PR SUCCESSES - GETTING THE WORD OUT THAT LCHF IS THE BEST DIET TO HELP TREAT TYPE 2 DIABETES

It's brilliant. It's been retweeted at least a couple of times already and I've tagged you in. Love it. Phenomenal.

Quick update @Debandez

Facebook posting of the article has led to a former colleague of mine reaching out to say she has Type 2 which was initially managed by diet, now on meds and she wants to chat to look at ways to get off the meds. Haven’t seen her in about 20 years, but looks like at least one concrete outcome.

And that's exactly what we want to achieve with any PR we do. If we can just help one person thats a wonderful thing. You will be a great help you are a mind of information. You will have her back on track in no time. Maybe she will join the forum. Ive no doubt your inspirational story will help so many more. Im sure the PR team will have many more things lined up for you. Brilliant news.

I have helped a few via my facebook. One lady in particular that has decided on keto has lost 12lbs in 12 days! Im talking her through low carbing, sending info etc. She is delighted with herself, and im so happy. Maybe we should do another thread on how many we are helping on our own journeys!!!! Im joking, enough threads to watch already!

Please be careful to write and say that you are posting "as someone who has been helped by the diet and that what you write is not to be taken as health professional advice or opinion. Checking with your own health professionals about the diet is always wise." Or words to that effect.
I know that risks the diet being shot down by some health professional but in promoting the diet it is important to not run foul of the health professional authorities out there who are very possessive about their 'turf' and have regulations to prevent and penalise those they consider are practising their craft unqualified and unregistered.. (yes, the world is not a fair place).

There is no way I will be telling them to check with their health care professionals about advice on the LCHF woe to be honest. My own personal experience from both my GP and my 2 x DN, told i can eat everything but just cut down on sugar, oh yes....and take these tablets, and just before you go can I confirm that this disease is progressive. On my next appointment I had fortunately discovered this forum and LCHF woe and my hba1c was on its way down to non diabetic levels where it is today but my DN still rolled her eyes when I told her how I was doing that even though im apparently the only one at my surgery to do this apart from post bariatric surgery partients. This story is repeated and repeated...and repeated...and repeated on here and many other 'reversing diabetes' sites.

What i do say to anyone i share my journey with who also wants to try lchf is 'check with your gp if you have any existing medical conditions'. Also, my details are in my signature which does however get posted at the end of any comment.

I will no doubt be ruffling many professional feathers on this journey of mine. My own GP thrust his 'don't confuse your Google with my medical degree' cup at me. Bring it on. It gets them talking to each other. Just need to get them to listen. Going to keep plugging away at that one.

Ho @Debandez, I understand your concern about those who do not understand or have not keep up to date.
Perhaps a reference to Dr Unwin's work and its success, which a patient can take along to the GP, would not go astray.
Such work puts paid to much waffle and stick-in-the-mud-ness. (? sitm for short)
"Check with your GP if you have any health conditions" sounds very apt. And something like " This is my success story. It is a personal point of view and experience, shared by others (T2Ds on this site etc). It is not professional advice or opinion."
Stops the nit picking quacks. (apologies to all ducks).

I have seen doctors red in the face and spitting as they pour scorn on eating low carb. I have been threatened with being taken into hospital and 'fed properly' if I did not comply with their instructions to eat carbs - I have learned to lie and not react when told what to eat.
I started low carbing in the early 1970s, it has been a rough ride.

It's just so wrong! Things are going to change but it will take time. You went through the mill!

SO I EMAILED MP TOM WATSON LAST WEEK. AND GOT A REPLY TODAY. HE IS USING A PR MACHINE TO SPREAD THE WORD. IT SUCH A POSITIVE REPLY I THOUGHT IT WAS APT TO SHARE ON HERE.

Hi Debra

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with me and share your story and your blog.

It's great that you've become an advocate for weight loss and the effect it has had on your type 2 diabetes.

I can only say what worked for me as this tough journey is different for everyone. It has taken me one year for others it may take 5 years or more. I wanted to share my story with others to get people talking about the issue and raise awareness. I felt that setting realistic goals and giving myself rewards kept me motivated. I rewarded myself with small things for my old bicycle which had the mothballs blown off when I was ready to exercise . I have enjoyed every bit of getting fit again.

I now want to use my personal experience to help develop policies that can really make a difference to people’s lives. I don’t have all the answers. That’s why I’ve set up an independent commission to look at all the hard evidence and experience from people like you. We are in the early stages of planning,

I’ve been so touched to receive so many messages of support. It is amazing to hear how much me coming out and talking about my experience has inspired people.

I'm going to be working much more on this issue in the months to come . It would help me if I could keep in touch with my progress and maybe once we have some concrete ideas ask you your view?

Thank you again for getting in touch.

Best wishes

Tom

Just sharing another bit of good news. Not sure which thread to post on but this one seems to fit the bill quite well.

After handing in 2 weeks ago the inspirational stories booklet, blood sugar testing leaflet, 100 stone lost and we all kicked diabetes into remission doc and low carb recipe booklet to my GP surgery marked for everyone's attention (all GPs, DNs, paramedic practitioners, nurses listed - but addressed to the 2 x DNs) i received a positive email today, after sending an email to one of the DNs yesterday thanking her for putting me forward for the PPG (trying to prompt a reply re the info dropped off to be honest). I told her that I had attended my first meeting and had enjoyed it.

Dear Debra

Delighted you enjoyed so much - thank you. So glad you are able to be involved.

Also to inform you that I have read your information you left for us and currently it is being circulated.

Many thanks

******

My reply was as follows:

Thank you for your reply ******

I'm so happy to hear the info is being circulated. I would be very interested to get any feedback. I don't want to take up a valuable appointment time, what do you suggest? I know how precious your time is.

Thanks again
Debra

I will keep you informed!
@xfieldok good luck for tomorrow
@Rachox I hope you hear something soon

I got a reply from Tom Watson too, similar to yours @Debandez , but obviously personalised. It was good to see, that he wasn’t just copying and pasting the same to everyone :)

That is so good to read @Rachox his heart is definitely in it, as are all ours. So glad you got a prompt response too :-) let's see what he can do.

Morning @Debandez two exciting pieces of news this morning. Another former colleague, this time from America, has emailed me saying a mutual colleague of ours forwarded the i article to her and she’s asking for details! And on Twitter, I also tweeted about Keto ending my migraines and tagged in my former consultant (he’s a real bigwig in the headache world) and he’s just followed me!

If your consultant is smart, he'll get himself a copy of Dr Angela Stanton's book and read it ;)

Fantastic! Not just 1 but 2 exciting pieces of news to wake up to! It's reached America! Another person asking for help. You will be able to fit that bill well. We should maybe think of setting up a starter pack.

And tagging in your consultant letting them know that keto cured your migraines was genius. And he is following you to learn more and help himself gain knowledge. I love that. Thanks for sharing @Goonergal

Have a great day.

Well I'm a little excited. There is a chance that i will be on BBC breakfast tv this Saturday morning.

This goes out to 7 million viewers!

It surrounds the story of Mike's bench (see link below). I was one of the many who wrote to Elizabeth. I wrote to her in January, just as I was trying to get my head around my t2d diagnosis and working on a way to reverse it. It involved lots of walking around this beautiful park, and sitting on Mike's bench for a breather! And constantly taking photos from there as its just a magical spot.

She has personally invited me to the BBC filming tomorrow. There are 2 stories being told and if they can fit in 3 I'm going to be that number!!! Mike's bench is an amazing space. In such a beautiful park. It's a sad story with a happy ending. Much the same as many of ours.

Mike's bench inspired me to ask if anyone on the forum wanted to send me their stories. And the end product (still a work in progress) is our powerful inspirational stories booklet. I really hope they can interview 3. I will be the one frantically waving our booklet around and talking about how we have regained control of our health by LCHF and lost weight too!

Keep your fingers crossed.
