@gennepher Thank you for posting your blue paintings. I like them both, especially the A4 one -- I was interested to read about the results of painting on the shinier side of the card.
You made me curious about the granulation medium so I Googled it and found a video that has closed captioning.

You and Popeye are such a good team. You could write stories and I bet they would be bestsellers.
Thank you @SaskiaKC
I appreciate that link and with the subtitles

Yes, the larger one is the better one.

I don’t think I was using enough of the granulation medium, I was just sprinkling it on. I have seen the other one in the shops, but forget to google it all when I get home...

I didn’t expect the retail park car park to be packed to the gills with cars at 8:30 am this Monday morning. I went to get cat food and some tins of meat for myself.

I wasn’t prepared for swathes of empty shelves. Any toilet rolls were already flying out of the shop doors...

There is cat food in abundance and so I got Popeye’s dried food and wet food, but I forgot the cat litter.

So then I was looking for cans of chicken in white sauce, and beef in gravy, for me. I wash the gravy and sauce and such off because of the diabetes (too much sugar and carbs in that) but I can get away with that meat itself, as long as I don’t eat it every day. Absolutely no cans of beef chunks in gravy, nor chicken in white sauce in any of the places I tried.

I only have the tiniest table top freezer which you can get a dozen packets of fish fingers in, and little else. I am not a lover of frozen foods and so it suited me. But this now means I don’t have a back up food supply, like most of my friends who have a chest freezer in the garage, as well as an upright freezer in the kitchen. I only have a table top fridge, as equally as tiny. But that was okay initially because I bought fresh foods most days. But in the current ‘crisis’, there is a possibility this shopping daily may not be an option.

I couldn’t find the coffee I like either...those shelves are empty. So came home coffeeless...but I did find some apple cider vinegar so looks like I might have to drink that....

I was over tired by this time, so came home. I have just realised tins of spam were in abundance on the shelves. I should have got some, but didn’t. I was too tired to think clearly on that.

On couch now with a cuppa ... zzzzzz....,

It is so interesting how different we all are. There is no - one size fits all. Did you suddenly get caffeine intolerant - or were you always intolerant and hadn't realised it was the caffeine.

I was wheat intolerant for years and years but didn't realise that it was the wheat causing gut issues.

Years ago I went to the docs 'cos I used to get heart palpitations and the shakes, he asked me how many coffees I drank a day which at the time was a lot, then he told me I should cut it down, I reduced my coffee intake, started drinking tea at work and moved over to decaf and the.palpitations went. More recently when first dx I was on 800 cals a day diet, in my ignorance I thought rather than drink water for my hydration, I would drink tea and coffee (both decaf) not realizing that there was some caffeine in decaf. Got really bad palpitations, chest pains the lot, which at first they thought was atrial fibrillation but turned out to be an ectopic heartbeat. By time I got the results I had researched and found out that decaf contains caffeine and that it was probably the caffeine that was the problem. I cut back on both and now try to limit myself to very weak tea but less of, as don't like water much nor carbonated drinks. Palpitations have reduced a lot but I know when I have overdone it.

I think I was also a little wheat intolerant used to get terribly bloated but never understood why as tried to eat a healthy diet. When I went low carb one of the amazing things was the beneficial effect it had on my gut.

Hugs and good wishes for your review. :)
I can't do low carb because of high cholesterol. I'm glad you didn't tag them; this is such a peaceful, friendly, non-argumentative thread. Please let's keep it this way! :)
Yes I guess my fear is that my cholesterol wont come down now that I have stopped losing weight as everyone seems to assume it will. Should really pay for my own test but keep forgetting. If you don't do low carb how do you manage to keep your blood numbers down?

You did really well researching iit and sorting it out yourself.

I also found out that I was wheat intolerant when I went low carb. The gut problems had gone on for many years so it is so nice not to have them.

oh dear @gennepher i do hear that.
missus sent em off to supermarket the other day for food for Marley (bless Him )
while much IS on the shelves, the quantities did look MUCH less, obv the usual were all missing
but there was enough o be able to buy a few days worth of food, tins etc

Was quite disturbed that the minister said they'd been in talks with the supermarkets not to panic,
only to find the supermarkets had no idea about such supposed talks.

Do think the Gov't need to gets it's act together on this.
barely acceptable so far..Supermarket panic a common Phenomenon in impending disaster areas.

and it's always the least able who suffer the most..greed and selfishness at the fore in almost every coverage of the supermarkets.
entirely predictable, yet once again Govt caught on the back foot
Lets hope they up their game considerably over the next few days and weeks..

anyone else think it was a good idea, with the 'Escape from Italy' disaster movie playing out on the news the other night, to just allow flights to come back and not be screening passengers..If i didn't know better ...

I can't do my normal shopping @jjraak if this is a daily occurrence prolonging the shopping experience to this degree. I am exhausted now. And can't do anything now for the rest of the day. I do not have the stamina or health or energy available for this.

So the government and Boris are talking poppycock that they have been in talks with supermarkets. I cannot wait days or weeks for them to sort it, and I presume neither can all other elderly and disabled people...

I don't keep my blood numbers as low as I'd like to, compared with others' blood numbers posted on this board. :) I'm usually in the 7s, with an occasional 6.something, these days; last year, when I was eating LCHF, my blood numbers were lower. But my doctor is happy with my A1C numbers when they're checked every 3 months, and says as long as my FBG is running around 7.2 or lower, that's OK.
She is more concerned about my high LDL numbers, and wants me to go from 10mg atorvastatin a day to 20mg a day. I don't want to do that; I didn't want to start statins in the first place, because a friend of mine who did had a horrid experience with painful side effects.
I would rather risk the long-term effects of higher FBG numbers than a possible sudden effect from high LDL numbers -- i.e., heart attack or stroke!

Others, on other threads, have wanted to argue with this, which is why I said Please let's keep this thread a pleasant and peaceful one. :)

What scares me far more than the coronavirus itself is the widespread panic caused by news of it. I've experienced snowstorm forecasts when "neighbors" would strip the stores' shelves of bread, milk, and batteries, preferring to hoard supplies for what might be one week without electricity and/or water than share with their neighbors. But that was before the days of the Internet. And the thought of an entire globe full of people with credit cards buying up all the toilet paper and sanitizers and hoarding them against something that might not even happen is much more horrifying to me than the less likely possibility of every. single. person. on earth catching the coronavirus and dying from it.

After a glorious sunny morning, it's now cold and wet again. On my Muddy Cycle ride saw some blossom trees lit by the sun against the dark rain clouds movingg in from the West, a quick watercolour A5 size 15 minutes to paint, about 10 minutes masking out the trees and waiting for the fluid to dry before painting began.

@gennepher what a busy night you had, hugs for that, but winner for two pieces of art like the first very much. Hugs for shopping experience. I have to ask what ever happened to concern, care, love and respect? It's all very sad and frightening and a poor reflection on society. I was surprised by the empty shelves at our local Tesco. One thought I had was OK buy all the soap and sanatisers BUT remember you also need other people, those who have been denied soap and sanatisers by selfish actions, to also be washing their hands or it all falls apart.

Today I had two emails from Scotland. When we did the road trip on the West Coast we left details with a few business who's craft or art we were interested in. These emails spell out the worry and concern they have regarding no tourists, usually from April things start to get busy but figures and bookings are showing tourism is not going to be huge and they think it highly likely it won't pickup until maybe June if at all. Both businesses fear they will cease trading and loose their lively hood. I have to state these were not begging emails but matter of fact informative emails keeping past customers and interested parties informed. Some hard times ahead I fear.

@Krystyna23040 I have been enjoying reading about arabica and Colombian and robusta coffees online. I was happy to find that Walmart (huge US and Canadian discount retail chain) carries a fairly affordable arabica coffee, even a chocolate variety and a decaf one! :) It's only been recently (and I think on this thread) that I've even heard of arabica coffee. My parents were big coffee drinkers but were not "into" it -- they just enjoyed it, black, with meals. They preferred one brand over another, but I never heard them mention different types of beans or roasts.
The first time I ever heard the word "Arabica" was on an episode of "Rosemary and Thyme" where there was a horse named Arabica but IIRC the horse was more the color of tea than coffee. ;)

@jjraak I used to prefer tea to coffee back when I could drink it with milk and sugar, but with just milk, or black, I don't like it as much as I like coffee. :( It also makes me "higher" than coffee does, unless it's decaf.

I keep thinking of the Food and Mouth disease epidemic of 20-some years ago.

These trees are lovely. I think the only ones that have bloomed here so far this year are the redbuds. Maybe the pears, but I don't think there are any pear trees in my neighborhood, and the dogwoods always bloom later, but before the magnolias and the mimosas.

@Ryhia understandable to be a little apprehensive around the eye test and annual review. Your numbers are good, methods sound and posts show you are doing all the right things - for you. Lots of information about cholesterol on here including a long and detailed thread by Bulkbiker. And breathe.
Thanks for the encouragement - just a wimp really.

Yes, I agree that some black coffees are just too strong or maybe too bitter. Those are the ones that I have to add just one spoon of cream
I have a friend who runs a Coffee Bike.
IMG_2739.JPG
He went to Germany on a three day training course on how to make all the different coffee drinks. When out cycling with him, not on the coffee bike, we pop into various coffee shops and often he ends up showing them how to make a good coffee, all to do with temperatures the order in which things are done, apparently so often done wrong, I have to say you can tell the difference between the cups he makes and those served by the staff, amazing, even the staff at the cafes are impressed.

@gennepher I am sorry to hear of your very fraught shopping trip. The supermarkets shouldnt need the Government tell them to limit essentials per customer. They are just lapping up the extra sales it would seem and couldnt care less about who gets left without. Its very poor and not community spirited. I wish I could help you in some practical way. I hope by the end of the week stocks are resumed. Try not to worry. Bobs & Daisy are pleased Popeye is sorted :cat:
