What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

I ordered a box of chocolates from Hotel Chocolat for a friend's birthday. They arrived today but the box was damaged and looked quite tatty so I couldn't give it as a present. I rang them and they offered me either a £10 gift voucher or a return label and I could return them for a refund.

I didn't want the faff of that and I still needed a present for my friend so I said I would keep the chocolates and rather than them sending me a voucher could I order another box but with £10 off and no postage. They agreed to that but now I'm left with a box of delicious chocolates. :arghh: I said to my partner, 'it's your lucky day' but I couldn't resist having 2 myself after supper. At least I limited it to two and fortunately I've otherwise had a pretty low-carb day.

@maglil55 well done on the weight loss

@Chook the BS may be ok tomorrow with the fish - another day - another reading - perhaps?

@Rachox Happy holidays!

Brunch - 1 slice of toast and butter. Mug of earl grey and unsweetened almond milk (the double cream is all finished so not buying any more as I have lost 3lbs since cutting back on it the last couple of weeks) so the idea is if I stop it all together hopefully I will lose more weight and I think I am going to cut back on the saturated fats and up the good fats - that's the plan anyhow;) I am taking a step backwards and hopefully will get back on track to where I was before all this lockdown malarkey.

Dinner - 2 Gammon steaks with a fried egg and a little cheese sprinkled over the top. SF Jelly. 1 square of Lindtt 90%. Glass of diet pepsi.

Nice long walk around the loch tonight - no swimmers in sight just dog walkers

@zauberflote and @Chook
MrSlim protests verbally, but then makes the patting lap gesture that is understood to be an invitation. Mixed messages. One for me. One for Cat

And yes have had and greatly enjoyed the elderflower tonic, sadly not available in france.

Today's food,
14.09.2020
Breakfast nut granola, CWC x 2 chunk of cheese, ( so much easier than cooking)
CWC.
Watched a video and ate some cheese.
Lunch sardines in tomato sauce, salad. Water and tea.
Afternoon , combination of heat and stress over tonights French class led to overindulgence in icecream .
Dinner, late after class same chicken and veg curry with cauliflower rice as yesterday, glass of red wine and one of water.
Evening, another glass of pomerol and lemon tea.
More tidying in the garden, but didn't manage any housework.
Edited for typo

@Chook how frustrating with the mackerel! What if it's some other, non-food variable not under your control?
@Annb that sounds very convoluted with your hospital appointment! It sounds like that tea party will be something very special!
@shelley262 I have to say, that "not in a house or yard" sounds so illogical to me also. I am baffled! If somebody tried that here, I would join the "no maskers" in protest (except I would go nowhere near them lol) Has anybody tried "out in the middle of the street" yet? I am so sorry they had to cancel!
@DJC3 never mind the gin, I just want the strawberry fragrance!
Holiday @Rachox what fun!
@Brunneria yippeeeeee you're freeee!
@Goonergal finally an office!
@Mauriac oh you poor pitiful thing stuck with a box of HC... are they dark chocolate? Actually, that is expensive choc, it sounds like!
@Mrs T 123 your plan for getting back on track sounds good and doable. I got a lecture about statins from my cardiologist last winter as my cholesterol had doubled from just barely tolerable to horrendous. So, bye bye cream and butter for me!
@SlimLizzy haha ok Mr Slim actually wants that cat doesn't he! Purrr-rrrrr-rrr
The usual menu today. OMAD day as in, I grazed all day. I have been very very tired and palpitations for a week now. My SpO2 monitor arrived today, number disturbingly low compared to usual. Calling cardiologist tomorrow morning. There is also the headache... I read of a woman who had Covid whose only symptom at admission was low SpO2. Great. Hoping I get a prophylactic test tomorrow.
Good, um.... morning! all

Good morning all.

Happy holidays, @Rachox.
@Chook -- Glad you are feeling better and your blood sugars are settling. Also just wonder whether it could be the lime juice. Personally, my blood sugars tend to go up more than should be expected after having lime or lemon. Maybe some experimentation might be help.
@zauberflote -- Agree, it's a good idea to get it checked out, still hope it turns out to be nothing, though.
@shelley262 -- Hugs for your son and his family -- it must extremely frustrating to look forward to the family gathering and subsequent vacation and then have it cancelled shortly before.
@Annb and @maglil55 -- Well done on the weightloss.
@Annb -- Will be thinking of you Thursday and keeping all available fingers and toes crossed.
@Brunneria -- Glad the test came back negative. Will you go out to celebrate today?
@Mauriac -- Personally, I found chocolate (even if the chocolate is a bit higher carb) usually isn't too bad carbwise (and bloodsugarwise because we usually don't eat large amounts of it.

Yes, they are dark chocolates. I'm trying to let my partner eat most of them but if I can fit in one or two I shan't complain. :D

I hope your SpO2 level improves and you soon start to feel better.

Fasting level this morning 7.7, about the same as usual.

Yesterday I had:

B: Mug of coffee with 150 ml of almond milk, tsp of Splenda and 10 ml of double cream
L: Quorn ‘ham’ with 235g of mozzarella, two tomatoes and 5ml of balsamic vinegar.(when I looked at the label I was amazed how high in carbs it is); 25g of 90% chocolate
Afternoon snack: 1 oatcake with 37g of St Augur and a sugar-free lemonade.
Pre supper: 20g of almonds and 53ml of Pimms with a can of sugar-free lemonade.
Supper: Salmon fillet with 1/2 a small avocado, 2 sun-dried tomatoes, 50g of mixed beans, 50g of lentils, 10g of light mayo. 100g of stewed plums with 2% yoghurt. 2 chocolates.

About 55g of carbs.

Haven't posted for two days, but can't remember what I had the day before yesterday. So, here's yesterday's menu (here's hoping I remember everything):

Breakfast: A double decaffeinated espresso with cream and erythritol (and another one two hours later).

Lunch: Half a DD keto roll with mayonnaise and cheese.

Also another attempt at making white chocolate with pumpkin seeds. This time I had the opposite problem because it didn't quite set and stayed a bit too soft, more like white chocolate cream, but three times a charm, right? Well had a bit too much of it (tempting because it is only about 5g of carbs per 100g) -- so, have to exercise a bit more self-control, I think. (Alternatively, stop making it).

Dinner: Lamb's lettuce with h/m Caesar's dressing with grated parmesan and a little bit of sliced and fried lamb. Dry red wine (have had too much of this also since Covid-19 crisis), so have decided on a mixture of 1/5 red wine and 4/5 water, let's see how this goes.

Late-night/early-morning snack (watching another instalment of Pride and Prejudice): A quarter of a DD keto roll with butter and beef salami and a piece of cheese.

My daughter said the same, she is teetotal and didn’t expect to like the smell, she thought the gin would overwhelm but no, the first overpowering sensation to hit the nose is strawberries. I’m trying to figure out if I can do some sort of cordial for her so she doesn’t miss out
Hugs for those worrying symptoms. How does testing work there? Can you get one sent to you to take at home or is it by appointment at a clinic? Hoping all is well and you feel better soon.

I hope everyone else is having a beautiful sunny day!

@PenguinMum - that camembert on nice bread made me so envious - bread and cheese used to be one of my favourites.

@Annb - I know things are different up where you are but down here we get a letter at the same time we are given the appointment telling us all we need to know before attending for a procedure and if the procedure involves a general anaesthetic we get a sort of pre-op MOT before the big day. Well done on keeping in he 9s - I think if it were me with the stress you are having it would have been much higher.

@shelley262 That is so sad about your youngest son and for the person celebrating their 70th. Some of the new rules seem to make no sense.

@Rachox - I hope you have a lovely holiday

@DJC3 - That omelette sounds as i it were virtually carb free - it really doesn't make sense at all!! I get the feeling that the longer I'm low carbing the harder it is to keep my BGs low. OMG - that strawberry gin sounds wonderful, even though it is gin!! I wonder what it would be like made with vodka instead of the gin

@MrsA2 - sad about the fishy crackers - what do you think went wrong? I went off of cooking with flax when, after buying a huge bag of it, it started smelling a bit odd when I was only half way through the bag. I was told later (by the seller) than I should have kept it in the freezer.

@Goonergal - Well done on the Morrison's delivery! Asda are still sending strange subs each week. Are you mainly working from home? Quite a few of my neighbours are and are dreading being told they have to go back to work in an office.

@Mauriac - Well done to your partner - I couldn't give my husband a box of chocolates and expect any to be left by the end of the day! What is that Quorn 'ham' like? I have looked at it on Asda and see there 2-3 types but the prices vary so I'm not sure which is better.

@Mrs T 123 - Well done on the 3lbs. I never could understand how people its possible to lose weight while using loads of cream but I did once try a couple of weeks on the Diet Doctor introductory plan which involved LOADS of cream, cheese and butter - I was very surprised to not actually gain any weight (but I didn't lose any either). But then, as is often said on this forum, we are all different.

@SlimLizzy - I love it that you are calling the cat Cat - every time I read it I think of the cat character in Red Dwarf.

@zauberflote - I think you are right in that it must be something else causing my high BGs - just can't think what! I hope your SpO3 test goes well and its something that a tiny bit of tweaking will solve. Have you thought about vit B12? A while back Mr C felt awful and we seemed to do a tour of every specialist for everything in Yorkshire - then I read an article about B12 deficiency which described his symptoms - and a few months on taking the tablets he seems to be a lot better.

Hi @ziggy_w - your menus always sound so nice - I have never managed to make those DD rolls. Good luck with making the white chocolate - third time lucky. White chocolate was always my favourite so I'd love the recipe when you perfect it.

Wow!! I just booted up the 'puter - first time since last November - and it brought me straight here to this thread. Usually I use my phone or kindle (or a white thing that looks like a mini laptop - not sure what its called).

My BG at bed time last night was 9.4
My FBG this morning was 10.1

Breakfast: a mackerel fillet fried in butter and drizzled with lime juice

At 1 hour it was 10.1

Then at 2 hours it was..... 11.4 - must be the fat content of the fish has slowed down the rise... but there shouldn't have been a rise!!

I'm really not sure what to think about this now. Mr C says he thinks its a catch-22 situation - I get stressed about testing and therefore my BGs go up - but if I don't test I think I will also get stressed - at least with testing I know whats going on. I feel like saying (pick swear word of choice) and falling face first in to a big dish of apple pie with vanilla icecream

Dinner will be 2 egg mayo in a Lo-dough wrap with salad.

Black decaff coffee until lunchtime and then water.

Just got back from taking partner to the hospital for blood tests and then some shopping so having a late lunch. Tested when I got back and got 6.8 and 7 after not eating for 15 hours (apart from a coffee with almond milk and 10 mils of coffee at around 10.00). I wonder how long I would have to go without eating to get a reading under 6. A week maybe? :shifty:

It tastes quite ham like I suppose but is softer in texture. If I could eat anything I wanted all the time I wouldn't ever eat it but when you are on a dietary regime of any kind you have to make compromises don't you and it's low in carbs and calories and moderately high in fibre so fits my needs very well. I wouldn't want to eat it too often but it's fine now and again.

Thank you, @DJC3 ! I can only speak for testing in my city, it varies wildly all over the country. My PCP has tests. You can walk in to a particular urgent care place and get one-- they had them early "at select locations". Many grocery store pharmacies have them, and the city/surrounding counties all offer free testing at advertised "popup spots". My cardio is a very large practise; I would expect them to have a stash too. And there's always the emergency room at any hospital.
@Chook and @MrsA2 re the ground flax-- yes, flax oil goes rancid very quickly, and does smell fishy! Freezer is where I keep my meal. Whole seeds apparently do not have this problem, but if they get hot when you grind them, then you either lose the benefit of the fats, or make it go bad quicker, or both, I don't remember! I buy it by the truckload from Amazon and put in my chest freezer (where people usually put their co-op side of beef, or their venison you know lol) Chook, B vitamins had not occurred to me! I haven't taken my multi-vits in a while. Glad it worked for Mr C!! Would your mini-laptop be a "netbook"? Like my Chromebook-- no internal storage; very good for people like me who do everything on the web. I haven't had to worry about Windows in ten years!!
Called cardio office and she found me something next Monday <roll eyes>. Apparently if you don't have chest pain you are not eligible for "come right now!", which makes sense I guess. Meanwhile the SpO2 is up in a more normal range, go figure!
Just like that, it's fall! Youall would probably think that 13C is summer, but not around here! My hands are freeeezing!
I have looked up Quorn a couple of times, but I'm afraid I might have a massive allergic reaction, given my massive mold allergies......

Food should look like:
Bfast (already ate) avocado, pecans, boiled egg, flax crisps.
If snax needed: will be, as yesterday's grazing, cottage cheese, skyr yogurt/olive oil, cherry tomatoes, pecans, maybe peanut butter
Supper ought to be something hot and appetizing, but the question is, will I do that? Poor MrZF had a can of soup with cheese n crackers last night.. he deserves macaroni and cheese, or tuna casserole, for this fall day (that way I get to have cheddar for part of my spinach, flax crisp routine!)

Thanks for that. I don't eat meat but miss 'cold cuts' to have with salad.

Hi All
Today started with my usual breakfast of cooled HiLo toast, slab butter lots tea.
Had a h/m Lemon Muffins mid morning made for coffee with a friend in the garden, 5g carbs, so only very occasional treat. Wasnt hungry at lunch so had a tablesp egg mayo with a couple lettuce leaves.
Supper will be chicken, chorizo, red pepper with tin toms and paprika courgetti/pasta for Mr PM. Having a gin, lots soda and ice cos it could be last really hot day of this year.
Just doing my Sainsbury list for next week. Has anyone tried Birds Eye Green Cuisine burgers? They seem to be 3.9g each.

I just checked - the little white lap top thingy is an Acer Chrome. I don't use it often as I always forget the passwords.

They aren't great. The very best veggie burgers are the Linda McCartney ones but they are about 10g carbs each.
