What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.5mmols at 7:45. I had a dreadful nights sleep

@Peanut234 Doesn't matter what time you get up but wash you hands and test within 10 mins of that time. Dawn phenomenon kicks in for most of us and BG starts to rise.

Absolutely tipping it down here, looks like we’re going to have a soggy doggy walk!
Have a marvellous Monday everyone x

What is your going to bed levels and how long before bed to you take your last fast acting insulin? I am always nervous about the sugar levels dropping in my sleep? I now take 500mg Metformin twice per day and its dramatically improved my blood sugar levels. My average Glucose level was 9 mmol /L for the past 27 days and my estimated A1C 56 mmol /L for same period. Problem is i have no idea how good that is in the real world. I use the Freestyle Libra 2 app to get that info btw. its amazing how much freedom you gain with it. ( less stress about where your at sugar wise when out and about )

Libre 7.2
CodeFree meter 6.7 - I’ll take that! ;)

I notice some members only record their readings after they have been out of bed a while, done exercise etc.
I thought it was a “Feet-on-the-floor” reading - in other words, as soon as you wake up and your feet touch the floor. I have a container of water and a clean hand towel near my bed to enable this.
Comments, please?

EDIT: I have just seen responses to @Peanut234 which answer my question. Sorry!

I'm also an owl; my schedule runs fairly close to yours. Apart from tea and a coffee with cream, I rarely consume anything before midday, if then, sometimes not until 3pm, because I'm just not hungry. Dinner is usually sometime between 8 and 10pm (fortunately, my OH is also an owl, so no problems there). I've been low-carbing for about six months and only now am I seeing morning readings in the sixes and low sevens. Apparently, they're the last readings to start dropping.
Hello @Dancing Badger Congratulations on persevering with a low carb lifestyle and reducing your FBG readings to sixes and low sevens.

There's disagreement in everything in medicine, but the consensus is to eat no later than three hours before bedtime. Of course dinner at 10.30 pm may be better than no dinner if you're type 2 diabetic!

Eating earlier in the evening (along with low-carbing obviously} is one approach that has worked wonders for some of us here. Why not give it a try after Christmas? What have you got to lose?

Hi @Jock Andrew and welcome to the forum. We're pleased you could join us.
It's good to hear metformin works for you and that you're getting along well with the Freestyle Libra 2 app.

I expect a type 1 member will be along shortly to answer your question about fast acting insulin, but you may want to post in the type 1 subforum as well for more replies.

Erm, @LivingLightly, I believe you mean bring it forward to 17:00? Yeah, I’m a pedant  .
Hello @Estragon. I'm all for pointing out mistakes (I can be pedantic myself) but in this case I'm happy with my answer.

If you read the OP cited, my suggestion that dinner could be brought forward from 20.00 (usually 19.30) to 19.00 should make sense.

Thanks for reading.

HI Everyone. Thankyou very much for all the feedback about testing times and meal times:) very useful.
I was testing after taking the kids to school but before exercise and breakfast. Not anymore. Will test after extracting myself from bed!
