The pastor sounds rather cultish to me, one of these so called messiah's, with the meek and the mild as followers.
He should be brought to justice, the man is a disgrace !!

After posting about what this pastor is doing, I visited the church's facebook page. Members of other faith communities have reached out to the church's members there trying to help them understand from a biblical perspective why God would not want them to endanger themselves and others in this manner. Not sure, but if a death can be traced to this pastor's actions it's possible he will be prosecuted.

Looking at pictures of the huge fleet of buses they use, many look brand new, to bus in children from 5 parishes, I suspect the real reason behind this decision is financial, which is still wrong. It's greatly disturbing to me too.

This arrived in my email this morning...

New York Hospitals Treating Coronavirus Patients With Viramin C
https://nypost.com/2020/03/24/new-york-hospitals-treating-coronavirus-patients-with-vitamin-c/

It's a low dose of 6 g (6,000 mg) a day spread out through the day, which is lower than the 20 g a day China used in their recent study. It sounds like they're using it to prevent/treat sepsis which can be deadly.
I know you are passionate about this Vitamin C thing, but I am not comfortable with the idea of recommending people take such high doses of it as a matter of course. And that is supposing there is any for sale anyway. Children etc need the stocks we have remaining in the shops.

Peoples beliefs are up to them, but if in this case, they endanger the population at large, or as sometimes, their own children, the State usually reluctantly takes action.

It gets to be a problem if the State has to sort out problems in belief systems, it looks bad.

Some things are ok. Re: male circumcision. But F.G.M. is definitely a no no. and the State should act, its brutal and cannot come under any cultural norm.

Education is the answer in the long run.

The problem for Christianity is theologians like Calvin caused very different views from the early fathers to emerge and these views have been amplified by some groups in modern times.
I can think of one particular idiot in Brazil and there are a number in N.A.

Balance is everything.

I agree, especially as 6,000 mg is described as a low dose, when the RDA for Vitamin C is 90 mg.

what church is this?

It's the Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I went to their facebook page to learn more about them... https://www.facebook.com/pg/ltcbatonrouge/posts/?ref=page_internal

My husband and I were talking this morning about this. His thought is perhaps local law enforcement or the national guard could prevent the buses from leaving the church to pick up the members to protect the surrounding community.

This is so concerning. The US is now the global epicenter of the virus, and the state of Louisiana now is listed as the 7th highest state for total cases. Oh my gosh, New Orleans, Louisiana cancelled the St. Patrick's Day Parade and many other regional events but they didn't cancel Mardi Gras this year...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...center-mardi-gras-fueled-outbreak/2921116001/

People travel from outside the area and state to attend the Mardi Gras. That's likely why they've been so hard hit.

On March 22nd, the governor of Louisiana or issued this...

Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a statewide Stay at Home order that goes into effect at 5 p.m. Monday, March 23, to further fight the spread of COVID-19 in Louisiana, as the number of confirmed cases have topped 800 and spread to more than half of our parishes.

On March 20th, the governor reminded citizens of the current restrictions...

CURRENT STATE-LED MITIGATION MEASURES:

Governor Edwards has put in place a number of restrictions on the public to prevent spread of COVID-19 in Louisiana, including:

  • Limiting gatherings to no more than 50 people
  • Closing all K-12 public schools
  • Closing casinos, bars movie theatres, gyms and fitness centers
  • Closing restaurants to patrons eating on site. Take-out, drive-through and delivery orders are allowed
  • Reducing the use of public buildings by closing in some areas, encouraging the use of remote working by government employees
  • Moving the April 4 election

why am I not surprised at who is the culprit. No chance getting them to see sense. Lets hope the law get involved.

My circumstances are unique. I have lung damage, have a history of developing shortness of breath following influenza, had a stressful couple of days after a learning a friend had been living in their car for a month - (friend is now sheltered again) - and I work for a government department of 21 people. We're "essential", so will likely continue to work through the "shelter in place" period.

During the influenza season and now for COVID-19, most days I take 2,000 g to 3,000 g vitamin C. If I'm stressed, I'll up it to 4,000 g to 6,000 g a day with no side effects which suggests I may need it. I'm also taking all the other needed nutrients too.

All that said, taking only 500 mg vitamin C a day can be helpful too. I take less than that during the late spring, summer, and early fall months when I take my favorite vitamin C supplement made from whole foods.

Hoping you're able to at minimum take multivitamin and mineral supplement, perhaps some D3 too with vitamin C rich foods. Something is better than nothing.

I'm not actually advocating vitamin C only for day-to-day use; though I can see why you'd think that. The problem with posting links to information is that hardly anyone clicks on them to read or listen to the content of those links. I'm advocating for upping intake of some vitamins and minerals to optimize immune health, not just vitamin C.

Frustratingly, some people can live their whole lives without ever taking a nutritional supplement. I personally know a few. While others, myself included, have to do so to maintain health. Prior to taking nutritional supplements, I got sick a lot. If I had a choice, I'd much prefer being in the former group. ;)

The good news is that 97% of us are going to come through the COVID-19 pandemic just fine. It's that 2-3% that I'm reaching out to with my many posts on nutritional supplement strategies. Perhaps I should start a COVID-19 thread for this purpose only to summarize what I've learned over the last few weeks. Need to think on that. It will be a lot of work, but I only work 3 - 4 days a week so I have the time to so.

I do hope other communities can help and give their support, that is, before the police or the corona get there first.
The pastor sounds as though he needs power to control, he's not the first and wont be the last :(

Hmmm. Not wishing to be too contrarian, and I don't necessarily disagree with what he says, but I raise an eyebrow at [paraphrased] "I'll still get paid regardless of what happens, but you should stay at home even if you won't." :shifty:

I'm self-employed. Is Dr. Jack going to pay my mortgage if I sit at home watching Netflix for three months? Intentions are all well and good until reality strikes.
Some may think we can all just sit and home and not get any cash... from anyone or anywhere.
That would be nice, we would all love that.

No wonder people are confused. The officials giving guidance don’t know the guidance!

My symptoms (after more than a week of chest ache, slight wheezing, intermittent cough) stepped up last night and I now definitely have a consistent cough and very slight sore throat but otherwise ok. I was confused about the isolation period so called PHE general advice line (via 111 options) after getting no enlightenment from 111 online yes / no answers.

They were completely muddled as to whether the chest symptoms from the last week or so marked the start of my isolation or the proper consistent cough as one of the two official markers did. They advised talking to 111 directly. So I did. They really didn’t know either but ended up going with the fact I’ve done the 7 days and now have a lingering cough as opposed to being infectious - so long as there’s no fever. So neither person inspired confidence in the decision. I’ll extend it as long as I reasonably can just in case.

When I mentioned being diabetic she asked if I was aware i should be isolating for 12 weeks. I said I thought that was just the very highest risk groups that were getting letters eg cancer patients not those of us just classed as more vulnerable. She quickly backtracked and said she didn’t realise that :banghead::banghead: These are the people that are supposed to be guiding us all and they don’t know the basic rules.

incidentally my bgl are normal and maybe even lower, perhaps due to the huge amounts of vitamin C I’m ingesting (2-3g over the day right now)?? Found lots of papers to say type 2 are typically low anyway and Vit C can lower bgl and insulin levels significantly as well as plenty to say it helps support the immunity for this kind of bug

And there’s a small, but personally highly relevant, group of one man companies (contractors) that aren’t really covered.

They are specifically excluded from the self employment rules and because of the way their income is structured leaves them with a pittance under the employed rules and no other benefits available. We face just over £100 a week for the 2 of us and 3 teenagers as a result of having contractor income that is by no means extravagant normally. Won’t even cover food if it happens and it very likely might in the next week or two.

Due to this (and IR35), contracting has none of the benefits or protection of Paye. Nor are we getting the protection self employed now are, but we are taking the same financial risks. Someone in HMRC has really got in in for contractors.

Why can't you apply for universal credit? What type of National insurance do you pay?

I was answering the point about Jim, who stated he is self employed.

We thought we were self employed too but this type is specifically excluded.

Savings just tip us over UC (so we won’t actually starve) but this is allocated to other commitments almost due that aren’t taken into account. We’ll be getting into debt with those very soon if we choose to feed/house and clothe ourselves instead. Insurance won’t cover it as most don’t do pandemic type situations. Fingers crossed very tightly it doesn’t happen as we are in the minority slipping through the net.

UC has a sliding scale of savings. Once you get under £16k you can get a proportion, which then can go up as your savings dwindle until you get to qualifying for the full amount.

Plus council tax relief is the same.

Worth trying? Hopefully this gap will be addressed soon.

We had all our future work cancelled a month ago and are living off the money coming in from the previous work. We usually get paid a month in arrears.

Not sure what we will do after that. We already qualified for benefits, but working families tax credit, not UC.

HSSS it is hard to know our risk to others. What's true for influenza may not be true for COVID-19. I'm thinking about this a lot. When I have influenza, the fever resolves in about 4 days but the cough continues for 3 to 4 weeks.

When I had a mild sore throat a few weeks ago, I didnt return to work until day 9 out of an abundance of caution. And it took a couple of weeks before my sinuses began functioning normally again.

Without access to testing for the virus itself or antibodies to the virus, I feel very uncomfortable with not knowing my status. I don't like this not knowing.

Lucy - Full disclosure here: I haven't done any digging into this, but I would be astonished it it was just that simple. Maybe it will be.

Do some digging. Yes, there are gaps which need to be closed, but yes, there is help coming.

I'm not doubting there is help out there, but I am doubting it won't be straightforward to source, in a goodly number of circumstances.
