What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

5.7 this morning exactly 1 higher than after evening meal and bedtime. Some bizzare readings yesterday ending the day 1.1 below start which has never happened according to my mosnter spreadsheet going back to July 8 2015! Also checked ketones with ketone meter and they were @ 1.5 so good. I do have my only slight cold of the winter which always raises fbg but pattern is just odd.
The whole episode has driven me to drink Mango and Lychee Green Tea - a real mystery as according to Twinings it is actually air 0 cals, carbs, protein. sugar etc!

Edit earlier version stated exactly 12 higher - now that is truly bizzare!

This is the best its been for quite a while. Just takes so much willpower regards food consumption. I sometimes think my stomach overrules my brain. Its sure complicated.

I agree that ones internal organs have chats without our knowledge. I think my brain has told my liver that I’m not intending to have breakfast so it’s dumped an exorbitant amount of glucose out there.
Can’t think of any other explanation

7.0 this morning!
Bah

@ianpspurs I hope your mango and lychee tea does the trick.

@Granny_grump_ I feel your pain: my evening meal was similar. First time I’ve allowed myself a small amount of carrot and mashed swede with Sunday roast. No spud though. I didn’t get a spike afterwards ( only 0.3 rise) so was quite chuffed and went to bed happy.
It’s infuriating isn’t it?

I think you're right, but this link really helped me when considering IF and morning sugars - as I too get higher morning readings when I dabble with fasting: https://www.dietdoctor.com/the-dawn-phenomenon. "The Dawn Phenomenon, or higher blood sugars during fasting does not mean you are doing anything wrong. It’s a normal occurrence. It just means that you have more work to do."

Not as bad as some fruits, 40g of blueberries contain 6g of carbs, 80g of strawberries have 5g of carbs.
@Granny_grump_ and @philchap1 according to Waitrose website, essential frozen raspberries have 4.9 gms carbs per 100 gms and 4.4 gms fibre hence my use of them with flaxseed (golden linseed) for the excellent movement properties! (A tip I picked up from here in 2015.) Morrisons has them @ 4.6 gms per 100 gms. Now planting long row of raspberries but strawberry bed is still going strong. 2 years running I have had fresh ones in October.

Morning everyone....6.0 at 10.40 am.....very late testing today....I slept well until 10. 30, must have been all the activity with the Zimmer frame yesterday! How I admire those Paralympic athletes, wish I had half their determination!:)

@ianpspurs I use frozen mixed fruit from Tesco,raspberries,blue berries,blackberries,Greek yoghurt and double cream,which doesn't cause a spike.
.They have a "less than perfect fruit" version which is cheap.I haven't tried flax seed this may help with the problems caused with the pain relief I'm on.
I hadn't realised that flaxseed is laxative...always something new to learn!

Thanks for taking the time to reply with this helpful link. Jason Fung is fast becoming my hero. I bought his book The Obesity Code recently: its fascinating reading.
I guess the answer is just to keep on keeping on and not try to overanalyse.

Just out of interest how long did it take all you lovely people with nice low fbgs to get there? I’ve been low carbing for a couple of months and hoped I’d be out of the water by now. Am I being unrealistic?

I'm reading that too - it's great isn't it? I've also pre-ordered his The Diabetes Code, out beginning of April (I sound like his pr team!).

I would also love to know this - I think @Bluetit1802 said on another thread that it can take a long time.
