more for several weeks. I used to buy quite a lot because it was Em's go to snack after school - crispy streaky bacon and a fried egg - no bread of any kind. She's left that phase behind and now has heavily buttered, toasted crumpets. She still takes sugar in her tea but has gone off iced cakes (too sweet), so her taste buds are developing as well as the rest of her.

I might change my mind when I have read my current book "Ultra Processed People" - Chris van Tulleken and ditch the bacon along with smoked fish. Who knows?

I guess you are right, Ian. We are getting used to bullying by public figures and to people just saying whatever to hurt someone else both online and in person. Sad, but there it is - for the moment. Em will recover from the hurt and still be content to be different ("adverts are all lies, Granny!"). It will do her no harm to be a bit stronger and assured in her own opinions.

When I was a little older than Em, I was forced to take a stand at school, by my father. I didn't want to, I really wanted to give in, but he wouldn't have it. So I stuck it out and realised that I could win my (Dad's) point. Would have been better if it had been my own point I was fighting for, but it did make me stronger.

The second dove fledgling has gone out into the world.
Took four cucumbers down the lane to some French neighbours. They were particularly pleased because this year their cucumber plants had failed to thrive. They gave me four shallots in exchange and showed me what to do with my nearly mature alliums to encourage larger bulbs. Everyone was happy.

Some years ago it was believed smoked fish caused high rates of stomach cancer in Japan and it was necessary to eat some fruit at the same time to counter the effect.

Lamont D's schooldays, we're like everything for me, a battle!
I was quite intelligent as a primary school child and I surpassed the expectations by absolutely smashing the 11+ exam! I might sound a bit modest but it's the truth. I was given a grammar school place.
To say, that I wasn't prepared for the hypocrisy of the school. I never fitted in at all.
Why?
Class!
It was very elitist in the schools atitude, if you contributed to the school's funds or known to be of a certain class, you were looked after.
However, if you were not in that clique, everything was completely different. It was well known. Even back then, the prefects, the elitist elite could punish you, for any or no reason at all. Bullying was rife against those not included.
I stood up for myself numerous occasions and others who were in the same position. And I found myself in trouble continually, my learning suffered including in one report, stating, that he did not wish my presence in his classroom, and would deny his attention to teach.
The difference in attitudes when in my fifth year, when comprehensive education came in!
The elite can have elitism as long as it doesn't impact on the rest/majorityof us.
Hate bullies!

You didn't go to the Simon Langton Grammar School in Canterbury, did you? Your story is much the same as mine. Smart kid - top marks in the 11+. First year at the Grammar School I was in class 1a, then 2b, then 3c, 4x and 5x. I just didn't understand what was wanted of me and, when in 4th year was told by the headmistress that I would never amount to anything. She had an MA from an Irish university and the day I gained my own MA (Open Uni as a very mature student) I told her, in my mind; she was long gone from this earth by then; "See, I did amount to something at least". How petty to have held that grudge for so long. I was told not to join the maths class in 4th year. I did gain some O levels but not in maths (obviously). There was bullying, not physical, but psychological. Dad, a postman when I went to the school, was a civil servant by the time I left and that was far beneath the notice of the big farmers, land owners, bank managers and so on who were parents of others at the school.

Edit: I blotted my copybook big time in the RI classes when I asked awkward questions or couldn't make sense of the shorter catechism, so couldn't learn it by rote. "You don't need to understand it - just learn it!" "You are a wicked girl questioning the Bible!" Never did get any answers from them. That, and Macbeth 5 years in a row are some of my abiding memories of the years 1956-61.
