What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Now I could live with that too since red cabbage is yet another of previously hated foodstuffs that I now crave and love. Still no love for peanut butter though.
Braised red cabbage was always a family favourite and I very much like peanut butter but rarely eat any - we did try to make our own. Grandchildren are either in Southampton or Suffolk unfortunately - annoying thing is I heard it drop on the mat, went through leaves handful by handful but no luck. If I find it I may need it altered - finding a jeweller may be fun though.

Hope it turns up!

Decided on a fasting day today as it’s been a while since I’ve done one. (I don’t class drinks as fasting. Probably wrong but hey ho) So no food to report. Just 3 cuppas and definitely treating myself to a coffee shortly. Hiding away upstairs doing coursework while the other half cooks dinner, as I’m at that stage where I’m a little peckish and know if I see food I’ll cave in. So giving them an hour to eat and get tidied up as by then I’ll be drained from all the reading and have no desire to make myself anything anyway :angelic:

Good luck with the coursework. Not sure I would ever have tried fasting and studying "back in the day" would have seemed deranged but might make sense now

I hope you find your ring, I often find mine slipping when I’m washing up etc so I think I need to get it altered before I have to go rooting through rubbish or drains ;)

@ianpspurs i do hope you find your wedding ring all my rings are very loose and are now held on my ring finger by a smaller ring at the top that I got from an antique shop - it works! As you say sounds like you should get it altered once you find it.
@Emma_369 good luck with your coursework I’ve often used work to distract myself from not eating it helps I find.
Hope everyone has had a good Monday - I’ve been working my way through a big jobs list to be continued tomorrow.
Breakfast one slice bacon and egg
Lunch celery, cheese and a few nuts
Dinner lamb chop with celeriac chips and mushroom sauce followed by raspberry clafoutis with cream.

Evening all
@ianpspurs hope you find your wedding ring - Mr C’s was lost forever on Slapton sands on our honeymoon.
@Emma_369 well done on your fast especially if you’ve been home all day.

My fasting was more feeble - skipped breakfast but couldn’t manage to skip lunch too. Made a sort of Scotch broth in IP with leftover lamb from yesterday’s roast with IP chicken stock, and some spuds and carrots for Mr C. Its was very tasty but would have been even nicer with pearl barley.

Dinner was loin of pork wrapped in bacon and some rosemary, quick mushroom sauce ( fried mushrooms with a dollop of cream and cream cheese)
celeriac mash and roast broccoli. 2 glasses of red ( so far)

Enjoy the rest of your evening all.

Hi all, nice day here until about 4.30 then we had a very heavy shower. Work wise ok however tomorrow is the dreaded day when I have to travel with my difficult colleague!
Coffee with cream on waking
B was a very strange one as I was trying to eat things I had that I know other half won’t eat while I’m away so had a piece of low dough quiche
L cauliflower soup and salami crisps
Peanut milk cappuccino when I got home
D again using up some foods rather than have them go to waste so I’ve had cauli and celeriac mash, buttered kale and bacon wrapped asparagus lol

Mr B took his Ma Morrison’s shopping this morning.
Came back with a duck! Yay!
And a lump of Wensleydale and cranberries. That was my 11ses/breakfast. Oops!

Then snack lunch was leftover chicken liver in garlic butter from a couple of days ago...

And we’ve just got back from a pub meal (celebrating Mr B’s only day off in nearly 3 weeks).
I had 15oz steak and not a single fragment of onion, lettuce, mushroom or chip. Not even a cubic millimetre.
I feel like my halo is blindingly shiny. But the reality is I am still running scared from that joint pain I had after eating potato twice in a week. I couldn’t drive for a couple of days. That is no way to live, for anyone, but when avoiding it is as easy as avoiding certain foods... just common sense, innit?

Another day, more food and another set of numbers.
Breakfast: - Tea then yard work - gravel paths in chickens area; making log store for this year’s load
Dockey : Tea
Lunch : Avocado and mackerel salad then dog walk
Mid Afternoon: Clearing leaves from trampoline - lost wedding ring; CCB and Tea
Evening meal: Tuna pate (tin tuna flakes, butter, 1/2 tbls ACV - smashed to oblivion in Nutribullet) and 2 flaxseed crispbreads - actually worked well

Oh dear!

Although I didn't lose a shed load of weight, my rings all got a bit too loose - especially those with larger stones or settings.

Fortunately, we have a couple of goldsmiths in our local town - both of whom will work creatively to help - either adding gold to the inner band (all very spiffing, provided there isn't any engraving), or taking slivers out.

In the meantime, this sort of thing isn't the most elegant solution, but they work, and can be a great stop-gap.

@Emma_369 well done on your fast especially if you’ve been home all day.
I’ve been at work all day - in all fairness fasting till 6pm happens frequently as I’m not a breakfast person and am usually so busy at work before I know it lunch has gone. Don’t think I could attempt a fast at the weekend when I’m home all day. Way too much temptation lying around

In keeping with the thread, I made this today: https://www.wholesomeyum.com/recipes/copycat-chipotle-barbacoa-slow-cooker-low-carb-paleo/

It wasn't as I was expecting from the ingredients, but it was actually very nice. Of course, the fact I added a bunch of veg likely impacted the flavour a bit. We have plenty for another round, heading for the freezer.

(Oh, and I lobbed it in the magic cauldron and did it on the pre-set Meat/Stew setting. The beef is extremely tender. :) )

I’m with @shelley262 on this one - it’s definitely a distraction for me. Never been one for snacking and revising - tried it once and ended with chocolate fingerprints all over my notes ;)

Thanks for that - if I find the ring - must be in our garden unless animals have eaten it - I will be trying that

I really like the idea and ease of this ..... but did you use brisket? That would be a no no for me - ox cheek maybe? and adjusting weights for 3 people gives only 1 pound of meat (450 ish gms). I am already losing rings. Getting worried about descriptions of hearty meals based on portion sizes I see.

Hello all!

As the husband is away with work I have embarked on my Christmas prep:arghh:....
Today I blanched sprouts for freezing and made some peppermint high percentage chocolate shards to replace the usual after eights. As these will not keep til Christmas they are my 'tester' batch!

Just looked through the Aldi Christmas brochure to satisfy -visually at least - my carb craving

Breakfast - Hi-lo toast and butter
Lunch - Turkey, peppers, cucumber, tomatoes and olives. Strawberries and cream.
Dinner - Slow cooker lamb and mushroom casserole, carrots, green beans and sprouts.
Snacks - Cashews and mint chocolate shards

Out with some ex work colleagues tomorrow, so will have to behave food wise:oops:

No, I used stewing steak, which I think is skirt or flank, from our butcher, if I recall. Ox cheek would worrk very well for it though. The ACV and lime juice act as tenderisers, so I imagine it'g go very nicely.

To be honest, I don't get too carried away on exact amounts of meat etc. I decide what amount of meat we need for any given meal, then for things like this, double it, so that we have leftovers/freezer candidates for another time.

In this hacienda a recipe is like a line drawing we "colour in" as we wish. Of course, sometimes it goes horribly wrong, when I'm in the hot seat! MrB is far more bullet-proof in culinary matters than I am.
