We do not have DST in Queensland, West Australia and the Northern Territories, it is only practised in southern states.

Years ago we had a few trials of DST in Mt Isa, It was still light at 10:00 pm in the evening. After the Queensland state government referendum was held in the early 90's and the "No to DST" vote was 51% plus, that was it no more stupidity messing with time.

Here's a poem that circulated around Mt Isa at the time which said it all.

1990 Thoughts On Daylight Saving.

'twas Mr Goss from Brisbane Town that caught the daylight craze.
and turned away the good old hours that served us many days.
He dressed himself in God-like clothes and spake unto his flock,
"I have the power I see a need, I'm going to change the clock!"

Like King Canute in years gone by he meddled with the time,
and ne'r before in this great state has there been such a crime.
See Queensland's not a tiny state we have a big backyard,
and what is fine for city folks hits country people hard.

There's folk up north and in the west away from Brisbanes smoke,
with climates vastly different there ...this daylight schemes no joke.
Let's hope that Mr. Premier Goss and all his cohorts too,
enjoy their evening game of golf and social barbeque.

They'll spend long summer evenings out jogging in the park,
it doesn't worry them you see that we arise in the dark.
See... way out here Mt. Isa way we'll get a double score,
we gain an hour by longitude and now you give us more.

So when it's time for Children's bed the clock says half past eight,
."But it's still light I cannot sleep!" in the far west of the state.
'Twas Mr. Goss from Parliament, that sought his own abode,
and didn't really seem to care... for people up the road.

But he's quite big on Slip, Slop, Slap! and always wear a hat,
and now School's out at Two O'clock, where's the sense in that?
Our tropic sun is pretty fierce, I'm sure that you'll agree,
why send our Kid's out into that at two instead of three?

The City folk complain and moan, in tones quite sad and surly,
The solution is quite plain to see, why don't you get up early?
And if it seems you can't do that... declare a Daylight Zone,
but only for you Mob down there, and please leave us alone.

Or let us go on Territory time, with our friends across the fence,
no Daylight Saving over there they use their common sense.
So Mr Goss the choice is yours, with one stroke of your pen,
it seems that you hold all cards on what we do and when!

You must have thought of all these things, you say you did your best,
but did you listen to our voice... the people of the West?
'Twas Mr. Goss from Far Down South, who would not comprehend,
there's more to this Great State of ours than Queen Street and West End!

Darryl Cooper, Mt. Isa 4825, October 1990.

Edit: To many which's.
