What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

@maglil55 Hope the weather improves, it's rainy and windy here today as well, after insanely high temps last week. Hope your husband enjoys the football, however it's no fun venturing out in the rain is it.

Breakfast 2x CWC, Nut granola, pain raisin. Too many lying about defrosted. One hour Bg 9.4. Guess those are off the menu altogether now.
Lunch souped up Soups de Poisson and cheese pain kapnor toast. Trying to keep the calories up. Tea
This afternoon discovered fridge side of the fridge freezer had also packed up. More food in the bin, about 3kg meat today, plus assorted other items.
Getting down the wine ...
Dinner roasted duck leg, potato gratin (tinned ) vegetable hash by MrSlim. More wine. Probably should stop now. Handfuls of chocolates.
Watching France:v England in the six nations. MrSlim cheering for France and me for England.
Likely to be several more lemon tea tonight to balance out the wine.
What I didn't say earlier was the result of that high BG, been dashing to the loo all day :stop:

Where did the weekend go? Very complex and busy few days as autistic eldest sons behaviour was a bit challenging but we managed eventually to have a bit of reasonable time together and he will hopefully improve now that what he perceives as a major mountain to climb - his birthday - has happened. Cooper - youngest sons dog - visiting us though most definitely helped to calm things with his calm friendly nature. He’s very sensitive and tries to comfort. @Chook thought about your dog and his role in picking things up - dogs are amazing. At least weather good - our eldest was born 44 years ago in Dundee in Scotland in the middle of a major snowstorm - remember it was difficult to get to ninewells hospital! In contrast we had a sunny mild day yesterday here in the midlands.
@Goonergal pleased to see you’ve had a good rest this weekend and your food looks amazing
Yesterday lots to do so limited food - picked at some cheeses, ham and salads and lots of coffee on the go!
Today lunch cheese, lc scone and smoked trout pate followed by hm keto lemon curd - small spoon of - mixed in fage yoghurt
Dinner steak, salad and halloumi fries with two glasses of red wine followed by lc brownie and cream
@DJC3 sorry to hear about your hc choc cream experience I only had single measures but didn’t have a spike at all when had it over Christmas shows it’s individual and the importance of testing....
.@maglil55 hope your sore legs improve sounds difficult and wishing you well with your ‘deep dive’ with DD! Sounds intriguing must have a dig on the dd site if get some time soon.
@Brunneria have a great birthday on the day - your celebratory meal sounds great
@ianpspurs pleased to hear about exchange of contract and hope it now all goes smoothly- quite a big change for you but exciting too
@PenguinMum enjoy your spatchcock chicken - one of my favourite things and did a fair bit last summer marinating it overnight must have another go soon......would imagine it would airfry well if not too big a bird!

Sorry you’ve had such a challenging few days, I’m glad it’s calmed down a bit now though and completely agree about the benefits of throwing a dog into the mix.
I was absolutely gutted about the HC liqueur I must say. Youngest daughter was delighted as she took it away with her - for my own good!

Breakfast: my usual low carb coconut ‘porridge’ with strawberries and cream washed down with a black coffee.
Lunch: Keralan chicken curry with cauliflower rice, followed by SF jelly, cream and LC chocolate granola.
Mid afternoon: birthday cake carb killa bar and black coffee.
Tea at ILs: cold meat, cheese and salad buffet followed by one Jaffa cake :hungry:

Feeling better with my cold . Last night the soup mix ( powder ) had 57 g carbs and I had no idea so had half of it with cheese and crackers and my BG went to 160 =8.9.

Today

FPG was 90= 5
Breakfast : a fried egg , and only 2 spoons of cooked beans . Black coffee
Again BG went up to 142= 7.9 but quickly dropped . Won’t eat beans again even a small amount .

Lunch : nothing yet. Frying ground beef for a late lunch . Will have blueberries.
Bought two Ballarini pans from Macy’s online , since there was a huge sale . They are magical . Pic attached .

Also attached my knives . I only use the smallest green one since I don’t do much in the kitchen . I ask bf to use the scary ones .

Today I was brave and for the first time I used the ones that have fake wooden handle ( the middle one) . The process was rather scary at first, but indeed much more efficient to cut my onion. Comments on this forum the knives might have changed my mind

Dinner : leftover lunch and salad . Coffee Keto ice cream

02-02-2020 Palindrome:)

Haha ! I did not realize it ! It’s also a special palindrome since it’s read the same in both British and American format .

The next palindrome date will be 12-02-2021

That is, next year , second of December in US and 12 of Feb of 2021 in U.K. ! So we won’t be aligned

Edit : will report back next century on 12/12/2121

I have the same problem (what doesn't she have, I hear you ask). It affects both hands from time to time. Dr says it's probably carpal tunnel syndrome. It can be very annoying, but usually only happens when I am at rest. I still think it may be something to do with diabetes; or circulation. Happening right now, in fact, but only mildly so I can keep typing.

Breakfast today was bacon, egg and tomato with tea, of course.
Dinner was at 5 pm (gives me longer before the next meal tomorrow). It was spicy lamb with vegetables - cauliflower, onion and red, green and yellow peppers. Cooked it for about 3 hours to make the lamb shoulder tender. It looks like a lot on the plate, but it is only one of my smaller plates (used to be called a dessert plate) and I only had about two thirds of it - I was very full at that point.

I do have a dinner set with largish plates - we bought it in Japan along with a tea set, in 1965 (my goodness, that's about 54 years ago!) but it doesn't get used because everyone is afraid of damaging it. Waste of money that. I can't dispose of my mother's/grandmother's/mother-in-law's/grandmother-in-law's crockery either. Those plates are all pretty big. So I use an odd assortment of plates bought from charity shops - gives plenty of variety and I like old plates. Grandparents' dishes are all around 100 to 130 years old, can't use those, or, it seems my own ones.

Anne,
My mom keeps the really old plates in a nice wooden plate-cabinet just for decoration . You can do the same. They are pretty. She has lots of those around the house.

If you really don’t want them, you could sell them online for a really good price . Many ppl like antiques. For example here :
https://www.sellingantiques.co.uk/antique-plates/

I have no idea about how good or reliable is this website ( I just searched quickly ) . Be careful about scams . You can search for them and find out what the price would be and then advertise them.

But I’m sure you kids and grandchildren would appreciate them . It’s a lot of history! I personally love these things because there is a lot one can learn from them .

The only white ones I have are 3 dessert plates and one large platter. The rest are mostly blue and white, antique style or actually antique or the Japanese ones, which are white with a black Japanese scene painted on them. They don't have many plain white in a reasonable quality in the 2nd hand shops.
We have an unbelievably delicate Chinese tea set my Grandfather acquired whilst in the army. Hopefully it will survive the move. White is my colour of choice for crockery (and walls - black leather sofas.)

Julie can take it in hers but thanks. Mine will have all the important stuff . The medals letters and memorabilia of Ben P and my Grandfather plus my dad's my own and No 2 son's cricket trophies plus items of special significance to myself. The rest can be replaced.

Our day to day crockery is white, with a single duck egg blue line around the end. Our "best" crockery is white.

We have a few coloured presentation/serving dishes and multifarious Le Creuset bits (as well as cookware). My OH, given his way, we'd have white. Period.

(Our bedding is all either white, with white, on white, or the palest cream you can imagine, but that's likely TMI.)

I love my family antique plates etc and do have many of them on a dresser in my kitchen and in a cabinet in my hallway. Some of the platters are so big that they won't fit in any cabinet and need their own, purpose built one. They are kept, safely wrapped in a box in the loft. I couldn't part with them. They are family history after all. But neither can I use them - they are the last relics of past days and treasured as such.

Whether Em will want them when she is older, I have no idea but I hope she does and will keep them safe for her. There are things from my own part of the family that I have passed on to my brother for his son and daughter, but they are both the last generation on that line, and what will happen to those things I can't tell. They'll probably end up in some charity shop or other. Sad really.

I like this thread, accidentally posted today's meals in a different thread, but will continue posting here, even though I am not super low carb anymore. Had GP appointment today, he said to just let cut heal and keep dry, no more antibiotics needed at this point, just rest and recovery. lymphedema is playing up, but washing machine fixed, it was the washer, and no more trades people needed in the near future.

Hello Everyone :)

Very interesting to read everyone's choices for china. We are just about to replace our elderly everyday china which has lots of chips and pieces missing and I think we'll replace it with plain white.

My hand is still painful and is getting worse. Archie (the dog) also has a poorly foot but we can't work out what it is. He went for a wander round the garden on his own and when he came in he was limping. We've got an appointment for him with the Vet tomorrow, no problem, then tried making an appointment for me at the doctors and was told the next appointment for my kind of health issue would be the end of the third week in February. Apparently patients are now sort of triaged when making appointments and there is an unofficial scale of appointment availability depending on immediacy of care needed. TBH, fair enough. If I had chest pains I wouldn't want to wait until the end of the third week in February before being seen. I just wish they'd hurry up and employ a few more doctors. When I became one of their patients 19 years ago they had six doctors and now they are down to two with an occasional locum.

If it carries on getting more painful I might go AWOL over the next few days but I will still be low carbing and reading this thread.

Anyway.....
Bed time last night: 6.1
FBG today: 7.8 (presumably because I spent a lot of last night trying to get comfortable enough to sleep)

Breakfast: Usual Alpro soya coconut yoghurt, 80g mixed berries, and 20g mixed nuts and seeds
2 hours later: 9.1 - no idea why this high as that breakfast usually doesn't have much affect

Lunch: Green gloop

Dinner: Yesterday's 5 minute dinner from Deliciously Ella was so nice that I'm repeating it again tonight - drain and rinse a tin of beans (I used cannellini) then heat in a pan with some EVOO. Stir in some pesto (yesterday's was h/m today I'm using good quality shop bought) then stir in a pack of fresh baby spinach. Scrunch in a bit of black pepper and a very good squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Keep turning it and when all the spinach is wilted its ready. VERY yum. This will definitely be a regular feature as a) its tasty and b) its SO quick!

I hope your hand gets better soon, @Chook. If it is bad enough to stop you doing anything, then don't assume it is a minor thing and try to see a doctor or nurse. Mine doesn't keep on hurting - it comes and goes and isn't much of an issue really. That's why I haven't made a big deal of it with the GP. Doesn't sound as though your doctors are any better than ours in terms of getting an appointment, although with ours, if they haven't got an appointment in the next few days, they just can't give you a date - apparently the list of appointments is only given out a few days in advance. Take care of yourself.

@shelley262 sorry that the birthday was so difficult and glad its calmer now, good old Cooper! @Chook sorry about your hand that must make everything so frustrating for you. That does seem a long wait to see the doctor, no wonder people go to A&E.
@maglil55 i made a trip to Asda this mornng for cauli rice but was unsuccessful which was annoying since its a 10 mile drive. They did have a space for it and ticket so they may just be out of stock. If I blitz a cauli head in the machine and portion it can I just microwave it from the freezer like the Iceland ones?
Todays food is as follows:
Breakfast was usual slice of LL toast, utter, tea x2.
Lunch was mug of h/m leek & brocolli soup and can of mackerell, odd I know.
Supper will be cheese & tomato omelette, pasta with chicken, chorizo & red pepper for Mr PM.
