What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen.
It seems the doggiewoggies and kittywitties on this forum are treated better than the average persons children, no wonder we have problems with the youth of today.

I have no problems with pets of any kind, to me they are protein, but most need garlic.
I like to chuck the odd bone over the neighbours fence for their remaining dog, yep you guessed it.... fattening up for the bbq.

Must go, its my day at the local RSPCA customer services.

Plus the best seat on the sofa...nearer the fire than anyone else...can sleep all day if he wants to & no one complains about his snoring or table manners either!
 
Happy Friday, Bon Weekend, Heidi Hi-Di-Hi! The runes have been thrown and some rain predicted today in the big apple and if we are lucky some sleet and perhaps snow.
The wheel of wonderment, misinformation and jollity spat out a 5.2 this morning - was it Bill or was it Ben, who drank lots of wine just then?
Anyhow. A wet weather programme for today, just in case; Maddison Square Garden, maybe the MET and perhaps the Guggenheim. Someone has nicked the T Rex from London and it has been spotted in The American Museum of Natural History - can it be rescued and released into the wilds of Central Park to live on pigeons and tricycle trip touts?

Anyhow, boat trips to Liberty and Ellis islands planned for this morning and then perhaps a wander round the pointy bit of Manhattan. Might do the Skyline again if we have time.
Out tonight to see Chick-a-go - not particular my choice but hey, pop, six, squish, Uh-Hu, Cicero, Lipschitz and all that stuff.

Dragged to see it at theatre, Les Dennis was Mr cellophane.
But liked the film better.
Zelweiger was fantastic.
Roxy heart my fav number

And well done one the pop squish
Almost felt like I was in the audience . Lol

Hello ALL
Morning levels are at around 7.5 but drop steadily during the day, raise during meals but drop back after 2-3 hours.
I am taking 1 Metformin a day and exercise with regular walks and control my diet and test my bloods to see what works !
Doctor is happy with my annual appointment results, but should I be working harder to try and improve these figures ???

Not as warm and laid back as your trip - and all the animals here seem to wear suits and try to push in - I am pretty good at getting in their way.
Chicago was very good - but like you, prefer the film - I was expecting Richard Gere to be wheeled out in a fancy rattan bath chair - but no.

Which sadly says to me it could be much better.

Mine quite pleasant...and I got a text with excellent RESULTS.which i liked, but sadly not bothered in HOW I DID IT..

I know we are all different and many have other conditions and meds
BUT...i think 7.5 is high.
And 2017/2018/2019.. movement going wrong way.

But we are all working to the same goals just under different burdens.

I'd day check the forums, see if anything strikes you as sensible and practical in your own circumstances and give it a go.

A set of your actual daily meals would help others pinpoint areas for improvements maybe

Good luck finding some solutions to some of life's troublesome hurdles.

Good morning all, sorry I didn't get to post yesterday so busy.
Today was 4.4, yesterday 4.7.

@ziggy_w don't worry about the colonscopy, the anticipation is the hardest part. Most people are asleep for the procedure (I'm awake because of sleep apnea & being on a c-pap machine), it's the prep before that is the hardest part. (just be near a bathroom!). The first one is the hardest because you don't know what to expect...

My mom is a stage 3 colon cancer survivor & I'm very high risk because I form a very rare, very dangerous type of polyps that always become cancer in time. I had 5 colonscopies in 1 1/2 years because I had 2 aggressive large polyps of this type that always become cancerous. They removed them 4 times via colonscopy but they kept growing back into the bowel wall. The last colonscopy was to determine whether surgery was necessary (it was because the bowel wall had gotten too thin to attempt further removal via colonscopy) .Therefore 2 years ago last Jan, I had half my colon removed (extended hemicolectomy.) No cancer at all fortunately, my surgeon told me "you dodged a bullet". It was the upper half removed as a result, I don't have a colostomy bag. You can manage quite well with 1/2 a colon. I still get colonscopies more frequently than most people and my daughter had her first at age 31. The doctors are convinced we have a genetic syndrome, I've been tested a number of times at a familial colon cancer genetic clinic but so far, they haven't found the gene responsible.

5.8 this wet grey Friday morning. After 3 days of sunshine and temperatures in the 20s, I'd planned to walk all the way to the library today -- and now we have thunderstorms in the forecast. Oh. well, if it clears up I may go. 15 degrees now, and an hour and a half 'til the library opens.

With mine, I can't eat certain foods a week before (no nuts or seeds) ,then the day before no solid food. Here, the prep is always done at home, you take a laxative, then drink a liquid (powder dissolved in water). Then it's lots and lots of clear fluids (no red or purple) to wash out the colon. By the time you arrive at the hospital, your colon is cleaned out completely.

Colonscopies save lives. My mom had never had one - she had other tests but her cancer was at the top end and missed for this reason (it would have been caught with a colonscopy). She endured 2 years of chemotherapy her choice) and had 1 reccurence (this started in her early 80s ) and now is 6 years in remission at age 90 (unfortunately now has Alzheimer's). She was fairly lucky, many at stage 3 don't survive - her cancer caused a blockage and had begun to spread to the lymph nodes. Prior to my mom, there was no family history (no cancer in her family of any kind.)

Since my mom's experience, our govt here (Ontario, Canada) has a voluntary screening program for everyone over 50 in an attempt to bring down the death rate. Too many people skip getting a colonscopy, colon cancer is far worse but if detected early, it is quite treatable.

I think change of scene, being off work, body and brain relaxing into a vacation (think "vacating") state, may be having a positive effect on @jjraak for blood sugars.

No offense taken at all, @jjraak. I'm very evangelical about colonscopies because of our family's experience and too often people are embarrassed to think about them, discuss them or have them because it's "that part" of the body.

Hugs to you, Alzheimer's is a terrible disease.

I would say the question is not really answerable without knowing how hard you are working in terms of lowering carbs. Walking is obviously good but there is a saying - you can't out exercise a bad diet. In terms of outcomes, the trend is rising so in an ideal world you would want to stabilise or reverse that. Not sure that is helpful. One simple rule of thumb may be to keep post meal rises to under 2 points for sure and ideally as close to 0 as possible 1-1.5 is a target. What are your rises now?

Change of topic. Mauser 7.92mm is a well-known rifle cartridge, as is (Lee-Enfield) .303 British. Are you a shooter of vintage rifles?
