What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Yesterday was a trial day without cow's milk. It may be an abberation but, BG stayed around 7 all day until late afternoon, when it started to drop but it didn't go below 5 at all. That was eating and drinking the same as usual but using coconut milk instead of cow's milk. Still had butter and cheese.

That's just one day, of course but todayis day 2 of the trial and I am drinking cow's milk, and still my usual food. BG started at 7.0 and currently 11.9 - on 2 cups of tea with milk. We'll see....

Good morning everyone on a dull start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. Pity as it was such a lovely bright and sunny day yesterday for the parade of the bin lorry - until the snow came in the afternoon. All gone now. Was that it then? The search is on this morning for a water bottle with fewer diameters for the girl in the bubble’s new bag that she takes to nursery - the side pocked is a bit small. This due to her teacher trying to have her carry an overweight backpack (note to teacher - it doesn’t have to be filled with junk). So, mum has bought a smaller pack to deter stupidity in nursery teachers and conform to H&S/Leveling Up/Red Wall/Blue sky thinking. Art bit - finishing off the detailing before adding colour. Have a fab Friday if you can but not in TGI Friday, that famous glaze will sky rocket your blood sugars. Best finish my koffy.

Well done Mum for getting a smaller backpack. At that age, why would such a small child need to carry anything - other than some water and maybe a snack? Silly teacher. Just as well the little one has some sensible adults on her side. The hug is for having such a daft teacher.

Morning all from a very sunny but bitterly cold Militerised Pig and Spruce compound. Sub-optimal to my mind but the natives love it. One man's meat and all that. Considering the whole context, yesterday was as good as could be expected: sub-optimal as today will undoubtedly be for my aspirations it is a gift to deal with. I may know the concept I do not want what I cannot have but I also know the idea that when you get careless in a fight poo wins. I don't feel inclined to roll over and have my tummy tickled by the giant poo-sandwich-feeding prevailing conditions. Team talk done now to use Kurt Lewin's FFA in the hope of some marginal gains. It is super salmon salad day here once I track down some salmo salar. @Annb some fascinating action research (Lewin again) around the impact of coconut milk. @dunelm best wishes for water bottle hunting and thanks for the art. Looking good to me but just in case anyone possessed a scintilla of doubt I'm as mad as several boxes of frogs. RIP David Crosby. We who remain should take care and do the right thing simply because it is the right thing like, I don't know, say vacuuming thoroughly. Resistance exercise and brownie points all in one.

Fbg 6.2 this morning. Bit to soon to get the result of blood test just yet so will just have to wait and see.

Grandson has started a new job recently after leaving his last job over irreconcilable differences with the manager at his last post. Though am wondering if it maybe a case of frying pan to fire as he is now working for the Post Office as a data analyst. He is also studying remotely with Bristol University for his Masters degree.

Adrian has returned to Ards friary after his Christmas break though as he is only on loan there he will be returning to Oxford to continue his studies later in the year.

At Ards they have published a book entitled The Trees Of Ards which he helped produce though it can only be obtained from Ards. I have a copy and it is really good.

I really want to disprove the hypothesis (that I shouldn't drink cow's milk) but, so far it's not looking good. Whatever the result today, I will test again, and again, hoping for a result that I want (isn't that the way politicians do it? Test the water - wrong result/test again and again until you get one you want).

Not quite how contemporary politics works - did it always? No. You hold up a piece of black paper and say, "see, perfectly white - ignore the black. That's just doom and gloom." Probably a good idea to blame illegal immigrants in boats,, Scargill and The Woke next. Gives the base what they imagine the all over Susan Sarandon in Katz Deli vibe would feel like. Does coconut milk taste ok and does using it make you feel any better? If so you've taken back control, levelled up, put an arm around yourself and built back (even a bit) better all in one go without causing chaos, needless suffering , immiserating millions for generations and using industrial levels of mendacity. How do you feel about running for PM, or heck, even POTUS - do you have a garage for classified files? :D

RIP David Crosby - expecting to fly and for what it’s worth - Buffalo Springfield before that Nash bloke got involved.

Somewhat more comfortable today so took Marjorie in to Carlisle to get a Christmas present for me exchange for a bigger size at Marks.
It was the first time Marjorie had been near the shops since before the pandemic.
Tired now after driving there and back.

Coming back could see all the Northern fells and Skiddaw white with snow.
Pennines look to have far less snow.
Now for a doze.

Not a fan of Nash then? this, credited to Nash, was quite the anthem for some back in the day. Has a very bitter irony now or is just plain soul destroying considering what that/our generation has done. See attached (we did this, pointless denying it as our dabs are all over the smoking gun) - I didn't link the whole article it has a rude word - you can guess the source. She's usually good value but today was superb: luxury menswear influencer Rishi Sunak is apparently facing a law enforcement probe for removing his seatbelt to film a video for his Insta, as part of the police’s ruthless commitment to rooting out trivial wrongdoing so that people mind less when another one of them is revealed to have broken the law
Don't splatter your device with hot beverage of choice disgusted of ......???

It tastes just OK. Not great. If it does the job, it's worth the effort, but not otherwise. The jury is out - BG is dropping from its pre-breakfast high, so maybe milk isn't the problem, or maybe the beneficial effect of the coconut lasts to the next day. Who knows? May have to redesign the experiment to take that into account. 'Twas ever thus with action research.

Didn’t mind but preferred the sound coming out of Buffalo Springfield rather than CSN&Y

Fbg 6.5

Had appointment this morning. By the time I got back, too tired to do a digital painting. So you get a photo of Midnight at the head of my couch, behind my back, in the front room.

Wildlife camera was on in the daytime day before yesterday, so it's the birds and cats in the day. The robin and blackbird like to help themselves to cat biscuits at the other end of the swing to the cat. I did have a 'discussion' with Merlin earlier that birds are not to be chased and caught in my garden. And so far that 'discussion' has been adhered to. He had shown an earlier interest in the birds, and I had gone out like a wailing banshee, flailing my crutches. Merlin fled at that apparition approaching him, but returned to his spot on the swing later, very aware that he should do nothing to upset me. Midnight had come out later with me, and Merlin began the spitting growling at Midnight, but he stopped the second I told him NO, he was not allowed to do that to my cat. Merlin did look very warily at my crutch as if there was a danger the wailing banshee would suddenly reappear. Merlin needs his space, and I am allowed to put my hand near him but not touch him, or he starts growling and spitting. I did manage to touch his body once, and he was literally skinny and bones. He needs feeding up. He has been a stray for awhile. There will be all the food available that he needs. The cat biscuits are also available on the other end of the swing, from the wind chimes, 24/7. I have noticed that Merlin seems to lick his lips a lot. I noticed Jade did the same very often. And I wondered if it was some sort of nervousness with being on that exposed position on the swing?

Midnight shows no animosity to Merlin, he completely ignored his hissing and spitting.

Now I need a nap before I sort out nighttime feeding.

Take care...

As is your right. They completely passed me by* but I'll give them a listen on youtube. Of course like much else the moment may have passed. Music and literature (is art the same?) can be like holiday wine, meals and romance. The moment goes and you're left thinking what was I ever thinking?
* Edit: I did know of stop children what's that sound and decided they weren't for me

Afternoon, been a lot busy and enjoying being busy, woodworking, plinky plonky still to be done along with daily walk and afternoon nap.

Blood sugars this morning were 6.1

@Annb Me, me’s and myself realised that semi skinned milk raised my blood sugars and now just drink my tea and koffy without milk.

Stay safe & warm zzzzzz’s are calling.

My eldest thinks she has difficulties with dairy.
She never did at home when we got full fat Jersey milk as bottled by the local farmer straight from the cow but out of the cooler.

I find skimmed and semi skimmed milk foul. It has to be full fat for me.

If I can't sleep at night I often have two thirds of a mug warmed well up in a microwave and find I go to sleep very quickly.

End of full cream milk test day. I've actually added extra milk in with 2 glasses of cold milk and my Libre has just beeped at me to say BG is at 3.9. That is well above 4 on the fingerprick, so it's not a problem as long as it doesn't continue to drop. However, it doesn't indicate that milk adversely affects BG. I'm intending to do another cow's milk day tomorrow in case it's a hangover from yesterday.

Early to bed, ok...just tired.

Everything was easing

But woken up by gentle coughing which quickly became a real hacking cough .

Up to clear myself
Hot tea & a blast of oil of obas.

Feeling much better

Sat trawling web, as ya do.

Twitter and a link to 'that' tax bill.
Much more to this then let on, it seems....Mmhh.

Anyway, back to bed, to try & catch some zzz's.

@ianpspurs the sink hunt was a washout. The ceramic sink we hoped to buy was damaged and then we were offered a stainless steel version but it was right hand drainer and we need left.
Had French lesson chez nous. Very convivial, carried on past time... Also the French teacher has agreed to feed Kiki when we go to UK. I will pay her because she will be driving here.
MrSlim started to be unwell in the evening. Unusual for him. Am wondering if it was result of covid jabs? He hasn't been quite right since we had them. Then again neither have I.

Cold and sunny start to the day. Don't think MrSlim will be fit to go up on roof today, but he is concerned about leaving the house before he has fixed the damaged roof.
