What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Sorry I’ve been awol again, I haven’t caught up (too many posts) but hugs to all who need or want them, high 5s and handshakes available also. (thanks @gennepher )

My fbs was 5.5 this morning, with a finger prick after I had a faulty libre sensor yesterday. It feels a bit unsettling to not have the detailed info on the sugar levels I’ve been used to, roll on 6pm tonight when I can activate my new sensor. I have been working on my beaded Christmas train the last couple of days, finally got some motivation and made some good progress. I can post some pics if your interested to see it.

good morning all :)

4.6 today

took me ages to get off to sleep last night for some reason, then I slept later than usual this morning;)

It's chucking it down outside but we need to go out and do some shopping, we need 'stuff' for the pantry. May wait and see if it abates later in the morning. Good excuse to stay in and drink coffee :)

Glad things went ok @ianpspurs and it obviously hasn't affected your observational skills or sense of humour :)

Hope your day treats you kindly :)

Yes @Fndwheelie post these pics, we would like to see them upload_2019-8-31_10-27-29.gif

I have it on my home page, next to this diabetes thread! Or else I cannot find it!

Hopefully this is it

I think this might be the link http://yoursmiles.org/ or at least a link. Knock yourself out

@ianpspurs Oh what a fun time you are having. Sorry - I shouldn't joke about it. Would you like us to get a team together to help you escape.
The consultant says go home you muppet or something like that - medical jargon. Today's Chinese nurse makes the bed best of all. I must drink lots of water and take it easy - the water sounds like a plan I could live with while I wait for more news. Does Ben Stokes do urology?
Edited to correct nationality

I love a well made hospital bed @ianpspurs !!!
But not the rest of whatever comes with it !

Only decent emoji with a bed I could find!

Happy weekend, everyone. 6.1 here this morning after a night of sleeping ON the bed instead of IN it. I fell asleep on it late last night and when I woke some hours later I couldn't be bothered to get under the covers so just rolled over and went back to sleep. It's really much easier making the bed this way -- just straighten the comforter and rearrange the pillows, bear, and panda. (I know, pathetic.)

@ianpspurs you sound very cheerful despite your surroundings. I hope they will hurry up with your report and muppet you on out of there.

@PenguinMum , Bobs and Daisy, the KittenCat and I have similar issues with our (very dark brown) carpet. Since the KittenCat's hairs are mostly black, they don't show up daily on the carpet. But every. single. bit of fluff, lint, shed claw, whisker, crumb, etc., does -- it only takes a couple of days for the carpet to start looking like the inside of a washing machine when someone forgot to empty their pockets of all papers. Then, when I've vacuumed up the visible litter, I open up the vacuum cleaner to empty it -- only to find enough cat hairs inside to stuff a sofa's worth of pillows.

@Fndwheelie I'm glad you got back to the smileys page again! I would love to see the pics of your train.

Unsure about the hug but thought it was on the low side of ok even though not a hypo. Take care.

Ian

That reading was approx 8.30

I’m currently up in the 6s

It’s been a terrible week for me lots of hypos during the night especially, even though I reducing basal and bolus

Anyway last night I was undisturbed and slept well

It could be worse so I’m grateful for that

Thanks for the hug I’ll take it

Have a good weekend Ian are you up to much?

6.7!!! High for me. It is what it is, I've no.idea what is in the food I'm eating. Hubby (non diabetic) up too. Nothing to do with his cocktails I'm sure!

DAY 6 - CORSICA FRANCE

Stunner of a port. And just a hop skip and a jump to the town. We just walked though!

First thing you see is a small market, but I caught a glimpse of a little train through the stalls. We love them as they give you a good idea of what the town is about. Booked for the longest option. 1 hour 30 minutes.

Well this has to be the busiest little train we have ever been on. Lucky to get a seat we said to each other, smiling smugly. Every man for himself. We bagged 2 seats at the back of the first carriage.

It set off. The commentary was in 3 languages but we were cracking up as the English guy was VERY broad Yorkshire. no offence to my Yorkshire friends! Just that that never happens.

It seems this little train is a coastal run. With a 15 minute stop to see Napoleon's statue. We hopped off, took some photos and meandered back to the train.

Well 3 little old ladies had taken our seats. No problem, we sat in the next carriage. A young Italian lady (I use the term lady in the lose sense of the word!) Came over to us ranting and gesticulating as Italians do. Even though I got A * GCSE Italian I was clueless as to what she was saying. Obviously not the kind of words you learn for your GCSE! We pointed at the 3 ladies saying that they had taken our seats. The 3 ladies ignored us and pretended to admire the scenery. They couldn't pull the wool over our eyes. We went over to them. Shouted OUT OF OUR SEATS- NOW - MOVE IT!!! obviously that isnt what happened. We just moved seats like little lambs. Thinking 'karma' and sure enough when we next stopped the Italian lady banged her head on exiting. I then did a hop skip and jump!

Rest of day passed without further incidents. Walk around town, back to ship. Our usual routine. Cocktail x 2 for Eric, glass of wine for me whilst I write my postcard to my auntie (sending one from each port). Back to room. Balcony, chill, shower and dinner. But wait, it was FORMAL night otherwise now known as wear your best. Yippee. Long black sparkly gown and diamante time. Down to the bar area. . I was the only one in a long gown! It seems formal isn't as formal as it used to be! So quick run (as fast as you can in in 5 inch heels) back to our room to do a quick change. Fortunately the leg rash had faded so didnt feel conscious in my knee length dress.

Pics at every opportunity :-) dinner, kamikaze karaoke (you don't pick your own song, they pick for you, I'm bad enough when I can pick my own so that was a no no) and a show. The story of the tango. Fabulous.

Tomorrow PORTOFINO!

Liking the sounds of that day, @Debandez

Sorry about the rash, but long dress, most elegant and cool..very Joanna Lumley,
cycling around sounds lovely until you forget which way to look and
THEY forget you don't know were you're going..:woot:

Shanks's pony best bet..and you SEE more of the route.

Like the pic..but is the olive tree still to post ?
some times it's those 'Quiet' moments that please the most, i think.

Did like barcelona when we went, got a lovely vibe to it.
thank you for taking me back..:)

Next stop corsica...can't wait.:D

The wifi or lack of is killing me! Home late tomorrow. Back to normal. Attached some more pics including the olive tree!

Glad you are enjoying the pics. I love sharing.

Oh Debs you look fab in your black dress...what a pity you felt you needed to dress down..bet you put them all to shame! Oh and Eric scrubs up well also! Thanks for reminding me of Corsica..we had our honeymoon there but we were uber poor at the time so stuck to our little coastal town mainly but did visit Ajaccio for a day. Hope you enjoy your last day..we’ e all enjoyed your travelog and pics.

I must confess to having a spare Nespresso Machine so I don't need to go without my Nespresso for even one day if my main machine breaks down

I do feel a bit guilty using the capsules even though I recycle them. A cafetiere is more environmentally friendly but I do love trying lots of different coffees which I can do with the capsules. I do like the sound of your stainless steel cafetiere.

I had a Nespresso machine for a while and also liked the choice of coffees. I gave it to my cash strapped but coffee loving daughter once Aldi started doing compatible coffee pods. I also bought refillable capsules that were supposed to work with the Nespresso but they were rubbish - a complete waste of money, so if you happen to see an online advert for them don’t bother.
@ziggy_w I know has a separate suitcase for her coffee maker for when she travels - true dedication!

I have a friend who bought a second hand professional Italian barista that was being replaced in his local koffy shop - all red, silver and brass with fancy crests - he even went on a course after he plumbed it into his kitchen.
Interestingly - he recommends grinding your own beans and experimenting with how coarsely/finely you grind as the taste of the end product changes.
I just use a cafetiere and whatever koffy is on offer as I am a philistine (I don’t drink instant though, or that muck that sits in glass jugs on a hot plate for hours on end - yuk!)

Must admit I go for what’s on offer too. When I graduate to black coffee ( if I can wean myself off cream) I think the flavour of the beans will be more pronounced and I expect to become more of a coffee snob.
I’m impressed by your friend though. I’d be really chuffed if I was him.

Thank you for the tip about the refillable capsules - will definitely avoid them. I use the Aldi coffee also - I really like the lungo and the ristretto capsules. Then there are at least 10 Nespresso capsules I really like also. Not all of them every day of course I hasten to add.
