What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)


You remind me so much of me in this regard. Two very different conditions, having a very similar effect on two people (as well as all the other people involved for such brief but influential moments in our days).

 
Very late posting - 5.4 this morning which I am really pleased with. Also happy that I ordered superfast broadband yesterday from a new provider because my internet speed is so rubbish and my admin is taking hours and hours to do and it is now almost impossible to work on One Drive. The only downside is that it won't start for nearly two weeks.

Husband very happy also because he ordered a sports package with it.

Enjoyed catching up with everyone's posts this evening.
 
5.0 today which was quite a surprise. Relatives over from Dublin. My auntie (2nd mum) who loves nothing more than fish and chips from Blackpools best chippy. I asked for a small fish and peas fully intending to take off the batter. The light, crispy, delicious batter that hugs the fish so perfectly. A tough call. So anyway I expected my fbs to be much higher this morning ;-) Especially as it was washed down with red wine,,, all night!!! Great night.

Auntie and cousin gone now so business as usual.

Yesterdays graph has a rise in the morning when I was frantically preparing for auntie coming (stress). And 2nd rise is the fish! Peas, nuts and wine! I got off lightly battered, just like the haddock.

I have been watching bite sized you tube vids up to now. I learn better and more quickly with visual stuff (as long as they have captions/subtitles as well) then I discovered yesterday there was another update to Android 10 for my pixel 3a before the end of this year which adds some more features for deaf people. But I wanted to find out specifics for cochlear implantees in this update (especially after the Apple debacle) so with that in mind I was exploring Android Central.

But I haven't found specifically what I want yet which is exact details of this prospective additional 10 update, and how it might affect deaf people or cochlear implantees. Or, is it not possible to find that level of detail?

I use that OneDrop app.
And I find it very useful.
It is pretty good at predicting my next few hours. And when I enter my carbs. And has helped me stabilize my blood sugars.
 

Snacking may be the culprit. If you could afford 1 sensor (14 days) at about £42 (asda last week) and your mobile is compatible you would learn so much.

The you tube guy, dottotech, that @jjraak said he peeked at from time to time explains well and so far I understand easily all he says.

I checked my phone data earlier and realised my allowance runs out at midnight tonight. So I have spare data to use up. This Pixel 3a does a lot of data saving, (something iPhone didn't do) and it keeps telling me how much data it has saved for me (I did enable some stuff when I came across things in settings).

So I am thinking I now have enough data for lots of you tube learning today. I am just working through the list of his videos (forget counting the sheep I mentioned earlier, this is more interesting).

This is going to be a nibble food day today. I do that when I am intensively learning. (I also won't be wearing my speech processor, because incoming sound disrupts my learning and understanding process, because my brain, which it didn't have for my first 60 years, is so tied up in processing sound and trying to make meaning of it, that there is little room for anything else).

Then from a diabetic point of view my food today will be nuts, a very tiny bit of chocolate, a small amount of dried fruit which I love (yes, I can eat a small amount of dried fruit without it impacting on my blood sugars), and the protein will be eggs (no meat for a day like today) - some hard boiled, and the main meal will be an egg omelette, oh and cups of tea. For some reason coffee doesn't feature on a day like today, but I can't explain why. And I can pretty much guarantee my fbs will be lower tomorrow morning.

Okay, next video is Google calendar, which I worked out myself up to now, but I am sure this guy is going to teach me extra stuff.

I do help out at a drop in centre with people with iPads, (I do know Apple stuff pretty well), and windows laptops. But I was very much lacking in knowledge when someone wanted help with an Android tablet. Well, not any more, I will be able to help them now.

So remember, in every cloud is a silver lining, or a lot of silver linings!

We are promised sleet today by the weather app, so electric blanket day for me I think as well!!!

Daughter and Granddaughter stayed over as her partner off walking in Snowdonia with our son.

I have been thinking snacking may be the reason but it I stop I suspect my weight will drop even faster, difficult one. I could probably afford to try the sensor for a short period, I may wait until after my next couple of HbA1c results, next should be due about now. But thank you for keeping us informed about the data they provide and please keep encouraging us it's very supportive.


Try and dodge the rain drops if it's wet by you, have the best day you can.

Morning...an early start for a Saturday off to visit friends to in Berkshire...coffee'd shower'd now for the hardest part...hair time will it behave or in view of the weather (rain) perhaps I should just abandon it's to it's natural state (wavy)… no I must make an effort perhaps the straightening irons will cut me a break...woke to a 6.3 yes there were carbs involved last night but I'm bound by secrecy.
 
6.1 today, no great surprise after a fairly undisciplined food day with too many snacks ( agree with you there @Debandez and @Muddy Cyclist )
Also had a terrible night’s sleep with wind and rain hammering on the walls and roof, plus 2 nightmares! First one involved me being at a party full of vampires and trying to find a way to leave
Second was that Dennis ran off chasing a car. I heard a yelp and a woman rushed into the road and came back carrying my friend’s dog. I still hadn’t found D when I woke up but friend’s dog survived.
Funny how dreams can really affect ones mood for the day.

Good morning everyone. The rain has stopped. Not sure for how long. The wind has also dropped so the sea will be a bit happier this morning - so grouchy yesterday.

The wonder wheel of just a wee drop of 12 year old Redbreast and an excellent nights sleep gave out to a 4.9 this am.

It’s not the full story and for some folks that find their fasting readings a bit odd I carried out an experiment yesterday to see what happens if I pig out a bit on carbs. I usually keep my carb intake quite low and consumed mostly at around noon (I rarely have anything before that apart from tea and koffy). Yesterday a carb laden dinner; about 35g and consumed by 2100.
As you can see from the graph, the night shift had a whale of a time shoveling the resulting sugar load around. When I got up at 0500 (where the red line is) my reading was 4.9. Liver then kicked in and went berserk, due mainly because the night shift had failed to sort it out.

OK, only once but (1) if I keep my carbs low, especially after lunch time then my nightly graph looks fairly nice and smooth and (2) taking a fasting reading (a) a good 8 hours after eating and (b) immediately upon waking may be very different from not 8 hours or perhaps more importantly delaying after waking for even just a small time when the liver may be already doing it’s thing to help you get some energy for the day.

well, it was 'dreich' yesterday when I looked out of the window first thing, then immediately after I left the house for my stint in the shop it started to rain, big heavy drops, then sleet, then snow :***: Fortunately just a few showers which did not lie for long, however, not quite what I expected from the weather forecast

Our first snow of the season and the showers dropped the temperature by about 4 degrees to just about freezing so you can bet I did the first hour in the shop wearing my big furry hat

it hasn't really warmed up much here since then and it looks quite a decent cold, light grey morning today, but the birds are fed and breakfast and good coffee are in prospect so that's a great consolation

I wonder how my brother and sister in law will fare on their relay leg 'over the top' today and round by Thurso / John o'Groats and then down the east coast of the Highlands before we see them tomorrow

Good morning folks, a 5.4 on the dice today, grocery shopping, new work boots (my existing pair though comfy have expired), then footy at fatherinlaws, Tricky trees v The sheep botherers, always a tasty spectacle. COYR.
 
Morning All. 5.5 expected better after moules sans chips sans bread. Maybe it was the half bottle of Cremant, wine defo affects my bg more than gin. Theres a message there somewhere Hug to @DJC3 for disturbed night and howling weather. Hope Cornwall is coping with the latest battering. Hugs massive to those in north affected by the crazy rainfall and flooding. Hope Saturday is kind to everyone. Stay well, stay safe.
 
@trick60 hope the footy is played in the right spirit; @dunelm interesting post, thanks; @DJC3 hug for the dream; @Muddy Cyclist good start and the family day sounds just the ticket - as no one ever says. Bright, clear day here if slightly chilly. 5.3 fbg, 7 hrs sleep and resting pulse back at 60 - so progress of sorts. Seems to be an unwinnable battle to return weight to where I like it unless/until BPH medication removed. Running an average 600 cal deficit and averaging 19.5 gms carb per day about my limit. Have a great day. Best summary of the last decade I have read comes from Isaiah 3 v 14-15.

5.2 this morning - will be higher tomorrow. Working until 6pm today then out for a meal with friends. The extra protein and eating late will affect fbs even keeping very low carb.

Yesterday I received an email cancelling a one day course in London that I was so looking forward to. I had booked the train for the day before so I could go to the new exhibition on Troy at the British Museum, then dinner and a relaxing evening and overnight stay at my favourite hotel and then a very interesting course in the Sunday.

No sooner had I cancelled my train and hotel and requested a refund for the course when I received another email. They will now run an afternoon course with the same presenters on the Saturday. So had to rebook everything. I asked Trainline if my tickets were still valid. They said they were as I hadn't sent then back and got a refund. Hopefully I won't be reporting later in November that was arrested at Kings Cross for travelling without a valid ticket.

So now - travelling to London for the Saturday afternoon course. Dinner and a relaxing stay at the lovely hotel. Then a leisurely breakfast and then the Troy exhibition at the Museum and hopefully back home early afternoon. All sorted.
