Thank @ziggy_w for Birthday wishes. I did have a good trip. I like visiting the city. My visits are brief, but I like it that way now because I can sleep in my own bed at the end of the day.Good morning all. My blood sugars today were 4.8.
Friends, I would just like to share something that happened to me yesterday. I met a colleague, who is a Type 2 on insulin. We had last talked sometime about 9 months or a half a year ago, when he asked about my weight loss and I told him that the reason for this was diabetes and subsequently going on a low-carb diet. Back then, I had a feeling he just wasn't interested in finding out more about low-carb.
Yesterday, when I walked by his classroom, he rushed towards me with a smile and reported that he had gone on a low-carb diet, had come of a insulin about 10 days later and lost 30 kg. He said his Hba1c is now better than it had ever been on insulin.
I really have to say these news made my day. Couldn't help smiling all day.
Happy belated birthday, @Ixarix. Hope you had a fun day in Toronto in spite of the appointment.
@dogslife -- hopefully they find that everything is fine. Am keeping my fingers crossed.
@Bubbsie -- hope you get the results you want. Good luck!
I have epilepsy which I've been managing seizure free for almost fifteen years. I've been seeing the same neurologist every year for years now. How this was my first time seeing her as a diabetic. I have some weakness in my legs, which was present prior to going into the hospital. I actually think they're a little better, and getting stronger. But my neurologist performed a through exam, and she was concerned enough to refer my to enough specialist whose a top expert in her field here in Toronto. So I will be seeing her ASAP.Hi lxarix Happy belated birthday greetings to you
Although I am not aware of your reasons to visit your neurologist I do hope you have a good outcome from it all.
So seeing how Toronto has changed and seeing interesting places is what makes holidays and short breaks more enjoyable,we always get out there and see has many things and places has we can when we go away. I love to experience how people get around and the different villages and buildings, train and bus journeys take you places you would not usually see on holidays.
Although I understand your visit was not a holiday has such you seem to have seen it in a different way sometimes we take things for granted, then it's like a light bulb switching on and the places we visited has changed in so many ways. Take care and enjoy life. Kathleen

Toronto has grown so much, I don't like driving around it as much as I use to. We were lucky to leave the city, and head home well a head of the really heavy traffic during rush hour.
Thanks for the well wishes Kathleen.![]()
I live in North Bay, Ontario, Canada which is about three hours north of Toronto. I'm about five hours behind most of you in the U.K. Population of North Bay is 50k approximately. I turned, 44 last Tuesday. I feel older this year because of whatI went through health wise. But still up beat about things.Hi lxarix sorry to here of your epilepsy but you have managed it extremely well to have had no seizures in fifteen years, my niece has both types gran mal and petite mal 18 months ago whilst coming home from taking children to school she had 29 fits one after the other she hasn't had great health since. But she doesn't let it get her down too much,I say good on her.
Whatever treatment your on its controlling it so again I say good on you.
Forgive me for asking but do you live in Norwich England or do you live in Canada I ask has I'm sure I've seen a mention of Norwich somewhere in your messages. And what numbered birthday was it, hope that's not too personal,I blame everything on my age I just ask it's not being overly nosey or is it,I'm just past my three score years and ten but certainly don't feel it Take care Best Wishes too you. Kathleen
Hi Freema you will probably be able to answer my question if a slight increase of BG after a meal occasionally is ok or not.
I'm 4 pounds off the weight I'm aiming for, been on LCHF for last year now trying to re -introduce a few more carbs back into my meals i.e.:- slice of bread couple of potato, not loads but obviously too much carbs on my evening meal yesterday usually in the 5s and 6s range throughout the day. K
Congratulations on your weight loss too!
Yoi take care mr dእንኳን ደህና መጡ አርብ አርብ ጥዋት. I do believe it's Friday wahahaheeeyyy and today we are back on the diabetic whackamole game, this time with a twist. Some kind soul gave the ballet to the mole and every time I stick my head out from under the duvet the mole belts me one good and proper. I have 3 large lumps on my head and my waking blood sugars are 3.0mmols. Half a bottle of Lucozade and 2 paracetamol are the order of the morning before I walk the little blond terrorist.
Freema...I think the acceptable ranges for BG levels must be different throughout Europe?...here in the UK an HbA1c of 34mmols would put you in non-diabetic range...giving you an average BG level of approximately 5.3...of course we will get the odd spike after food...but...its how well out bodies cope with that...of course testing will only give us an approximation of our levels at the time we test... and is not as accurate as the HbA1c...however with an HbA1c of 34mmols...I'd say your control is excellent.we all have individual goals, my weight is going in the wrong direction at the moment which is why I am trying to go back to the initial successfull eating style ; rather low fat and low carb and few calories... it seems I gain weight very easily from eating high-fat foods... but I have also been bad and not able to go really low carbs so guess the reason is the combination..
well my numbers are seldome under 5.5 mmol and even then my HbA1c is only 34... so if high spiking is okay , I think must be a judgement of ones whole scenario... but what I learned at the diabetes course here in Denmark is that a rise of 2 mmol from what the number was right before the meal is okay and a fine goal to strive for......., well that was the official advice..
but the spiking in itself seems to be damaging too.... so we all have individually to find out at what level we can cope and how high we´ll accept our spiking to be... I don´t care that much myself... but maybe that will backfire in the long run when it comes to the bad progress of this evil disease.
have a read in this link http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14045678.php
Love the drive and the thought of being in London...being a Londoner born & bred I know it so well...en route makes me feel so nostalgic...however...after a couple of hours there (nowadays mainly for work)...I have to get out...sold up in London about four years ago...moved to the countryside...missed London so much thought we'd made a mistake...now...would never want to live there permanently again...noisy...expensive...crowded...wonder how I put up with it for so long!I love the drive down to Toronto. Lots of small towns to pass by, along with all the restaurants, service stations, businesses, and homes. Plus the lakes, and forest.

I was just about to say WOW...that is a lot of carbs...then realised I never really count the number of total carbs I eat throughout the day...just stick to roughly food that is around 5% carbs per 100% of food...although I am sure it's nowhere near your 200-300gms per day...as you say it must be the exercise contributing to your good control...just shows you how diet is very much an individual matter for each diabetic...had a look at the chart you posted...shows your control is excellent...the conversion chart I use would indicate you are at 34mmols well within non-diabetic range...I am aiming for non-diabetic range at my next review (fingers crossed)...managed to reduce my Metformin (with GPs approval) about 8 months ago...now 500gms once daily...while the prospect of managing with diet & exercise only is daunting ...ultimately that is what I am aiming for...I would say your waking number at 6.3 is fine...the waking numbers are usually the last to come down...overall your control seems optimal...give yourself some credit.Yes I usually never measure my bloods in the nights and also not in the afternoons , there must be hours in my day where my blood glucose is lower . I do eat a lot of carbs though like 200-300 grams a day , But exercise really a lot and try to build muscle , I Think my exercising gives me space to my carb-eating and also lowers my blood-glucose spikings faster than most diabetics
Still I am not cured and if and when I am not any longer allowed to take metformin my numbers will at least be in the pre-diabetic level if not in the diabetic level
This morning my number is 6.3 at 8:00
