4.7 at 6.15am when I woke.
5.4 at 8.15 and not moved a muscle. Still lying in bed!
Old school teachers funeral today. Lovely lady. Will be a great turnout to celebrate her life.
Then off down motorway again to liverpool. A low carb group. Sharing my journey and their low carb cakes they are baking for me I'm really looking forward to it.
Yesterdays event in warrington was quite an eye opener in a way. Here was the email that went out:
you had to choose to attend just one of our meetings this year, I would recommend this one! As requested by the group, this meeting is about making behaviour change effective. Join us, learn how you can change what you do, and help your family and patients to change.
Introduced and compered by our own
Dr Joanne McCormack, a Portfolio GP who has been featured on Radio 4/ Evan Davis' "PM" News programme with her low-carb behaviour change groups in Warrington, we are delighted to welcome
Dr David Unwin,
NHS National GP Innovator or the Year, and
Jen Unwin,
Psychologist and Expert in Behaviour Change.
David and Jen are experts in behaviour change in a real life North of England GP setting. Using behaviour change methods to reverse the metabolic syndrome they have transformed patient care at Norwood surgery in Southport, improving a range of problems including T2DM (better control and remission), Hypertension, Obesity, NAFLD etc (and saving £37,000 annually in prescribing costs in the process).
We will also have
Suzie Glaskie, a functional medicine certified health coach (formerly of the food industry - she knows what they do!) and two expert patients. Tref has lost 7.5 stone and is an expert on intermittent fasting. Deb has lost 4 stone and sent her Type 2 Diabetes into Remission with low carbohydrate behaviour change. Deb also recently appeared on ITV's
This Morning Programme.

If ITV and Radio 4 are interested, there must be something in it. Come and hear why.
This meeting isn't about controlling chronic conditions by prescribing yet more pharmaceuticals from another new algorithm. This is about improving and resolving chronic conditions with simple low cost lifestyle measures, delivered by behaviour change. If we can understand the techniques of behaviour change, then we can practice real medicine that will effectively transform lives.
The meeting is on
Wednesday October 30th at Spire. We will have delicious low carb food served at 6.30, and the meeting will start at 7pm as usual. This meeting will be pharma rep-free'
Excellent low carb food on offer.
The room was full of GPs. All listening intently. Firstly to Jen and David who make a great team. I love to hear what they have to say. About 50 mins. Then health coach suzie. 30 mins. Then Trev a gentleman (non diabetic) overweight all his life but took control. IF. Lchf. Lost 8 stone since January! Then Keith a 7 year dx diabetic. Lchf and well controlled. Did a sugar demo. Poured sugar equivalent to cereal into a tupperware. Then equivalent to sandwich. Then more for dinner. The container by the end of the day was full! I'm using that demo for sure! Then me talking about taking back control. My dx. Given DUK booklets. Page 19 'you can eat everything' rubbish. Told them why we cant. Held up blood glucose monitor. Gave libre demo. Showed some graphs of my readings. My next estimated a1c of 31. Etc etc etc. Q and A.
So the surprising bit (not so surprising really) was they didnt know how beneficial eating low carb was. How carbs turn to sugar. How even fruit isnt good.
Anyway as I finished I said 'I just want to ask you to give us the choice , dont just automatically offer medication, yes some will be happy with meds, they think they can take them and eat what they want, not true, but that's what they think. But others will want to know how to take control with diet, please please give us the choice'. I'd already told them I found the solution on Google!
3 drs came up at the end. One said 'you kept me very engaged throughout' the others said thank you so much. And dr unwin came over to say I'm a natural! I was nervous but my passion gets me through.
It feels like a drop in the ocean but a stone thrown causes ripples.
@poemagraphic for info.
Have a good day everyone. Catching up tomorrow.
