@genepher hugs for your tech problems, really awful. Two nice paintings today, again a well captured atmosphere and strong bold colours.

@Debandez and @jjraak regarding Alexa, I have used all those phrases and many more that can't be repeated. :)

A day of entertainingso busy busy, fingers crossed for no rain in the hope we can pop into Shugborough Hall and see what the NT have done with the Walled Garden.

5.8 this morning. Really tired this morning. Was sitting here drinking my 2nd coffee of the morning thinking that it was really really nice when I realised that I hadn't added the cream. I hadn't noticed because of the crema that forms on top of the Nespresso.

Is this the end of the road for the cream.

luckily I read through this post as predictive text wrote 22nd cup of coffee.
 
Good morning everyone from the dark and dangerous north where even now, this weeks episode of International Bin Day is well under way with a Calypso Band and a choir of international singers, all wearing respirators in case they sneeze on anyone from 30 feet away, are mumming around the town.

The wonder wheel of the last of my home made corned beef slow baked in spices and bone marrow came in at 4.8 this am.

Mr and Mrs Robin have taken up residence in one of the nesting boxes in the back garden. Which is nice, as long as you are not another bird hoping to use the bird feeder closest to said nesting box. Mr Robin has only backed down once, when an unfortunate cat belonging to the hideous cat lady up the street broke through the anti-moggy defences this weekend and stumbled into super soaker land (she has 12 now (the cat lady, not Mrs Robin) but what can you expect from a character based upon a book by Alan Bennett). Anyhow the giant super soaker did it’s job and moggy defences have been strengthened. I am quite ambivalent when it comes to cats as long as they stay out of my garden. Maybe I should invest in a dog flap to let the next door neighbours three terriers in as they run a fitness centre for cats in their patch and are always on the lookout for new customers?

Anyhow, hope that you are all as well as you can be, massive big hugs for @gennepher and Poppy, perhaps get in touch with Picard on the Borg Artefact? Koffy now and then the dreaded Piriformis exercises - I am now taking the intermediate class.

Funny for the cream - yes, bin the cream - or not - do a double blind tasting with other family members making endless cups of Nespresso with and without cream until you can’t take any more of either and are just on mint tea.

I am thinking of contacting Amazon, maybe ask for all the information they hold on me, however I suspect I would be swamped with huge files to search through which would kill any of my computers.

All very strange.

Edit.. just to add, which may also throw some light on things, I use the AI to remind me when to take my BG. I always ask to set a reminder 'To feed Dracula' did the AIs algorithms associate Mary Shelley????

Answer the easy stuff first -

You can find out what conversations triggered Alexa by:
  • Opening the Alexa app on your smartphone.
  • Tap the menu button on the top-left side of the screen.
  • Scroll down and select ‘Settings.’
  • Scroll down the page and tap ‘History.’
Delete as much as you like.

There are lots of reports of Alexa being triggered for no apparent reason. In the case of numerous people conversing it has been put down to the fact that humans have selective hearing and only hear what they are directly involved in (generally), Alexa hears all the words at once and could mistake sounds from multiple people as coming from one person and if that sound is close to the trigger word, responding.

You can reduce this effect by training Alexa, via the app, to recognise individual voices in the family. The side effect is 'she' will address you by name after that.

Most non-intentional triggers are AI glitches where Alexa's algorithm simply hears something that isn't there or is misheard.

Coloured ring meanings:
  • Pulsing violet indicates that there was a problem during Wi-Fi setup.
  • Spinning orange means the device is currently connecting to your network.
  • Solid red means the microphone has been turned off and Alexa is not actively listening for your commands.
  • A spinning blue light that ends with a purple flash indicates that Do Not Disturb has been activated.
  • A flash of purple after you interact with Alexa means that Do Not Disturb is still enabled.
  • A continuously spinning white light means Alexa Guard is on Away Mode.
  • A pulsing green light indicates an incoming call.
  • A spinning green light means you're currently on a call.
  • A pulsing yellow light is telling you that you have messages in your inbox. You can say, "Play my messages" or "Check my notifications" for more information.
  • A solid band of blue with a cyan spot indicating the direction of the speaker will appear when you speak the wake word.

Like you, I can't find any other references to Shelley. Alexa does have a pretty good translate function, I'm learning Chinese and use it to check my pronunciation but again, I can't see that waking up without a direct command.

Here we are again, bobbing up and down. Literally in some cases since the weather refuses to read the memo DC sent round on exactly who has taken back control of life, the universe and everything. My fbg was 5.8 so FailyMcfailyface in man v T2 game once again. Ember day today so in theory fasting but will no one think of the poor macros in that scenario? @Krystyna23040 Alexa or other AI device clearly misheard crema and hey nonny ho presto. Enjoy Wednesday and indeed all your days. Epic post @dunelm. Only Borg I know/care about was the excellent tennis player and I intend to keep things that way.

Today I have a hospital test which is very personal and one I have never been able to go through with, usually done in Tesco’s carpark but this time they are giving me a longer appointment in a hospital department. I am grateful for that but not sure of success.
Later I will be in my “lab” making hand sanitiser for anyone coming through my front door. No admittance otherwise.

I have absolutely no idea what my shocked face had looked like to her when this unexpected 'transmission' came into my skull, She thought I had gone completely doolally. My processor is still beeping with its various connecting and disconnecting noises, and I got intermittent garbled words directly into my skull. I managed to say to her, "oh, I'm sorry my hearing aid battery has gone", pointing to my speech processor. That satisfied her that she did not have a lunatic on her hands. I left the shop and my cochlear speech processor returned to normal, and then started picking up normal external sounds, which come through the speech processor, and that is transferred via the magnet in my head through to the Cochlear wires, and does not have the scary impact of the earlier "transmission" (?) directly into my skull...is the best way I can explain this.

I feel I am assimilated into the Borg collective...

I have had problems into past with earlier cochlear speech processors. The first one I had 12 years ago when J was alive, I used to pick up stuff with my speech processor. But the stuff I picked up then was directed/picked up by the Cochlear speech processor (not like the scary directly into the skull impact of yesterday), and I told J. His first reaction was don't be silly. I told him, I am telling you, I am picking stuff up. Then he was with me, in the kitchen, when it happened. He put his ear next to my Cochlear Speech processor, and starts laughing. I can hear that someone is talking, but I cannot hear the detail of the words. But J with his normal hearing can. It turns out that it was two of my neighbours talking a conversation they should not have had with each other as they were married to other people. So J is trying to relay the telephone conversation I am picking up in my Speech Processor that I don't have the ability to hear the details of.. A ridiculous situation. I couldn't look those neighbours in the eye again. I often picked up those two people when I was standing in a particular spot...by the kitchen sink.

There were lots of other instances in those first years when I picked up stuff via my Cochlear speech processor that I should not have picked up, but I needed J to put his ear next to my Cochlear speech processor to relay to me what as actually being said, because as I said I couldn't make out the words, but a hearing person could. The above I related is a funny instance. The hospital audiologist said that the frequency in the Cochlear speech processor needed to be changed to another one. They did that, but it made no difference. It is bl**dy annoying. Then J died and I had no one to tell me what I was picking up by listening with an ear next to my processor. Well, people don't want to know when you tell them this...

After that, I just took the speech processor off if it happened, until I moved out of that vicinity.

Yesterday was a whole new scary ball game in this...

Why do these stupid things happen to me?

I am going back to driving the car with no Cochlear speech processor on. I couldn't have something like that happen as it did in the shop when I was trying to buy the kitchen roll. I've driven all my life with no sound input, and never an accident in my life, I have been driving since I was 17, until that stupid Apple update, which sent unexpected alerts and that suddenly telephone ringing directly into my skull which caused my brain to freeze and I drove into that wall.

No sound is better. I question Cochlear Implants. I have a Cochlear meeting today, and I am going to bring yesterday's incident up. But I won't get far, I know I won't...

By the way I never paint with any incoming sound...apart from the tinnitus of course...the speech processor stays in its box when I paint.

Both me and the lady i worked with got headaches 15 20 mins later, began feeling nauseous 5 10 mins after that.
light bulb moment had us turn off the monitor..15 mins later feel like normal..so switch it back on..and the symptoms returned.

Had to fight tooth and nail to get it swapped back, spoke to many others who had the new units who lived with lesser headaches, as stores were bigger, and they put it down to the air con, or the weather, blah blah.

Got my way, but was firmly told i was 'imagining it' ' creating a bit of a nuisance' 'making it up' last said by engineer who told me he had NEVER had any issues with them and had worked in the industry for hundreds of years type way.

Googled and seems we DO have an issue, the UK sanctions higher rates of background radiation emissions then the US & rest of the world

Yes, that's really important to be as safe as you can be -:it's a huge responsibility. I feel the same as I have 3 clients undergoing chemotherapy at the moment and I have to make sure that they stay safe.

I thought I ought to order more Dettol antiviral/antibacterial wipes but my usual supplier is out of stock and prices elsewhere have gone sky high. I have 2000 wipes which hopefully will last but will need to limit each client to one wipe - which actually should be sufficient.

Absolutely agree. If you can get to Waitrose there are Dettol wipes in two sizes on offer atm. I plan to keep some in my car and after a house viewing I will use one as I enter my house on the door knob and proceed to clean all door knobs wash hands thoroughly in kitchn, grab more wipes and do remainder of door knobs upstairs. Once I get into a routine it will be easy.

4.9 today

so much for the bracing walk with Katy yesterday ;) I've noticed that if I miss a meal and am hungry during the day my next day fbg reading is sometimes a bit higher, unpredictable this T2 ;)

One thing about my recent DN visit, she was weirdly fascinated by the fact that my weight is very close to what it was six months ago, and 12 months ago come to that.

Gratifying for me (the weight thing not the weirded thing :D), since I've been aiming to maintain my weight and bg since I stopped actively trying to lose weight, but then my DN has been trying out weightwatchers and slimming world over the period since my diagnosis to see if she could lose weight. I used to ask but don't any more, but I've mentioned LCHF every appointment :angelic:

On reflection I do think that she is now more accepting of LCHF for bg control than she was when I began but I find it odd that she doesn't seem to make the other connection that my now being less than half my original bodyweight and fairly stable (my weight that is ;) :hilarious: ), after struggling most of my adult life is also down to LCHF.

@gennepher I'm glad you were able to get some satisfactory attention for Popeye too, hopefully you will both get a little more 'calm sailing' now after both appointments are past.
