Too early for you and @jjraak to be pulling crackers and reading the jokes just yet - that's Rish!'s job. Anyhow it is just a tentacle order - see how many squids first. I may not have the mussels to carry them or we may not be whelk. Mustn't make a moule of these things but they are low crab. Keep clam and carry on.

DIL was allocated a bed and she's now in the hospital waiting for the surgeon and anaesthetist to come to talk to her. If all goes well, she might be coming home by next Wednesday. That's what she's hoping because her daughter/companion has to come back that day. I'm told DIL has bought a new puppy - a cross breed - alsatian x bull dog! Can't imagine what that will be like. It will arrive on the Island on Wednesday as well, courtesy of Em's big brother who will bring it to Ullapool to be picked up by his big sister and brought home. I'm getting old. I just don't understand younger people.

My bid won the wheelchair (£99) but I suspect the seller didn't realise that we were on the Isle of Lewis because the amount he quoted for carriage was only a bit more than £16. Neil has asked if it can be sent to our local courier's warehouse in Inverness and they can bring it the rest of the way. He hasn't had an answer yet.

My friend at Lincoln had to buy four new internet phones when he got fibre, he kept is old number.

Not sure we'll bother....mmhh

Only real reason for having one was for during any power failure to call an emergency service, but I think digital makes the phone fail, if the power goes out .

We rarely use let alone answer it.

most with mobiles will have some plan with free calls, so a landline fails to compete, unless I'm missing something simple ?

Edit (Old school not buying into a mobile, a given )

The wheelchair and op news sound optimistic. The dog story less so.

Until we had all the complications involving our landline I would have said that the simple thing you were missing was the simplicity of installing/using a landline. Not so now.

We still haven't figured out how to turn off this loud voice announcing incoming phone calls, or how to make it allow our answerphone to work, or how to make it ring more than 4 times before it cuts off.

I don't find mobile phones easy to use - I have 2 and they're a waste of space as far as I'm concerned. Waste of money as well because I keep having to buy new SIM cards and put money into the phone and then I forget that I have to keep on using it or it will be deregistered yet again. I think I've lost about £40-£50 that way. Trouble is, I can't see the instructions - even online they are so small and feint that I can't read them - and I can't hear or understand instructions coming over the phone. It's all a bit of a nightmare especially as the main reason for having a phone is for emergencies, particularly in power cuts. But now, of course, that won't work either.

Of course, being old fashioned myself, like the technolgy I am comfortable with, I feel as though I, and others like me, are being excluded from the benefits, such as they are, of modern society. How long before e-mail is considered old fashioned and obsolete? Then I will truly be excluded.

Raab explaining everything away as tho the decision making wasn't the gov fault. Following science.
I know when they are circumspect with their evidence they can't remember even tho it's in front of them or they begin to speak.
Everything is fine.
Nothing to see here!

Wednesday should be called obtuseday. What with the pm not actually answering any questions at all!

Thank you @ianpspurs and yes, it does seem that the medical system in France is ahead of the NHS, for my parents at least. Their doctor still does rounds so will come to the house. Procedures that they have needed are dealt with swiftly with little waiting times (for now).

I can sea what you did there.

Operation - tick. Wheelchair - tick. Dog - oh dear. According to the PDSA, having a dog can be very Expensive and some say that they have a higher carbon footprint than a car - no idea.

Hope your prescriptions were all present and correct @dunelm
A lot of impressive detailed work in this art bit.

For anyone who liked John Crace yesterday here's a snippet from today:
Jimmy Dimly became animated. He can’t resist a fight. But luckily for him the potty-mouthed homunculus who regularly takes control of Jimmy D’s brain was having a day off. Link here
Crace and Starmer very good today but one almost feels sorry for Rish! - almost @Lamont D today's PMQs compares to the time John Smith basically ended John Major's govt. Sliding doors moment? Now, can someone do the same to that manchild currently touring US courtooms?
