Gone through that, the low carb diets, I say what the heck I started on the diet twenty years ago, then went onto the tablets now I am on insulin 44 units in the morning and 44 units at tea, and am averaging 8.00mm, I have my 2 Wetbix , 2 Pieces of toast with marmalade, and a cup of expresso, live your life now trying to gain a couple in later years is foolish
Wow, that's double digit amounts of sugar per meal even using the misleading method of "added sugar" (should take total carbs and divide by 4, for the real sugar amount). It is possible to potentially get the extra years of life, minimal or no complications with great tasting varieties of food, and for me a better chance at health, vitality and less medical intervention in the last say 10 years.

Well AFM seems to be offsetting it with insulin so as long as his levels are managed, he can continue with his weetabix and toast and enjoy his life.

That's fine for him. In the context of the OP's question it would fulfil the nice tasting aspect, others can decide if these choices would be good for their Type 2.

Breakfast is usually the most difficult for most diabetics. The choice for myself resulted as follows:- For more years than I can remember I had two Weetabix (UK) with milk and sugar (yes, a boring fellow I know) because I just wanted petrol for the engine but then came the shock of being diagnosed. Obviously stopped the sugar immediately but, as everyone on this Forum (in those days) said bananas are good for you replaced the sugar with said banana. Then I became the proud possessor of a One Touch Ultra meter - horror upon horror - that combination took me to 17 most mornings. Then I learned that some of you cannot even look at a banana without your sugars skyrocketing!! Stopped the banana and tested with just two Weetabix biscuits - down came my BS to a more reasonable level but still too high. Experimented with low calcium milk and just ONE Weetabix. Result almost respectable readings. Then I came to Bali and Weetabix became Weetbix - same exercise but with worse readings. I continued in this manner for a few years until about 12 months ago when I read an article about Starbucks main breakfast being PORRIDGE and had been its main serving for the past 8 years. Then went to Google and low and behold found that porridge for countless reasons was one of the best food for us humans from so many gurus and medical specialists that I thought so many eminent persons cannot be wrong especially as cholesterol and sugars were mentioned so many times
.
The result - for the past year my blood sugars two hours after breakfast have averaged <7 which for me is astounding. and only affected if I had been naughty the night before. Moral of this long missive is that do not believe all that you read - try each food for yourself and do not think Weetabix is the same as Weetbix, for example.

By the way - DO NOT - pay too much attention to Metformin (Glucophage) being the solution for a Type 2's woes because it is not - I came off Metformin after learning that it was contra-indicated with Congestive Heart Failure and all other heart conditions the same time I started on porridge AND HAVE NEVER FELT BETTER. Similar as to when I took myself off Statins.

But if as he says his average levels are 8 mmol/l then I don't think he is managing his Type 2 especially well.
Maybe the weetabix and toast aren't such a great idea after all.
Thoughts @AFM ?

Just to jog everyone's memory... ;)

Those with the status of bolusing for what one eats does not meet the OP's request suggestions, taking the thread in the wrong direction.
To avoid detection &/or further deletion, lets keep some adhesion to the topic in question...

Double thanks in advance..

Professor Kealey CURED his own T2D by following the information and advice in his book. I was merely trying to give the member that same option. How is that so reprehensible?

Hi @Madge 2 ,

Good morning.

Please have a little look through the thread again, paying particular attention to the OP's managment of his condition.
& then focus on the suggestions by IDs..?

You may then wish to re-evaluate the nature of your enquiry on my action.. ;)

Regards.

Sorry, I have no idea what you mean. What are OPs and IDs? On second thoughts, please don't waste time replying, I find these forums far too confusing and difficult to manage to bother with them any more. I shall cancel my membership. Goodbye

Avocado and bacon ... Mmm. We buy cooked strips in tescos and add them both to salad for lunches too.

There are many kinds of oat products. Ranging from instant oat (raise bgl the fatest) to steel cut oats (the slowest). Oat bran has more fibre and lesser carb than normal oats.

Depending on your carb tolerance, you may want to try the more bg friendly type. Also, if taken before exercise body tend to tolerate carb better should you wish to take some. Use a glucometer to help u determine what is alright for u.

The abbreviation "OP" means Original Poster.
The abbreviation "ID" means Identity.

It's not confusing if you take the time to read and digest the info, and ask a question if you get stuck about something.

Avocado and cheese and bacon in a low carb wrap are pretty good as well. :D

I have a ham, cheese or mushroom omelette.
However, the all-diabetes pro cycling team, team Novo Nordisk, have porridge every morning. Their coach won't travel abroad without it.

Am I correct in thinking they are all Type 1's? Novo Nordisk being one of the companies that monetised Banting's free gift of insulin to the world and made billions?

Yup. They are all T1s on insulin, with (presumably) a great medical team in the background helping them to fine tune their training, their diets and their insulin.

Very inspiring, but a TOTALLY different situation from the T2 who started this thread and asked ‘are their any decent low carb breakfast cereals out there?’

Well I am now totally freaked out by all this info.
I am allergic to eggs so many " easy " meal options are out for me. I also cannot eat beef which is fine because I don't like it anyway.
My fav food is bread and I have other illnesses besides being T2 for which I take meds that make me nauseous all the time.
I suppose eventually I will find food that I can tolerate which is not carb dense or calorie dense, if I live long enough !
Been waiting for an NHS referral for Low Carb program but it's been two months since referral and still nothing. Can't really afford to join otherwise.
Disabled so limited by that regards exercise and very overweight.
Worried that winter warmers like casserole with dumplings are off the menu this winter.

You can certainly have a casserole, just with low carb veges, or you might like cauliflower cheese - with just cauliflower and cheese and maybe some herbs or spices for extra zing. Using swede rather than potatoes to make mash, and then bubble and squeak seems popular. I cook the swede in a pressure cooker to save time and energy.
I buy stir fry from supermarkets, available both fresh and frozen, vegetable mixtures, berry mixtures, which all help reduce waste and effort.
