Zero carb/Carnivore

Yes, someone one here posted about a burger press...must buy one, as mine always turn out a bit rubbish!

Dampen your hands and pat the burger ball into a nice round, then, the best thing to do is to put them in the fridge to firm up, sometimes I use 1/2 egg to bind, sometimes I don't. I add 1/2 of a finely chopped onion, mustard, salt, pepper, a dash or 2 or 3 of Worcester sauce and a spoonful of tomato paste or lower sugar tomato sauce. Edited to say, I add some mixed herbs too.
Just to add, I am gluten free, so no flour or flour substitutes.
I am hungry for a burger and fried onions now lol :hungry:

Just a gentle reminder that this thread was started as a resource for carnivores.

We’ve already had some derailments into why non carnivores think it is a bad way of eating. Of course if people want to continue that discussion they can do so by starting another thread. Likewise, there are plenty of food and recipe threads out there.

Further derailing posts will be deleted.

Meanwhile, this discussion can return to the OP’s theme.

I’ve now had a good rummage around the reddit page linked to by @bulkbiker in the original post, and there are some fabulous sources there.
Although I do wonder how Dr David Unwin feels about being listed as a carni resource ;)

I have recently splashed out on a 23andme genetic test (mainly because of Alzhiemers in the family, and needing to assess my own risk), but I will be very interested in whether anything shows up on the test results to explain why my body does so excellently on carni, and not so well on those pesky veg.

The site the Reddit link goes to doesnt appear to cite Dr Unwin as a resource re carnivore diet, rather it lists him asan advocate and says that he is following a zero carb carnivore diet himself - Ive seen a lot from him re low carb and think he covers that very cogently, but havent seen anything from him re the carnivore diet
Has anyone got a link to back up the claim on Reddit?

I would be interested too.
And I will tag him in, since he is a member here, and may pop in. @Southport GP

Just out of interest - why? Looking at the HbA1c results in everyone's signatures, they look normal. Why restrict your diet even further?
Maybe, just maybe, they feel better, and it works for them.

Have you heard that because some diabetics and those that have gone into remission and those who are non diabetic can be carb intolerant?

I have been told relentlessly and emphatically that even though I'm carb intolerant, I have to have carbs for energy and brain function!

Well through the last five years, I have found that, that is not true, in fact, the reverse!

I am not a carnivore as such, I love most meat, and I do have vegetables, however, only the ones that I enjoy. I eat them to give me a balance of protein and vegetables that I have found to be healthy for me.

We need to be more tolerant of how diabetics get control. If it works for them!
To be able to eat healthy must be the overall target!

Curious - why just beef though?
Like it the best...from mince to steaks and any cut in between.. and I'm already 95% carnivore.
Most of the experienced ZC eaters seem to say that beef and water is the best way to start as beef in the most nutrient dense. I just can't give up the coffee with cream though so have that added in as my treat.

Being an antisocial old git I don't really find that a problem and for my meal out this month (as its my birthday) i'll find somewhere suitable steaky.. probably the Coal Hole in Brighton. I cooked up 7 sirloin steaks in my sous vide yesterday so that's this week sorted..

So you are doing Beef and OMAD?
I’m tuning in to your daily reports / progress.

Seven sirloin steaks over the weekend?! Sounds pretty good to me! Whenever I fancy a meat-loaded meal out, I head to one of the Brazillian restaurants, where they come round with loads of different cuts of meat.

Same here:) but those Brazilian places are expensive though. My local is £40 per adult. Not including drinks.
I never feel I’ve eaten my money’s worth. Even in OMAD

Yep along with coffee with cream and tea with lactofree milk.. so far down 2.8 pounds since Jan 1 possibly burning off Christmas "excess" which consisted a lot of 90% choc and possibly more pigs in blankets than were advisable while cooking Christmas lunch.

I caught an interesting show over Christmas the subject was a guy who ate only raw meat ,i have come across this before but not the extent this guy went to.
he would leave organ meat in jars [2 weeks]until it had fermented/liquefied then eat it.
But what capped it for me was leaving out cuts of meat open air until black with maggots!
Has been doing this for 6 years or so with no ill health.
pretty hardcore.
Myself a light weight , cooked mince beef with just a few slices of select veg to tune the flavour and no maggot sprinkles:eek:

Bleurgh. :yuck: Reminds me of the two strange chaps who pick up roadkill: one in the A303 progamme, the other about people living on Bodmin. The first man was sort of normal and I could see his point of view - if it was fresh, why not? The Bodmin one.... Forever etched on my brain is his saying that he had a badger in the freezer which was rather green but he'd put in in a stew and it 'should be alright'. I'll stick with a burger without a side of maggots too! I often have a burger when out, especially one from local meat, and just ask for no bun or chips but extra salad - it's never been a problem.
