Regular moderate exercise log

Oooo... How exciting! Welcome to @Goonergal @DJC3 @ianpspurs and @johnpol . And waves at anyone else who I've not seen for a bit. It's been a busy time, workwise, and whilst I've been exercising, I've not been reporting it much.

I'm happily back to my current daily walking daily targets and seem to have got it sussed (for now) with my insulin needs. Walk to work, walk part way home, (depends on sugar levels) eat, then finish up the target number of steps after I've eaten/relaxed a bit. Seems to be working on all fronts.
Waving back @Japes. Ha ha
I'm looking forward to putting my new painkillers to the test of a trip up next to a bus stop via school run. Approx. A mile on the whole journey but I'm still stopping every few yards.. at mo but now hoping to build up. Hoping for a swim on saturday, walking depending.
If painkillers are great I'll pick up more school runs until twice a day. :) :) :)
I only ask for the simple things in life, me. Ha ha.
How I took walking for granted!
Fingers crossed I'll be walking fit again very soon.
I have a physio helping, so hopefully this can be turned around. I have so much hope in walking unaided too. Let's see. I'll walk before I run, me thinks.

I don't use a hula hoop unless we get them out at work, but I do have a friend who does and swears by it as good exercise.

I was given a cheap skipping rope which was too long and annoying, and have another which visiting children use which is too small. I've ended up using rope from my camping supplies and it does me fine as I've cut it to the right length for me. Also not likely to use the camping supplies in the foreseeable future, but it has been lent out a few times so I've not got rid of it all.
I think skipping after doing balance exercises was advised on our local news, not long back.
Maybe I'll be able to come here next year and say I'm hula hooping and skipping?

I joke that I won't be happy until I'm skipping down my road... with kids in tow (as always).
I don't think I'm asking for much... but they have to tell me what's going on with my back and pelvis first. Me thinks.
Otherwise how can I partake in its improvement?
I will be forthright at my next appointment to get to know for sure my problem. I have to insist, it seems.

Morning all. Moderate cardio this morning. Static bike 1 hour average 66% max HR. 13 miles so just very steady grinding out the yards. Nice 4.1 afterwards so may have mopped up floating glucose that otherwise would have had nowhere else to go. :) Pinning lots of hope on MRI scan next week to identify a solvable problem with back/legs so I can widen and ramp up exercise. Just hope nothing bad or unsolvable crops up:eek:

Just remembered, I've got a rope somewhere Japes, nice idea

My daughtersaid she’d tried skipping again recently to aid fitness but couldn’t believe how much stronger gravity had become since she was little!
I suspect it will be even stronger in my case.

Taking it easy today - shins very sore after weekend exertions.

Pilates is scheduled for a bit later on - beginners class and very gentle. Other than that I’m at 9,000 steps as a result of daily activities should add another couple of thousand getting to and from Pilates.

Thanks @Japes and hello everybody
14,881 steps so farrrrr - ( I bought a hula hoop but mistakenly bout a weighted one- it’s too heavy and I can’t really do it.) My lovely boyfriend just suggested a walk to the shop- another 3,000 steps- he’s such a sweetie neither of us wanna do it but we’re gonna anyway. Maybe I will get out the hula hoop coz if I can master it, it’s kinda fun. Off we go .......

Well. One tablet of dihydrocodeine didn't work at keeping my pain at bay. So tried 2 like suggested.
I have to keep at every 4hrs or the effects wear off and not the best med to counteract pain but good at ignoring oncoming pain signals.

So I've walked to school, stopping twice. (4-5min walks) Then over to bus stop with 5yr old tugging so stood in agony awaiting the bus. A small similiar distance to an appointment then rest then similiar walk then rest, then another and finally final one to house. (last one in a little less pain than normal horrendous agony thou. Just.)
I think I've done too much as I'm in pain in my crutch elbow now.... Argh!
I'm pleased with my efforts but I think I was expecting more out of that med.
At dietician appointment tomorrow and little ones gp appointment on Friday.
Similiar walking needed both days.
God help me. Ha ha

Hi @ianpspurs - good to see some familiar memebers of my “ other gang” on this one too. I ended up with 18,200 - this is a good one for me. I’ve gone from an average of 2,000 at diagnosis to an average 15,000 to 20,000 a day now. Funnily enough it’s easier when I’m at work - despite having a desk job for 12 hr day- but I stride it out before I start, and during breaks - plus a short walk to and from work.

I bought a Fitbit and it reminds me to be active ( do 250 steps) per hour- it’s been very useful to have the nudges :)

I've got a simple step counter so no reminders, just have to nudge myself. Working in London today has made me slothful ..... a pathetic 6759. Tomorrow is a new day and a new number, despite the fact that I've got reports to write, the day's my own. I'm planning the swim, get on the real bike and the funny new one that doesn't move

I wasn't going to walk to work this morning after noting somewhat achy feet could do with a rest plus yesterday's mid-walk hypo which took a while to get back up again - but once up, it shot up and stayed up and I'm in double figures this morning for the first time since getting it down to acceptable levels a couple of months ago.

Sighs deeply and notes lessons.
  • Try to time stubborn hypos so there is no convenient chip shop available to provide too many carbs after too much insulin for cake followed by a walk.
  • Back to my normal carb levels today after yesterday's excesses and write a large note to self to stick to "normal" for me, not everyone else's definition of "normal." (Mind you, it's all good ammunition for the inevitable discussion with Clinic Nurse next month - see what happens when I do your "normal" and not my "normal".)

All day off-site meeting today, which means a later start for me and a gym opportunity.

Completed a 1 hour workout - 30 mins stretching/exercises for my shin splints/ abs work and 30 mins of weights. It’s a 17 minute ish brisk walk in either direction, so that serves as a warm up/down.

Trouble with exercise early in the morning (in gym by 5.40am) is the rise in BG. Woke on 4, was at 4.7 on arrival at gym and 6 immediately after workout. Expect some better numbers later today though.

@Goonergal Very impressive start and obvious results from all your hard work. "Lesson in survival.spinning out on terms that keep you tough" for me - gotta love Joni M.
Sat talking with a friend who is with us recovering from surgery yesterday for too long. BG now at alarming 5.8 so sloth really is a deadly sin. 40 mins dog walk, 30 mins strimming and only down to 5.2. So no lunch except a cup of tea 6.2k steps so far. Not a good day for bg! Exercise for 25 mins HIIT - let's see if I get anywhere now. 1 hr later 4.5 so a bit more like it. Ended up with 15000 step having gone for 50 mns walk after dinner. 5.2 after dinner so feels like bad day at the office.

Checking in gang, 17,741 steps today. I know this won’t be enough exercise at some point but just had a deliciously low reading before dinner (4.9) a first in the 4’s for me (yay me !!) so obviously the walking is enough for now

@flexi06 yay you! That’s a goodly amount of steps, and it’s doing the trick. Well done.

11,578 steps from me today.
Started the day with 25 mins moderate cycling ( static bike) which was 8.1 Km apparently. 5mins more than I’ve managed up to now.

Realised today that it will be a much less active week than usual: bank hol Monday meant no yoga. Today’s pilates instructor was away and so is tomorrow’s gym teacher so 3 hrs less exercise than normal. I really should have increased my walking or bought my skipping rope by now.
