What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

. @bulkbiker - have you tried lamb chump SV?
YesI have but I think I did mine at 60 for a few hours (6-8 prob) .. I tend to cook things for longer than the recipes say as I prefer the slightly softer texture. Just had a 30 hour sirloin steak at 52 degrees.. really tender and all the gristly bits had gone.

Hi all clearly pizza day today @Kingmidas - i hadn’t made one for months but made a variant of the DD fat head pizza today - used ground psyllium husk in place of a third of the ground almonds and felt it improved the texture of the base. Would do it next time with this variation felt it tasted more bready.
Breakfast bacon and egg and a few LC seeded crispbreads
Lunch one lc savoury muffin, some nuts and two squares of 95% choc with coffee
Dinner fathead pizza with a tomato topping and salami, chicken and cheese must do more often in future followed by lc raspberry mousse with dollop of extrathick cream.
Hope everyone has a great evening - stay warm

The chump was meltingly tender. The fat had softened a bit, but could have easily handled longer cooking.

For a very cheap cut of meat, I was astonished how tender it was. For SV, I quite often do the prep as soon as I get home to allow whatever rub or other condiments to really infuse - especially as I sometimes leave the vacuumed bags in the fridge overnight, prior to freezing.

Defrost and send it swimming. I haven't yet started the SV from frozen. I also haven't done any long, long (like your 30hr) cooks yet.

Yes, I'm a SV wuuuuuuuuusss

@Goonergal Yes, my BGs were better today. FBG was 8.0 but steadily came down after eating breakfast. Then 6.3 before lunch PP was 6.4. 5.5 just before dinner and dinner PP was 5.8. Most importantly I really enjoyed that cuppa with skimmed milk - I didn't test for it but it made me feel happier to have something that was for me rather than something that was for my BG - if you see what I mean. It wasn't a really carby day but I'll know better tomorrow when i know what my FBG is.

@PenguinMum I think it was fast and very hot, too. I remember her saying something about not having had a tandoori oven in her kitchen. I'll have to watch it again. Mr C is usually the curry maker in this house. He's got a cupboard full of spices, lentils, oils, ghee and spice blends and his favourite day out is to a large Asian supermarket in Sheffield where he spends a fortune on 'stuff' and weird vegetables.

I did some rump steak last week for 30 hours and when it came out it was like eating butter so soft and tender. Unfortunately it had been in the fridge maybe a bit too long and was a bit smelly.. hubs wasn't amused (he has a very sensitive nose) but even when I sliced it and stir fried in butter it didn't toughen up at all.

That’s good and do know what you mean about the cuppa with skimmed milk.

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: salmon with cauliflower and broccoli salad followed by Greek yoghurt and raspberries.
Mid afternoon: lemon chia pudding and black coffee.
Dinner: gammon steak with fried egg and celeriac chips followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola

@zauberflote and @Chook I dont like the dishes too hot more aromatic. My boys do like hot currys so I often compromise and serve with a dollop of FAGE yogurt. I use up to 8 different spices, kashmiri dried chillis and cook them into a base of fried onion puree (thickens it beautifully) and cook in grated ginger and garlic then tinned tomatoes. My favourite book is Atul Kochhar Simple Indian and sometimes I tinker with the spices. But there is no better feel good than a long slow cooking pot of spice filling the house with lovely smells. Happy days.

We do it the other way round here. He makes a (very) mild aromatic curry then crispy fries some onions and chilli(es) in ghee as a topping for his serving. We've got a lot of recipe books but he tends to trawl the internet for something that takes his interest. The downside to his cooking is that his tablet devise has got dots of yellow all over it - as does a lot of the kitchen and most of his clothes.

Have to agree with that.

Totals for day 1660 Calories, (-75) carbs 79g well that is a surprise, considering I had muesli, toast and potatoes today.
steps not huge @ 6k

Maybe should test muesli tomorrow under more controlled conditions. If it turns out to be ok for me, that would really help with meal planning. Am not able to sustain cooked breakfast every day.

Breakfast: Peanut & chocolate protein bar with a cup of tea
Mid morning - coffee
Lunch - small tray of kebab meat with salad and mayo
Dinner - later than I usually like to eat but really hungry and first chance I’ve had to sort something so just waiting for a Cumberland sausage and a small portion of the DD bacon & mushroom casserole to cook. I know just bacon and eggs would have been quicker but that casserole is worth waiting for and maybe the slightly higher fbg from the late meal

Evening.
@Chook I’m glad the bgs were a bit better today, fingers crossed for tomorrow’s fbg
@shelley262 that’s a good tip re the fathead pizza and PH. I’ll give it a go next time ( maybe when the current batch of H&B brand has been used up - the violet colour is a bit offputting, although daughter thinks its pretty)
@Goonergal thanks for the heads up re the horrible scratchings.
@DCUK mod my mouth is watering at that tender lamb.

Today’s food
B: Smoked salmon, scrambled egg and avocado. Coffe&cream

Today was supposed to be just breakfast and lunch, but I wasn’t hungry at lunchtime so didn’t have any.
Dinner: was hungry by the time I got in but too late for a big meal so a few of Shelley262’s seedy crackers ( still crisp after several days in Tupperware) with Blacksticks blue cheese and a delicate ladle of almond butter

So glad I didn't have to brave the roads this morning. I've heard tales from many colleagues and neighbours who had to give up half way! I've had a lovely day at home catching up with some chores (less lovely!), lunch at local café and a long walk with Mr B. I love the way everything seems so still and peaceful in the snow. The bad news is my car failed it's MOT and needs a fair amount of work doing to it, which will not be cheap! :bigtears: Oh well, at least it means I get to work from home tomorrow, as my poor car was not ready to pick up today.

Breakfast: Lemon, orange & orange blossom chia pudding. Coffee with dash of cream.
Lunch: I had leek and potato soup with sourdough bread. Mr B had bacon, sausage, black pudding, egg, tomato and mushroom. More coffee.
Dinner: LC tofu Katsu curry served with lime, coconut, chilli and coriander cauli rice. The tofu was okay, but would definitely prefer chicken. The rice was amazing, but would have suited a more Thai inspired dish better. Small square of 85% choc and decaf coffee with cream.

Particularly pleased about how crisp the new SSCs stay - mine are still very crisp and made them almost a week ago now!

Have you tried chia pudding? We have it for breakfast most days and you can make it the night before a bit like overnight oats / Bircher muesli. It's full of fibre, healthy fats and is really filling. Or there is @Rachox 's famous chocolate granola.

The vile ones were from Sainsbury’s.

Didn’t know about the liquid - have never used a slow cooker before at all and instructions said to cover the meat. Chicken with butter sounds very good. A small chicken would just about fit into the one I have.

The burgers are 250g (or thereabouts) of mince, 50g crumbled feta, handful of very finely chopped baby leaf spinach, and very small amounts of finely chopped tomato and onion all mixed up in a bowl with some thyme and any other seasoning you fancy, rolled into shape, chilled for a while and then grilled.
I'm craving burgers now!
