What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good Morning and 5.4 for me today.

A plumbing day :banghead:. Me and plumbing do not mix. Floor fitter wants dishwasher moved, he can work under it but because stop **** seems to have stopped working he says I should replace it whilst we have dismantled the unit surrounding it. He's right of course so I have to get to Plumbers Merchant. He's going to help fit it thank goodness. :)

Stay focused, keep safe, time creeps on, Christmas is knocking.

Sounds like a win.

You found out early it might fail.

It's unencumbered by the usual suspects making access hard.

AND got what sounds like a responsible chap to help you do it....WIN

my top tip.
Get a lottery ticket. ;)

6.10AM FBG 5.8
MrSlim is up before both me and the cat today, not sure why, very unusual. Stll it has helped with FBG. Have been thinking I need to get up earlier. But winter weather and our differing body clocks do not encourage this atm.

Good morning everyone from a quiet and peaceful start here in the dark and dangerous north

The wonder wheel of very slow roast pork atop a cauliflower and shedded sprout colcannon came in at 4.8 this am

The murmured plans for daughter and Mrs Miggins to visit their chosen garden centre didn’t go down too well yesterday. They discovered that it was in a tier 2 area so had to go to another one within our tier 3 area which did not have what they were looking for (whatever that was). I have a dripping shower to sort out so need to find out if what sort of cartridge is in the blender valve. Hopefully the stop tap under the kitchen sink will behave.

@lindisfel - excellent poem - thank you for posting.
@Muddy Cyclist - an inspired study.
@gennepher - 2 good pastels, both making great use of light; sky over gate and a cracking landscape with Bleak House.
@JFWinstone - welcome to the thread; a win for dropping fbg and a hug for the pain.

Painting for today, trying to depict some mist but not really working - oh well.
Have a great pre-bin day if you can, I really must stock up on koffy.

Good morning all, chilly start to the morning so hugs with the cat on the sofa for a bit before breakfast. Fbg down again at 6.7 :)

Morening, if you are new to this thread a big welcome. Well done on your blood sugars being down. It's not easy.

I know he's right but the procrastinating me says let's do it another day, floor is enough hassle, but fitter and Mrs MC think otherwise. :)

Can't win em all, but mist or no mist that's a fine rock face with tree lined terraces. Reminds me of 'The Wall' a black run twisting Mountain Bike track in Afan Valley, takes me over an hour to climb to the peak and then 6 minutes to get down the precipitous track that twists down the rock face, exhilarating and much missed this year, thanks for drawing a pleasing reminder.

Fingers crossed for shower drip repair going trouble free.

Thanks for my study appreciation.

This is a very different post to the one planned around 4.30. Welcome @JFWinstone good to see you here. Plumbing day today for @dunelm and @Muddy Cyclist. I know a very reliable and reasonable one - ex Zimbabwean World Cup cricketer but probably won't travel to the badlands. Great tree arc @Muddy Cyclist reminded me of very similar real life arches in two places back in the old country. Time is never going to heal some hurts. @gennepher I have really enjoyed your last two pieces. Swipey belched out a toxic 5.2 cloud this a.m. If accurate that isn't an issue BUT it is Swipey and it is significantly over the 7, 14, 30 and 90 day averages. Reasons/blame? Obviously Thatcher, Brexit, Johnson then meat, no salad, no alkeroll, winter, sorry tale told by last week's fitbit stats, COVID and my gym conversion being an expensive warehouse atm and The Meeja. - and breathe. Very cold and frosty 33 years ago today - middle son born at 8.03. That Christmas No 1 son was hospitalised with Bronchiolitis and I caught Chickenpox so was banned from visiting. Such fun we all had - especially Julie. Next year No 2 son had pneumonia in November Today's only excitement is the Sky man cometh to resolve an issue driving Julie mad and my 15 min weekly allowance visit to the waste disposal point Pip Pip old toots.
ETA: No 2 son nearly didn't make it home. Some clownshoe came at us going the wrong way round a roundabout on the way home from hospital:arghh: I was talked out of registering him as Kathryn:angelic:

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and all who are engaged in serious discussions about Christmas food shopping.
Now a question. Is / was Christmas a pagan festival and got " borrowed " by others.

A 5.7 this morning on that meter that has a agenda of its own.

Well fellow posters, painters and gamers have you secured your sprouts for the big day yet?
Luckily for us as a nation Boris the Beast is going to Brussels to get some sprouts, me and me's are hoping he brings a few extra back for the sprout lovers amongst you.

This morning Mrs J has informed me that she will be going to a garden centre and me and me's are not allowed to join her, Mrs J has an agenda and apparently does not want interference......more Christmas tat grrrrr.

Well have as good day as you can, my tasks are " laid " out and will not be picked up, no supervision wins hehehehe.

5.2 this morning.

Quite pleased with that because yesterday I felt unusually hungry and had 30g carbs instead of my normal 20g. Had more strawberries and Greek yoghurt and some spoonfuls of almond butter and 3 squares of Mr K's 70% chocolate.

It felt really really wicked but I suppose it isn't really. My excuse is that the Zoom classes were exhausting. Actually it is surprisingly tiring to teach on Zoom.

It is so cold this morning. Was so pleased to get back in the warm after the dog walk. A cup of coffee then off to the farm to get milk and eggs.

Morning...certainly a better sleep last night than for the past few days...could still do with a little more hopefully later this afternoon I can sneak off for a short nap...the Christmas decorations are up finally up...still snotty but the Lemsip Max capsules are doing a good job...off to the chemists to pick up a prescription shortly...no FBG no point with the cold & meds they're bound to be sky high...overall feeling better...keep safe.

Simple answer is 'yes'.

The birth of Jesus was neither recorded nor celebrated until around 360 A.D. when St Julius declared Dec 25 as the birthdate of Jesus.

Why choose such a specific date though?

During that time Christianity was competing against the older Mithraic faith in the Med and Middle East and the Celts to the west. Most people in the empire celebrated Saturnalia which coincided with the winter solstice in other pagan faiths. As the winter solstice and the 'missing days' commemorated the rebirth of the Sun it was an easy swap over.

Most of the Christmas iconography (trees, logs etc) owe origins to both Celtic and Nordic paganism with gift-giving and merrymaking being predominately from Saturnalia.

Even within my own living memory, Santa was often portrayed in forest green (Nordic shamanism) not the well known red and was escorted by Mr Holly, a leprechaun looking chap.

edit to add -

@gennepher @Muddy Cyclist some beautiful artwork there
@lindisfel beautiful words
@JFWinstone those not coming down nicely and welcome to the thread

Swipey says: 6.1 ➡️ - happy enough with that although it was a much better behaved day with no post-golf naughtiness.
Bike done. Admin and cleaning on the agenda. I need to get out more, clearly!

I should add that the fact that the birth of Jesus was neither recorded nor celebrated in the formative years of Christianity does not lend to a denial of his existence. Merely that early Christians considered the crucifixion as the defining moment of his faith.

Also of interest is that the magi that are associated with the birth are Zoroastrian (Parsi).

Both of your post are good answers, but beware or it could lead you being crucified by the zealots.
