What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Several months - just looked at my spreadsheet. Looks like about 8 months after I started testing (which wasn’t immediately after diagnosis). To be honest, it’s the pre and post meal readings that are most important.

I remember starting insulin and lowering my carbs -it was only in May after years of meds and victoza . I was expecting /anticipating an almost immediate change but reality hit when I had days in the 8s and 9s im still learning everyday about the nuances of lowering carbs and Bg readings and insulin yesterday’s readings for example 3.9 at 4 pm 8.4 at bedtime.

Good morning all. No sunshine here, snowed overnight and freezing. Can't believe that officially tomorrow is the start of spring :arghh:.

@DJC3 and @eggs11 -- For me it took more than half a year before fasting blood sugars started normalizing. I have to admit I didn't self-monitor back then, but during my first two quarterly blood tests, fasting blood sugars were about 9 mmol -- albeit after a vigorous 20 minute walk to the surgery. So, I assume that fbgs were elevated for the entire period of time. In spite of this, HbA1cs were in the non-diabetic range. So in the bigger picture, higher fbgs don't seem to matter tremendously. This being said, I agree with @bluetit that normalized fbgs are a sign that our body has healed to some extent and insulin resistance has improved.

Fasting blood sugars were 5.1 this morning.

Thanks @ziggy_w - that really is good to know as I woke to 6.6 today - I have been skipping breakfast last couple of days and it does seems to result in higher morning readings - just got to keep at it and not worry about it.

5.6 this morning so receding inch by inch;) agree that fbg is just one part in the bigger picture. What it does do for me is alert me before hand to illness or failed changes to routine. Of course, although I would give other people wise counsel, my nearest and dearest would tell y'all I react very differently when I miss my own targets:dummy:

@eggs11 When we fast overnight my BG raises it's the liver dump, check my posts on BG this morning and 6.5 4am then at 8am
it was 5.6 and this seems to be my pattern but has I've said my Hba1C was 40 at my review,so has long has I keep doing what I'm doing i.e.: fasting over night and skipping a meal breakfast it seems to be working overall.
If you check others who skip a meal and intermittent fasting the morning BG is usually raised.! K

4 stone - that's brilliant! I have now lost nearly 2 stone but have plateaued the last few weeks - I need to refocus on the weight loss and not over test my blood sugars right now, which I have been doing a bit, as I think it's like weighing yourself too often - got to think of the long game, not fret too much over day to day fluctuations.

@eggs11 So true, but very hard to detach oneself from the process "its the hope that kills!" You can push too hard to hit targets short term then find your body says, "where do you think you're going in a hurry, I set the pace here" Naturally, sage advice from me is directed entirely at everyone else but myself:angelic:

True! You've reminded me of John Cleese in Clockwise, "It's not the despair, I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand."
