What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Pleased to hear you are doing better @DEBBIESCOTT. There are a lot of folk in our village who just cannot seem to shake the current virus, leaving them coughing and exhausted weeks later.
I am back down in the stickies (just) and aiming for the hive today despite a small tub of cottage cheese and celery at 8pm last night.

Libre 6.6
Pokey thing 6.9

Any joy with your DN regarding going back on your meds? It was this week you were going to be in contact, wasn’t it?
Taken bloods. It all depends on if my Hba1c has gone up from september reading of 45.shes phoning me on tuesday but I will call docs tomorrow for results.

I did cold turkey on many things, including sugar in the last 14 years. My recent cold turkey was for coffee. IMHO, it takes about a month or so to get use to your new alternative, or just go without it! Thanks for the conversation!
Hi Omar51.
You are a massive inspiration , with your disciplined low BG readings. Very well done .
Just like to say from my side of the fence though.......

Coffee is here to stay! Lol

Morning all

4.6 mmol on waking at 6.00 this Thursday morning.
Take care everyone and stay safe.

Excellent!

You too.

I won’t post my fbg as been on a night shift. So will do later.

Just a quick update on speaking to the doctor, as mentioned in conversation yesterday.

Spoke to the doctor in my surgery who’s specialist interest is in diabetes and from the off it was clear they had me down as a time waster, they were very brash, rude and we ended up actually arguing for a bit, had a bit of a dust up! They said that I need educating on diabetes because it was categorically useless to be taking finger prick tests as it is not needed and that diabetes is all about eating and to stop eating so much (might have a point in there somewhere but lol) and that the information I’m getting to be taking my sugars is worthless... all I need to do is eat sensible, shut up and keep taking the tablets, then get a blood test in 3 months. The actual.words.used. looooool.

Despite my protestations and mentioning the dietician thought it was a great idea to get an idea of what I'm doing, and how it helped before, the conversation was going nowhere. I mean even if that’s their 'informed' opinion, which they are entitled to I guess, however I might question it, the bedside manner was amazing. Was like speaking to basil fawlty. I’m glad I’m not a sensitive type, and prefer bluntness and honesty on the whole if the message is sound, I found it quite funny though, I know I shouldn't cause some people would or maybe have walked away crying from a conversation like that.

Guess they could have been having a bad day, and I have to consider that I am possibly wasting their time. What a way to speak to your patients though, makes you wonder why some people would be put off.

Low carb was the answer for me before so I think I already know the question.

and @Ashybang. Same here. I seldom drink tea and never touch cola drinks containing caffeine, but hope I never have to give up my morning espresso after breakfast. I love the aroma during preparation and that fix of caffeine, especially during this bitterly cold weather.

Currently, I've no evidence it affects my post breakfast BGs, Cappuccinos are a different matter, but that's not coffee per se. You can pour an awful lot of lactose (milk sugar) into a cup of coffee made with milk., coffee with double cream being a safer option.

Hi @ravensmitten. I suppose s/he is entitled to their opinion, but there are ways of saying things. What a way to speak to patients!

Wish you success with changing your way of eating. You've done it before and, barring illness or injury, I know you can do it again.

Definitely, even if they thought it was totally unnecessary and I need to wait, I was seeking advice not belittlement.

The funny thing was they sidestepped a few of my questions when they said their informed opinion was better than my uninformed opinion, like we are playing a game, so I played along and asked if it was more informed than the dieticians? :wacky:

also I like to use the analogy of a map, in that how can you know where you are going if you don't know where you are currently?

aaaanyway, I'll cut the chat down, don't want to take over the thread.

Thank you for the vote of confidence, and well wishes I've actually made a start by eating a bunch of celery and some nice crunchy cheddar left over from Christmas for my "evening" meal today, so already made a start before any of that nonsense. We will see what happens in time I guess. :)

Have lovely days all

Morning All another 8.0 and I am wondering if I am fighting off a lurgy while sharing the house with OH who has a really nasty chest infection. Can’t come up with anything else. @ravensmitten you are a saint to put up with that nonsense and attitude of your doctor. Follow your own best instincts. @Ashybang keep going you will get there, just weeks ago you were seriously ill. @RosemaryJackson you are fighting back! Big hugs to everyone.

Morning @Welshman1952. I prescribe another birding session, weather permitting.
Oh doctor, if you insist!!

I just found out that avocet have just arrived locally. Very seldom seen in North Devon, so I'm off to find it, along with glossy ibis and a possible spoonbill. Wish me luck
