What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

No harm in a game being a reason for people to discuss and enjoy. Not that I would. But if it makes people happy - fair enough. I just feel it being imposed on me (football or some other sport) throughout the year as though it was the most important thing in the world. It really isn't while there is war, injustice, famine, danger to be faced.
We can't just be dealing with serious issues, there are an whole range of subjects that can be discussed, I can't understand those who say they are bored.
D.

While normally loving the football, I do see @Annb point.

The 'Yawn in the USA" front page news......Purleeeease

As for other shows, seems cheap, cheerful & mindless is the order of the day for TV execs.

Reality TV, low budget but full of wanna be celebs, almost guaranteeing an audience, poor quality & big profit TV, in all its glory .

But I am minded there are other channels AND the big red switch if needed.

Harmless amusement to the masses, just not for me .

I want my entertainment to
A. Distract me.
B. Entertain me.

Watching someone doing stuff we all do, or watching those with more money then sense going about their day, is beyond annoying.....so I'm 'Oot' as they say.

Last word is, enjoy this world cup.

With a carefully planned bid, rules etc laid out & agreed with each federation years months & days in advance, to then have rules of behaviour changed & imposed on teams and national associations, with unlimited costs (fines, bookings, dismissals etc ) at the last minute (admittedly last 10 minutes, prior to taking the field )

Smacks of dishonesty & censorship, that just wouldn't have been voted for IF they had said upfront how restrictive & Draconian this W/C regime would be.

With the (mainly) European federations seemingly taking legal advice over this W/C.

FIFA , for their 8 pieces of gold, may have set in motion the demise of the competition .

And kudos to Germany, for exemplifying the issue so eloquently.

Sadly, jjraak - it's more often than not the big red switch for me. I notice that even BBC1 is showing a repeat of "Death in Paradise" from a couple or three seasons back. Bad enough that all the Freeview channels are only offering endless repeats or shopping. I actually enjoyed the mildly amusing "D in P" first time around, but it doesn't repeat particularly well. That's why I get so irritated when the news programmes (almost the only thing left that I want to watch) are full of "games" more than they are of "news". And on that point, why has no programme recently mentioned the Royal Mail strike, or investigated the reason for it. That surely is newsworthy for everyone. Too busy taking up time with football?

Edit to add: The German demonstration was one thing I have to agree was worthwhile - saw that on the news as well.

Yesterday, the doorbell went. I never answer the doorbell unless I am expecting someone/parcel/etc. But I was expecting something within that time frame. So I answered it.

I don't have the doorbell on the front door, it kept going missing, so, you have to be in the know to realise my doorbell is through my gates, in the side passage on my kitchen door which cannot be seen from the street. But no one was standing there. There is a frosted glass door. So, I opened it, and this guy who looked like Father Christmas leapt in view (not a good sign, but my front garden gardening tools are besides me). It was just his long white hair and long white beard that looked incongruous. He wore white paint spattered navy dungarees (the dungarees themselves looked too smart and new, and the white paint spattering looked like he'd had the dungarees on the ground and dripped blobs of white paint on them.

I'm just working for a neighbour, he said, and I noticed your roof needs work on it. No thank you I said, and go to close the door, but he gets a bit too close (I know I can't shut it quickly enough, I hate these plastic doors, give me a solid 100 year old oak door any time), and then tells me my roof is bowing and needs some urgent work on it. Just a few planks will shore it up, and you'll be safe. NO, I say. But he gets even closer. You don't realise, your roof is in danger of collapse on top of you, you don't want that. Just a few wooden planks will sort it...

My secateurs are by my door because I had been using them an a hour earlier in my front garden. My hand involuntarily lands on them. He backs off. I don't pick them them up, but I lunge towards him. GO, I say aggressively. He backs away, not expecting this, leaves quickly. I shut the door, lock it. Get my shoes on, go out, lock the door, then go out after him, I don't have anything in my hands, but he has vanished totally.

I have a a text number to the police and reported it.

But my peace of mind was completely disturbed afterwards, because to come through that gate, it had to be with intent. And I could see he had already explored the passage, because he'd pushed through some nasturtiums...

I stayed in the front garden, kitchen door locked, clipping the vegetation with my secateurs, and half hour later my parcel arrived (I didn't want to hear my doorbell again, I would have been too jumpy to answer), I put the secateurs in my pocket, before I took the parcel from him, and what I didn't notice was he had taken a photo of me reaching for the parcel, and I saw this when I looked online afterwards, he had just taken a photo of my lower half, as proof of delivery.

So, watch out, Father Christmas may not be bringing the present you expect.

I would not have answered had I not been expecting the delivery. This is the first incident in about 10 years. Why pick on me? Why not pick on a house that didn't have shut gates?

By the way I have my regular roofer, had him for 10 plus years now, and he did a bit of work for me last year, so I knew my roof was fine.

So, I will be wary for awhile now. If someone is casing a joint, it is not immediate they come back, possibly 2 weeks later when you have dropped your guard...

On the wild life trail camera, the fox was being cautious, constantly checking for the whereabouts of that cat, Midnight, who hisses and bops this particular fox one on the nose when he gets too close. But no cat, the cat was being a living fur blanket keeping me warm that night...

You handled that horrid situation yesterday really well @gennepher. He definitely didn't expect Wonder Woman to open the door.

just read your post gave you a funny for the predicted text, but wanted to give you hug for your full on day. Ask the diary keeper to look for other employment, oh silly me that’s you isn’t it.
The diary keeper has done exactly the same again for the next two Saturdays. The diary keeper is obviously much better at teachIng pilates than she is at managing the workload.

Many years ago when I was bringing up the kids I very rarely answered the door without staking the premises out! This particular day I was hassled by a big bloke (bailiff) threatening me for debts my ex husband had. I just happened to have cricket bat by the door and proceeded to pick it up. I informed him that I do Thai chi and I if speeded up I could and would land him on his backside and I would not need to use the cricket bat! I also informed him that he would need extensive dental procedures after the said event. I have never seen a person move so quick! He never came back. Hell have no fury like a women's corns lol

The cat I call Ghost Cat (because he looks white on the nighttime wildlife trail camera), enters the garden within a metre of the fox in the bushes. The fox's dancing eyes watch Ghost Cat, who appears to be aware of the existence of the fox...except he does turn his head at one point...

Yesterday I was due a 3 parcel delivery from Amazon. And their vans don't leave the trading estate near here until 11:30, so, I had plenty of time.
I got dressed In my outdoor clothes, because I was going to the charity shops for some more jumpers to make leg warmers from. I wanted some fancy jumpers!
The road traffic is very light on a Saturday morning round here, and I enjoy a drive then. I was about leave to get there for 9am, but I checked my phone first before I put it in my bag. Your DPD driver will be with you in a few minutes. What? I am not expecting anything from DPD, only Amazon. The last email said these 3 parcels were coming from Amazon. So, I am thinking this might be a scam first of all. But then I notice I am due 3 DPD deliveries based on the DPD message, from different drivers, different times of day. And on each potential delivery it says DPD say this parcel is not suitable to be left in your safe place, so you have to receive it in person. Then Amazon send a message saying about the DPD driver delivering my parcels. I get to the kitchen door just in time and take my first parcel.

Obviously I don't have time to go out now in between parcels. So, I was very disappointed.

But to make sure I don't miss the parcels, I am on high alert now, and sit on the front couch all day watching for delivery drivers. The next one was due a few hours later, and the final one due at tea time when it is getting dark. I cannot do anything. I am all tensed up listening and watching. I can't have my naps in case I go asleep a few hours. So, by the time the tea time one came I am all wound up inside. Why couldn't Amazon deliver my three parcels in one go like they usually do?

But when I go to the kitchen door when I saw the DPD white van arrive, I am faced with my stupid neighbour's flashing Xmas lights all down the side of his bungalow less than 6 metres away, flashing into my kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. He must've put them up today. My heart sank through the floor. I have mentioned this in previous years, that the flashing Xmas lights between his bungalow and mine, in such close proximity disturbs my sleep. This is a dead area that no one, neither him, nor the street can see, so it serves no purpose. I am not against Xmas lights as such...he decorates the front and back garden and the other side which does face the street, up to the nines. None of that interferes with me or my sleep.

So this meant I couldn't relax, and I stayed on the couch all evening dozing on and off (my front garden has a lot of vegetation and Xmas lights cannot penetrate into my front room). It was nearly midnight before he turned them off. Then I could go to my bed...

Silly me, instead of just going straight back to sleep, I am thinking, you mean this is what I have to do the next 6 or 7 weeks. So, I didn't get straight back to sleep.

Just now been talking to my daughter in Australia, and she came up with a brilliant idea. She sent me some links to those black out screens you put inside the car window if you are sleeping in the car, they have suckers on them. And there were some bigger ones. You can move them round to where you need them, she said, because curtains/blinds/blackoput screens you can't open and shut etc . All that I have difficulty with.

There is, at last, hope on the horizon. This seems very doable for the dexterity I am capable of.

I have found a blackout one I like - it is on offer, and it has cats printed all over it!

Bye...I am now off shopping in Amazon....

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and all those climbed trees in their youth and still wished they could now.

Blood sugars this morning were 4.4, I know what I have planned for today, therefore this reading is causing a little consternation, sliderule, tea bags etc, etc. Dosage arrived at and a slightly higher carb breakfast consumed. Never mind onwards and upwards.
.
I shall be unsupervised this morning while Mrs J goes to pick up 2 trays of farm fresh eggs then meets with a few friends doing a “ ladies what natter “ in a local koffy shop, while me, me’s and myself ponder construction techniques for stiffening a gate support post, repositioning a neighbours set of lights and generally making banging and screwing noises. Think yourselves lucky you don’t live next door to me, woodworking machinery and a motorcycle.
.
Stay safe all and now I must make Mrs J’s tea.

Good morning everyone from a pleasantly quiet start here in the dark and dangerous north. The last of my current course of Doxycycline has been consumed (with some prebiotics) and I am enjoying the quietness of it all. TV hasn’t been used much for terrestrial viewing lately - far too much squawking and thank goodness for catch up where even the 6 o’clock news can be all over and done with in les than 5 minutes. I note that some folk have now just about completed their Christmas shopping - we have not started, far too early - it’s a posh Sunday lunch, the exchange of a few well thought out gifts, The King’s Speech (will he be played by Colin Firth?) and Bridge On The River Kwai - stop going mad. Art bit - a corridor to wander down perhaps. Have the best day that you can, cars are very good on fuel when parked on your drive. Must get some koffy.

All that palaver with deliveries - probably go on for a few weeks what with postal strike, mad people and Black Friday closely followed by Christmas crazies. Beautiful art work, very pleasing

You are amazing.

I did Aikido years ago, and we were taught a particular self defence move. Very effortless and simple. I didn't know if I could still do it, so just tested it out to see if I still remembered, on a doll that was lying around here.she now has a broken arm...I remembered....

Hugs for you

Big fall off the wagon again after three "good" days. Suppose it's to be expected after months of eating without much thought.
Wet morning now I have no exuse for not tackling, once again, the dreaded curtains. It is always more difficult to alter them than to make new. There is one enormous curtain 140x90 curtain which MrSlim says wants turning into a pair. He reasons that the door they cover is actually a window! It is also too short. So I am currently working on lengthening it. Of course the lining will then be too short and need some additional fabric as well.
That's one part of the task.
The other part is to lengthen the "pair" i have already adapted for the arched window. They are slightly different sizes so not exactly a pair. We were given a 2 metre length of fabric, a fortunate find, as it's a discontinued design. The trick will be to stretch it sufficiently to lengthen all of them. There is no possibility of matching the pattern. We only need about eight inches more on them, but there is a lot of width to cover. It's going to be very tight. Have tackled this intermittently, alternating with putting it off for nearly a year. Although each attempt does get a little further towards curtains in all the four places they are needed.

Thank you very much @dunelm for the artwork compliment

Can I go to sleep for December and wake up in January when all this madness is over?

Good luck @SlimLizzy for getting near to that curtain project wrapped up.
