What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Just a quick update as, I'm struggling with a migraine.
No FBG.
It was supposed to be vampire day with the phlebotimist, for the dsn appointment in a couple of weeks.
Mrs L has a dreadful night, which means I had a bad night.
Along with the torrential rain, I couldn't risk going out even using Mrs L 's walker.
So I phoned up to cancel.
The receptionist was very good, and told me not to worry about it.
Another appointment was going to be sorted.
I asked the receptionist, if it was possible to get a home visit?
Oh yeah, of course she said, with Mrs L on the 'at risk' list, the bloods can be done at home.
Wow!
And the dsn appointment can be done at home as well.
Wow again!
Who would have thought?
I'm not averse to going the surgery, but spending cash on a taxi and the fussing and farting
about to get there with Mrs L, is something you could do without.
Gonna have a nap, Mrs L is snoring.
It's has been fun.

Best wishes to those with appointments and those doing other things, may You lot have a better day than I have had. Have a warm evening, stay warm as frost is predicted.

Just heard, #3 (our youngest) son, has come up to ours to tell us his MiL, has been taken to hospital, and needs urgent care. It never stops.
Nor does the ratbag, he has arrived to cause uproar along with the baby shark song.
There goes my nap.

Mixed bag there but to accentuate the positive the home visits are a bonus. Hug for the migraine, Mrs L sleeping badly, are those two linked?, and for #3's MIL and family

Fbg 6.8

I fell into a dead sleep after I got back from this morning.

The rain was horrendous, like the contents of a full bath tipped all over me when I was out. I had a diabetic appointment. And I was nervous because of the way the previous nurse had been a month earlier disregarding my requests for her to face me when talking which she had ignored again and again. So, my creative for today is not a picture but some words I was working on, to try and explain fuller to an appointment person who might be ignoring my lack of hearing/hearing abilities just because I can speak well.

I did complain last month.

What a difference this month!

I go to reception, the receptionist is accommodating to my deafness immediately. She is completely new. She knows S.S.E. (Sign supported English), so she could get better through to me what she was saying, because there were some complications with the appointment.

I am in shock!

I am waiting in the waiting room with several other people (they have changed the system where we wait). There is a completely different atmosphere about the place. A much nicer friendlier atmosphere, with people coming out for their patients/clients, and greeting them in a friendly talkative manner instead of the curtness that was there before. And walking with the client/patient having a conversation with them before they reached the treatment/whatever room. room. The same happened for me. We went through some security doors first on the way to her room, and I took the opportunity (for the fist time) to stop and show her the written bit I had been working on, on the back of my deafness card on my sunflower lanyard, (which is for hidden disabilities).

IMG_0360.jpeg

(A lot of work went into that with many variations, and I settled on that version).
She read it. We are still in the corridor, because I cannot talk and lipread while walking. I expanded on the "Distractions" which I explained could mean her tapping on her lips with a pen or finger, or her turning away from me, or a busy room with interruptions from others walking in and out...
She thought it explained my needs well.
And when we got to her room, we got on well, I didn't hear/work out/or understand everything she said, but it was as if she was mentally reading that card, when possibly she saw a blank look on my face, and she adjusted immediately, and rephrased etc.
For the first time ever in my life, my blood pressure was good when being taken by a nurse, 112/69.

So, I took control initially here, but did it before we got into her room.

It was a good appointment for me.

She kindly took my blood to save me making an appointment online, and going to the blood vampire lady another time, and will get back to me, by text.

A most successful morning.

She remarked I was soaked to the skin, and that I needed to get changed immediately.

I felt really ill because of the cold and wet. As soon as I got home, I changed clothes, and went to bed with an electric blanket and fell into a deep sleep. It is now 4 hours later.

Have a good day.

I intend to have a full day to myself tomorrow...

Hugs for you @Lamont D
I have had a similar day to you as regards surgery stuff, but in different ways...
Although my day went well overall, apart from the continuous bathwater soaking, the thunderstorms bestowed upon me, I too have been struggling with the blurred eyesight of the beginning of a migraine attack...
Take care.

After the horrible experience a month ago today sounds like a totally different experience as reflected in your blood pressure. The drenching and incipient migraine are downers so hug for them. One does wonder which version of the surgery experience you might have next time. Stay warm and dry.

Thank you @ianpspurs

I shall have to think positively about the next appointment, and believe.

But yes, I know what you mean...

Glad it was a good day in many ways, Gennepher and hope the good experiences will continue at your next appointment. Hug for the drenching and the migraine though. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you @Annb
If anyone who has needs, are accommodated for, it makes a positive difference to their testing/results.
It is not a hard thing for them to do...

Thank you. I'm going back to bed in a minute because I am wiped out from today. The soaking was the last straw...

I found I felt like that @gennepher

But when I looked back at my day, a major task been had completed.

I doubt you can call your day anything but miraculous.

While we can't get the NHS to be all it should be for everyone

You took it on and made it bend a bit to suit your needs
....bravo, bravo .

Hears to a continuation at all the appointments going. forward.

A peaceful rest for you tomorrow, please god.

what a difference a moan makes.

Thank you for your hopes for me.
The weather has deteriorated horribly....
It is suddenly winter blanket time and electric blanket time...
I will try not to freeze over night.
The tension of my head migraine has now moved/gone into my hands. They are very stiff and tensed up, and are both like claws...using the hand massager on one hand to try and get back to sleep. Holding a cuppa tea (from my flask) in the other hand, and dictating on here with my voice....
If I drown in my bungalow, then the rest of the UK will be swimming past my bedroom door trying to get entry somewhere...
Have you finished your Noah's Ark yet?
I just need to put a few more finishing touches to the potting shed to make sure it floats....

@gennepher has your surgery got a GP yet?
No.
Earlier this year we all got no-reply texts from this practice saying they were hopeful of a group of 3 GP's to take over this practice etc.
Then suddenly zilch.
No one wants to take over this GP Practice. It is cursed...

The main waiting room, which is usually empty, this morning had a few people in it. Unusual.
So I looked at the screen on the wall to see who is calling the patients/clients. They were silent announcements just a text of the persons name who is being called, and the name of the person who was seeing them, and which room to go to.
A lot of them were sisters or nurses who were seeing people in treatment room A B C et cetera.
There appeared to be one GP, who I am taking to be a locum, but I could be wrong, he could be trying the practice out. But there is nothing online that suggests that we have a permanent GP yet.
I was watching the receptionists on the phone, lipreading them from a distance which I can be good at, (better than trying to lipread someone next to me), and they were trying to persuade or giving people GP appointments at the hospital about 20 miles from here, which costs £45 to £55 by taxi...ONE WAY!!!
The people who are seeing the doctor were all elderly ladies on their own, barely able to walk even with the aid of a walker. One of them was staggering badly.
There was one more man who was seeing to patient/clients. I took him to be a builder initially because of his lumberjack type jacket, and his demeanour. He was a big tall guy very hairy with a beard... He had a lanyard round his neck, but I was not close enough to read the details, his name never appeared on the screen, but he came out and approached the men (one by one in turn) who were sitting on the chairs, and appeared to already know them.

Why did I observe so much? Because I was kept waiting an hour despite having a timed appointment.

So, no permanent GP yet as far as I can see...

Right, it is tomorrow now, time for me to go back to sleep. Temp is dropping like the proverbial stone. Midnight is in his electrically heated cat bed, and he is not shifting from that...

This has reminded me that I need to make an appointment with my optician as I have to get the cataract in my left eye sorted and the optician would have to refer me until I get it sorted I won’t be able to get new glasses and I am having worsening problems with my vision on the left side.

@JohnEGreen you will be amazed at how much better life is after the cataract surgery. I've had both done. It's very straightforward, and aftercare is simple. Heed what others here have said about not getting new glasses until your eyes have settled down. How wonderful to live nowadays and have these options.

Yes @JohnEGreen, cataract removal transforms your life.

In 2014, I had bilateral posterior subcapsular cataracts surgically removed at Moorfields Eye Hospital; from the dominant eye first and the remaining eye 3 months later.

In adults, cataract surgery is usually performed under a local anaesthetic, because surgeons prefer their patients to be wide awake. The cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced by an artificial lens. It takes no more than 15 minutes and is painless.

Thursday's FBG 4.7 mmol/L on waking at 6.00 am.

It is 2.30 am.
No sleep tonight.
Both hands too painful and clawed.
I am taking my Sumatriptan.
I am assuming this is still the left over of this visual migraine...

After the last try which I'll try at 5:30 am, I will go on to Nifeprodine and see if that works...

There will be no..creative today, unless I find a pre done one. Badger fox thing already done.
.....Now 3 am...

Morning all from a chilly L.A. Fbg of 5.1, after some very weird readings yesterday which may have been due to the new sensor settling as by bedtime bg was comfortably back in the 4s as it is now. The other explanation is the steroid effect as I've read that they raise bg after something like 4 hrs and with IF I often don't eat and take meds until 11.am. I may play around with that timing and see what happens to the readings. Just now, 8.46, bg is 4.4 which is normal for me. The heating just kicked in as Hive is set at 18ºC from 8 am for MIL - not October yet, meh. @gennepher hug for the pain. Y'all have your own best version of Super Salmon Salad day (with Zoe 30+ sprinkles obs).

5.4 this morning. Was absolutely starving when I got home from classes last night. Wasn't going to eat anything until Mr K asked if I would like a piece of cheese while we watched the 10pm news- I immediately said yes.

Then he asked if he could have some of my coconut flakes. I thought oh no that's just too tempting and must put them away before I start devouring them.
You can guess what happened next - although I did manage to put them back in the kitchen before I had eaten too many. So was pleased it hadn't affected fbg.

The sun was actually quite warm as we walked around the park, but I still needed the thermal base layers, warm fleece and gloves.
