What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

6.8 on this very wet rainy pre counselling day.
Watching England batting (sorry that is wrong) standing in the middle, just a precession of wickets, a really sorry effort. All out for not many!

Gonna have a bite to eat before appointment.

Just had a call from my brother who told me Mum had a fall in the road, two days ago, but she will be alright and no need to come home.
Bump and cut on the head, two black eyes and several nasty bruises elsewhere. Am actually more worried that nobody knows why she fell.
And the twelve hours waiting in A&E still makes me quiver with rage at the inefficiency of the NHS.
 
Just back from my eye appointment - apparently they have deteriorated in the last 3 months. Wasn't aware of that. Had an unexpected blood test for some reason. Luckily the nurse managed to find a vein first time.

Have to go out again to get my legs rebandaged this afternoon. It'll be interesting to see how much they swell by this late in the day - usually I am bandageless just for a couple of hours. They are a bit swollen already but not too badly yet.

Marjorie' s dad didn't like the Germans. He was in the army before the war as a regular and fought in the infantry in the retreat from Dunkirk. He was one of the last ones off and he told me how the Stucas sank the boat in front and behind them.

Then like one of my uncles he was in the desert and into Italy he thought Monty was a great guy.
He was a little man, but very hard, once a German sniper shot his driver, I said what did you do Joe? O I just pushed him over and drove on.
He hated the Germans come to the pub in a Beer festival in the village when he was a old man, but I quite understood his reaction.

I don't think it's inefficiency its lack of staff. Ask the Conservatives they have under funded the health service for years!
 
Some hugs and hopes for no change to give out. @SlimLizzy hug for your Mum and the stress that incident has caused you. @Annb sorry to hear that your eyes have deteriorated and I hope the legs don't swell too much. @jjraak I hope the MRI shows no change. @lindisfel your father in law sounds quite a character. My grandfather was also at Dunkirk and one of the last out. He never spoke about it but did have his saws sharpened by a German who had been a POW and lived locally. Grandfather, who had been regular army, also spoke some Cantonese and Urdu? - most of which my Strict Baptist grandmother forbade him to teach me. It was "fruit growers" - those with very basic (i.e. small) smallholdings - who thus dodged war service he was most vitriolic about much more than the other side who he said at least served their country.

My father was at Dunkirk this is an excerpt from his war record.

He and a communications officer set a communication set up in a hut nrear the beach the officer was killed just before they were leaving by a German shell that went right through the hut they were in. He was to receive three more mentions in dispatches and then the DSM for his part in the battle of the Atlantic.

My step father had an intense dislike for Germans he stepped on a mine in Italy and lost his right leg from the knee down it ultimately contributed to his early demise in his fifties so both my mother and grandmother were war widows as my maternal grandfather died at sea in the first year of the war. So there was no love for the German nation in our family.

Just got back from counselling, walked there and back, no pain. Was a bit nervous, anxious beforehand. Have established I'm severely anxious but I'm also still depressed about my circumstances.
It was somewhat enlightening to get my anger issues out there and I am hoping, my counsellor can get me to not just react to quickly to the frustration.

Anyway, I can always come to the forum!

We did once, start a thread, a few years back about our relatives and the wars.
That was around this time of the year coinciding with poppy appeal and remembrance Sunday.

My maternal grandfather was a professional soldier, East Yorkshire Regiment. He was at Dunkirk and then back on D day. North Africa, Italy, commissioned at Monte Casino where he was awarded a Military Medal. Buried in Haifa after being shot by a sniper in Jerusalem in 1948. What an absolute waste is war.
 
7.6 this morning. I had some extra mature cheddar cheese just before bedtime and it looks as though that is the culprit as it has caused high fbs before.

HopefUlly tomorrow will be lower.

Had an enjoyable morning shopping in our little market town and then some catching up with admin.
 
My Dad used to feel bad because he was chosen to be an instructor in the Royal Artillary and was never sent abroad but saw people he had taught sent away to fight. My uncle was at Dunkirk but was one of those who did not get off but had to make their way down the coast to another pick-up point - St Nazaire, I think.

In the 50's my mother was a guide/weaver in the Old Weavers' House in Canterbury and she was amazed at the hatred many Australian visitors showed towards Japanese items in the house.

Humans have a huge capacity for hatred - as we can see again these days. I believe there is an even greater capacity for love and friendship. Pity so many fail to exercise it.

Was that the Stern Gang that shot him?

Monty Casino was absolute hell, mother's second youngest brother was there in a tank after being in the desert. He was a labourer in the gas house and I used to go and have tea with him when I had done my rounds on the electrical kit in the retort house, he told me about Monty Casino. he worked at two jobs to put his kids through grammar school. He never went abroad again after he came back and was demobbed.
His eldest son reckoned he had PTSD but I think not, the son went off to Canada, married and died there of prostate cancer just before the pandemic.
He was at school when we got married.

I believe the Poles took Monty Casino I think they were not big fans of the Third Reich.
