Absolutely wonderful post to read.

Brilliant. The Coffee Lady would be a good forum name for you, or many of us here.
Tonight I would like to be know as la fame de chocolat noir. 1) because it sounds so **** good, you cant beat un petit peu de francais 2) because I'm trying to put my lost weight back on! And what a way to do it. Accompanied by a glass of vin rouge!!!

I think it’s the same with all baby animals, kittens puppies and humans. They are all surprisingly exhausting.
Not sure about a power nap today - we are dog sitting my daughter’s Dane, Melody. She is a sedate lady of a certain age and Dennis probably feels like an annoying gnat to her - He is besotted with her and wants to play all the time. She indulges him at times and then I have to quickly move things out of the way - she’s so big, 11.5 stone of dog jumping about in a small room is not for the faint hearted. At the moment he is pleading with her to play with him

Great photo!!!

Morning all. 7.7 for me today. ( 8.1 yesterday). Not surprising as I'm taking antibiotics for a throat/chest infection after struggling with home remedies for a couple of weeks. Haven't posted for a while as life's challenges have continued and I didn't feel like posting my negative stuff. We have lost 2 more people in the last few weeks and mum's Alzheimer's has progressed. My heart goes out to you and your wife MC, having gone through similar with my aunty recently after her major stroke. As my mum was her next of kin and she has Alzheimer's, it was left to me to complete a DNAR form after dicussing the situation in detail with the consultant but in the end she couldn't take anything by mouth and she was taken back to her care home with palliative care where she was looked after lovingly and passed very peacefully. Sometimes nature makes the decision for you. On the hospital food front I agree it is difficult to find something suitable for a main meal especially when you are visiting every day & long term. Mum was in 2x hospitals for 10 1/2 weeks and we visited every day. At the main hospital the hot food section was in 2 parts. One consisted of pies, pasties, sausage rolls with chips and beans. The other half provided freshly cooked dishes which looked appetising but usually contained carbs such as pasta/ rice or peppers which I cannot tolerate. Occasionally their was cauliflower cheese which was not too bad. In the fridge their was a choice of wraps, sandwiches, fruit salad etc and small pots of tuna or cheese -which I sometimes ate with a small jacket potato and lashings of butter. I counteracted the food with very long walks to/ from and around the hospital. Sending best wishes to those who are doing well and hugs/ positive vibes to those who are struggling at the moment.
PS: @HarryBeau Happy to see you finally have your kittens after such a long wait.:)
Good to see you back, hugs for the challenging times you are having.

Good morning everyone from a quiet before the storm morning of exit polls in the dark and dangerous north.

The wonder wheel of pensive anticipation and potential disappointment rallied around a 4.6 this am, due mainly because the silly sod of a mince pie eating chimp was drugged with glass of scotch last night.

Our postal votes were sent in a couple of weeks ago so too late now to tactically do anything unless we nip in and out of nearby polling stations in a vain attempt to influence exit polls. We both voted Muppet because we are sure to get one in any event.

Have a great day if you can, hope that you can all get out to vote.

Note: This latest Carry On film is rubbish - even Sid James refused it:

I voted muppet too as did hubby. They could be in with a chance. I know many more who voted the same way!

A stinking 7.0 for me today. Don’t know if it’s my body attempting to fight this cold virus, lack of sleep or lack of exercise ( I’ve barely left the house this week) I haven’t got the energy or enthusiasm to do anything about it atm though. I’ll just have to trust it’ll sort itself out eventually.
Defo the virus, I've been battling high bs with mine too. Settling now thankfully. They not worry, they will come back down.

Morning all. Hugs for @OldButBold, @DJC3 @Krystyna23040 @Debandez and @Muddy Cyclist. After 43 hr fast my fbg was 4.7 this morning. I find fasting far easier than pretending to enjoy LC eating ("pure" like an on drive or leg stump yorker) but can overdo it which causes problems later (gout due to hydration issues - pee like a horse). Amazing start to the day as granddaughter slept here. Cuddles, dances watching Moana, amazement at illuminated villages, trains, skaters. fairgrounds and Christmas trees seen properly for the first time. The outside world will impinge at some point but for now a little glimpse of Isaiah 35 v10 here - tomorrow can wait. @dunelm - vote early and vote often eh, eat'n swill lives on in places I here.
Thank you for the hugs. Well done on the epic fast. Fbs reflecting it well.

What a day, I managed to get Granddaughters guitar for Christmas but after that it all went down hill.
Voting I had the choice of Conservative, Labour, Greens only three parties represented, what a state of affairs. Yes I voted for one but what a shambles.
MIL visit horrendous. Tried 3 Car Parks at hospital, each in turn said SPACES and let me in. Inside each parking area there were at least a dozen other cars all looking for the non existent spaces, chaos. I dropped off Mrs MC and parked a mile away in a non hospital car park.
Then the hospital is putting the pressure on to get MIL into a Nursing Home ASAP, I understand they need MIL's bed but all feels very cold and uneasy.
Then on driving to Shropshire for choir which we needed for a break from all the emotional stuff. BANG in a dark lane we hit a huge pothole and had a blowout. Our sporty VW Golf runs on large alloy wheels and so in a very dark wet lane I find myself risking life and limb and fighting big wheels and tire to put on the spare space saver.
Home now, missed choir, fed up.

So will I wake up tomorrow to a better world, I doubt it.

On the positive side we are home, warm, fed, Mrs MC cookes a mean omelette, so shouldn't complain we have many blessings.

@SaskiaKC so sorry thar was not a good check up. Dont worry about it because we all have this sometimes. I think you and the KC should just try snd relax and not worry about it. You are doing good.

Observations on a doctor's office visit today ...

Diabetes magazine in the waiting room contained an article about how to prevent kidney stones. Among forbidden foods were listed almonds, peanuts, and one other nut -- foods I have heard elsewhere are sources of healthful fat for us. Cheese -- especially aged cheddar -- is now good; 20-odd years ago cheese was said to be something to avoid eating if you wanted to prevent kidney stones, at least it was said by my sister who said her kidney stones might have been caused at least partly by eating too much cheese.

Doc has a new "medical assistant" -- when did "nurse" stop being a profession and title to take pride in? I have a good friend, and a cousin, who are nurses, but they are of my generation, and my two aunts who were nurses were of my mother's generation.
This new "medical assistant" had just been trained by the Medical Center on how to check blood pressure -- completely differently than I have ever had mine checked before, including at this doctor's office. The most ridiculous part was when she insisted that I have my feet flat on the step of the examination table, while ignoring my reply that my legs were not long enough for my feet to be flat. I literally had to lift my leg and SHOW her that my calf was shorter than the distance between my knee and the step. She kept parroting "No worries, no worries!" while fastening the cuff incorrectly around my arm, the machine kept recalibrating, and the Velcro kept coming loose with a sound like a ratchet slipping gears. :hilarious:

After all that I was very happy to get a 138/86 reading from the knowledgeable assistant who came in with a bulb-and-cuff monitor, and to have a good consultation with my doctor, even though there is no Magic Pill to cure one of my main complaints. Oh, well, at least we laughed about it, and I let a groaner of a pun slip through which seemed to be appreciated.

Afterwards, trying to leave, one exit was blocked by a car that had been left parked with one blinker still going, blocking one lane of traffic; when I directed my driver along the other exit, that way was blocked by two carfuls of people -- at least 5 in each car -- doing a Musical Cars run-around while blocking BOTH lanes of traffic -- and then, when my poor driver hesitated before pulling out into the main road, the driver of the pickup truck behind us had the temerity to honk at her. (I had wanted to honk at the Musical Cars teams but on second thought they might easily have taken offense and shot us!)

Glad to be home, KittenCat full of treats and sleeping it off in my lap, me enjoying peanut butter on crackers, nuts (including peanuts and almonds) and dark chocolate, with a splash of bourbon in my coffee. As one of the newer coffee "creamers" expresses it --

Fun and games at your doctor’s office today @SaskiaKC !!!

upload_2019-12-12_21-16-13.png

First the magazine with advice what to eat just about contrary to what we do do in this thread.

And then the assistant who cannot take a blood pressure. I had one of those last year who did something pretty much similar (the assistant had tried one arm, and then the other arm and I thought my arm was going to burst the way she pumped it up and it came out error each time), and by the time someone else came in to take my blood pressure, my blood pressure was sky high. I knew it wasn’t because I had taken it at home before I came out, and my blood pressure was normal. But because my blood pressure was now ‘high’ I wasn’t then allowed to leave until the someone else had taken it a few more times and it was under the danger level.

Those silly car people being inconsiderate. It is wise to just get out of that situation. Road rage is not a good thing...

I am glad you are now ensconced with KittenCat, plenty of nuts, and bourbon in coffee!!!!

(The road rage driver wouldn’t insert in the post!!!)

What a day @Muddy Cyclist
I think many hugs are needed here.
The omelette sounds very good.
Take care.

Defo the virus, I've been battling high bs with mine too. Settling now thankfully. They not worry, they will come back down.

I think you had it a lot worse than I did. Glad you’re starting to feel a bit better now and it’s good to see you have chocolate and wine. Normal service is resumed!

Hugs to you and Mrs MC, @Muddy Cyclist , and to MIL.

I am feeling battered too this evening after a doctor's appointment but it was just a minor irritation and worries compared to your experiences. When life hits us when we're already down it can feel crippling.

I'm glad you were able to get the guitar. I remember when I was given my first guitar, and second, and third. Your granddaughter is a very fortunate young lady.

Thanks @gennepher @PenguinMum @SaskiaKC and many more for your support. Reading through all the posts again my problems fall into insignificance compared to health and life problems of so many good souls on the forum. I feel I am putting my life's problems into perspective thanks to you all.

MIL! Well that's end of life stuff, upsetting but can be dealt with and is what we all face one day, Mrs Mc and I just need to handle it with dignity, love and celebrate the life MIL led.

Golf Wheel, nothing that a little expense can't sort out.

Voting, we have voted doing our best with what was on offer.

Missed grandchildrens nativity plays because of hospital visits. We have spoken to the girls, seen pictures and videos and there will be other years. They also love their Great Nan and so even though young they understand why we needed to be with her and not at their Nativity, good kids.

Missed gigs, well we do love performing but there are still another three before Christmas and I'm certain we shall make them.

Higher than usual BG readings, a small unavoidable glitch which I can get back on track once MIL is settled or is with her maker.

Christmas looming, good! Some good family time is certainly a great tonic for the soul.

There you go not so bad after all. Thank you.

My ramblings have been a tad self centred and there are an heck of a lot of posts to respond to individually and I feel I would miss someone out and so please accept my apologise for not mentioning you all, but I have read all your posts with concern, enjoyment or empathy.

Please accept hugs for all those who have been worried, distressed, harassed, feeling unwell, anxious and exhausted. Congratulations for those who have achieved great things or feel good.

Joy to each and every one of you.

Hugs to you and Mrs MC, @Muddy Cyclist , and to MIL.

Sorry you are also feeling battered it can be quite horrid.

Guitar is lovely 3/4 size nylon strung so easy on granddaughters fingers, I managed to get a classical guitar with a narrow neck like a folk acoustic which will also help when she makes the transition to steel strung guitars which have the same narrow necks. Just hope she sticks at it.

Edit.. do you still have those early guitars? I started when 16 and have all my guitars from over the years. First being a USA built Ephiphone Jumbo then a EKO 12 string which I still play. There are a few others but my current most used is a Faith Jupiter and a Gibson J200, My favourite is the Faith Jupiter model, easy action lovely sound.

I still have the classical Hofner I was given at about age 14. It was my first really good guitar.
It was preceded by a Kay, a budget acoustic instrument that my mother got with trading stamps because she rightly wanted to see if I would stick with it before she and my father bought a better one.
Both of them were preceded -- many years earlier -- by a Roy Rogers child's guitar, on which I learned to play "Love Me Tender" by watching Ricky Nelson's tribute to Elvis on TV. Hmm .. I've read that as a child Keith Richards admired Roy Rogers -- I wonder if he had a Roy Rogers guitar too! :)

As well as Fritz the Hofner I have owned 3 steel-string acoustics, a Fender, a Yamaha, and a Washburn, none of which I still have as I had to sell them at different times. Fritz has been my good friend for more than 50 years.

You are now making me think I should have bought that carton of eggs I saw at the store yesterday -- Mrs MC's omelet gave me an appetite for more than crackers with peanut butter! :D
