I haven’t heard There but for fortune since way back when, sung by my teenage crush, the song used to haunt me. I’ve just reminded myself of the lyrics and as you say the last verse is so relevant to today it could have been written this year.Joan Baez singing the Phil Ochs song There but for Fortune, The last verse is particulary poignamt in light of the current situation.
We all like different things @Annb thank god, or there would be no art of any kind .Country music for me - probably because it reminds me of my husband - he loved it.
Scottish traditional music as well.
And I like old fashioned carols at Christmas - very cheering in the dark winter days.
All very low brow, I know, but there it is.
Lovely sound of the hang drum.....Dead can Dance Opium well just about anything from them really.
Thanks for those videos. My favourite version of the Green Fields... is by the Pogues and is a much rougher sound. That song can still bring tears to my eyes. I have to say, my own version of Ae fond kiss is my favourite - I used to sing it for my husband in his sick bed. Eddi Reader makes a pretty good job of it though. I'd never taken note of the Fields of Athelny but there is a version by the Dubliners that is worth listening to. But then, there aren't many tracks by the Dubliners that I don't enjoy. Stuck in the past - that's me.Ae fond kiss .
And green fields of France
Which reminded me of fields of athenry
Sang with passion, if not as melodiously as other versions
..truly One World, One Love
Apologies, just noted no sound under forum since update.

Sacrilege almost, but I think that is the better version personally.I was taliking to my Blue Care nurse yesterday, and the S&G Sounds of Silence was playing in the background. She said that she had heard the best cover of the song by a group called 'Disturbed".
I had to agree with her as I liked it staight way when the version was incorporated in an episode of the television show "Blacklist".
Distubed - Sounds of Silence
Never heard of Clamavi De Profundis before. Neither am I familiar with Tolkein's work (just never wanted to read it, or watch video/film of it). The singers sound Irish as does that particular tune. Are they? I really enjoyed it. Thanks for putting that up.Today I was thinking of The Lord of The rings .
And playing a track from Clamavi De Profundis the Lament for Boromir.
