The man who created insulin?

Most know Frederick Banting and Charles Best as the co-creators of insulin. But one man was left fuming after he was dismissed in 1923 by the Nobel Prize committee.

Nicolae Paulescu, a Romanian scientist, claimed to have created insulin (which he called pancreine) in 1916, and was awaiting confirmation of his patent when his claims of priority were rejected.

"I have spent a lot of time collecting information from Diabetes.co.uk. When I found Diabetes.co.uk I had access to research reports, authoritative summaries (a recent one on sleep patterns has been influential; I now turn off all screens and read before bed every night), the Diabetes Forum and, of course, the Low Carb Program. The website has re-educated me: people's experiences, honestly reported, are very reassuring."
