I was just using the example of of going to the kitchen. I was a nightmare with my food. I finish a meal and get seconds or a sandwich all the time. I would have take aways or eat a couple of times a week. Washed down with serval beers.
So I had to totally changed my life style. To lose weight.

Good gracious.

How lucky you are.

That is an amazingly different situation from people who never drank several beers and who never ate to excess, yet whose bodies store fat as if they were gold medalists at the olympics.

Congratulations on making those lifestyle changes, but I see that your weight loss experience is not comparable to many other people.

The may reason why I think anyone can lose weight cause three ago. I said the same thing.
It took getting diabetes for me to get my butt into gear and properly do it.
So I had to do the research and find a plan that works for me.

Good for you.
But for some of us our lifestyle didn’t need much changing. Because it wasn’t that that made us fat.
I exercised 5-7 days. Week. Walking swimming, boxing, and biking depending on time of year.
I cooked most of my own meals and rarely ate sweets.
But I found out that I have PCOS and as a result severe insulin resistance.
So it’s not as simple as change what you eat and exercise. To claim that just is just as ignorant as a someone calling you out on Instagram about promoting diet culture when you are sharing your success

I wouldn't have thought much research was required in stopping the huge meals, snacks and beers! Did you work out why you started eating so badly in the first place?
What would you do now if you had carried out your plan and you had only lost a small amount of weight?

but that is You and your body. Making those changes worked for you. Making the same changes hasnt work for others, including me.

Your sweeping statement implying that because it worked for you, it can work for anyone is as disrespectful and excluding as those you complain about for fat shaming.

You are also fat shaming people, because you are blaming those of us who are fat for being that way because, as you see it, we have done nothing to change things. Despite us telling you that we have.

This is deeply unfair.

Please stop and think, and re-read posts before effectively insulting a number of posters on this thread. Posters who have been around this forum for years, are knowledgeable about diabetes and their health. Done the research, made changes and not had the fortune to see all the impact they hoped for.

Imagine then being told they’re not trying hard enough or not aware of options.

You know, science progresses. At some point the scientists may find out why some of us dont lose weight. I wonder if all of those who are disbelieving our struggles and hard work will then apologise for blaming us for a medical condition beyond our control at the moment?

Like they used to do with ME (and still do to some extent) and many other conditions we didnt know about years ago.

I find it so sad that even on this forum, where many have shared their weight stories, there is still a mindset with some that its our fault for not doing whatever the magic thing is we havent done in order to lose weight. And inplications that we are not aware of what we eat, or lie about our diet and exercise etc.

Yeah, finding out why you eat bad is some of the research.

My reason was daft but basically, I didn’t have an weight problem till I hit 30. I could eat what I wanted and never put on weight. I was always hungry.

I have been us a high stress job, working away from home a lot. That also made me comfort eat.

My social life involved drinking, pub, bbqs parties. After a round of golf.

If my plan got my blood glucose down and only lost a little weight. I would be happy with that. Then look for the next part. Where could I improve. I also extremely competitive and don’t lose. So I was never and am never going to let diabetes win.

Like they used to do with ME (and still do to some extent) and many other conditions we didnt know about years ago.

When I was diagnosed with a prolactinoma and PCOS, and (having had it all explained to me in brilliant detail by an endocrinologist) I finally understood that this was why my body behaves the way it does.

I then told my family and friends.
It was amusing (in a very sad way) to watch them struggle with all their habitual judgements and preconceptions.
The sort of faces someone might make as they struggle with severe indigestion, or constipation.
Some of them have never managed to make the adjustment away from judgement and blame.

I have never met a family practitioner who can make that adjustment either.
Yet my endocrinologist congratulates me on my weight management at every appt.

so you wouldnt be happy with that. Your next sentence says you would look for the next part. Assuming there was a next part, of course. For some of us, there isnt.

I am sure that the Andy Warlow attitude is what broke something in my metabolism and possibly my mind.
Like Zand I have stuck to diets and exercised, and was unable to lose weight so was called a liar, delusional, and all the other things - glutton was a term almost bound to come up.
After a while I began to collapse suddenly - no warning at all just wake up in some confusion, though I must have retained some awareness as I did not hurt myself badly, though often had sore arms and one shoulder so I broke my fall and rolled - after years of martial arts it was second nature, I suppose.
I had started out at 147lb with a fair bit of muscle and a 24 inch waist - but I was 'too fat' - even though I could lift a drunken guitarists off the floor and onto the side car - I moved the kit for a folk duo in the early 70's.
If I had told the doctor where to stick his diet sheet, I'd have done a lot better - but GPs are authority figures, and the nurses were quite formidable, and they have always been totally convinced that they were in the right.
I was 35 years old when threatened with being removed from the family home, my husband and first child, to be 'fed properly' when I pretested that I felt absolutely dreadful on the prescribed diet when pregnant. Fortunately it was a Friday and nothing could be done, so I went home and returned to low carb foods. By the time I saw a doctor again I was measurably better and was congratulated on finally starting to do as I was told. That was when I started to lie to doctors.

Yes, exactly that.
When I was diagnosed as T2 in 2011 things changed. My doctors started believing me. They could see from my HbA1c that my way of eating was working and left me to it.

My GP has been far more supportive since she can see my blood test results and see I am not eating sweet stuff etc.

My liver specialist has been nothing but kind and understanding, even though he still cant work out why my liver isnt working properly. He is working WITH me, and said at aour last telephone appointment that he has several patients who, despite low calorie diets and exercise, cannot lose weight. They dont seem to gain wieght either, but are stuck at a certain weight no matter what they do. We are working together to try and find the answer.

I notice that the point many have made on this thread, that we dont gain weight either, but maintain a steady weight, seem to have been missed or ignored.

I am almost exactly the same weight now that I was 23 years ago. Funny that : )

Cycling,
I think my attitude has come form being scared.

They day I found out, I was in hospital due to high heart rate due to extremely high blood sugars. As the doctor said I was on the verge of diabetic coma.

Also by pure luck , I saw a programme about diabetes and complication the next day. So that was it for me and never have look back and wont look back.

I am also a stubborn person, so I wont give hence again don't like losing and wont lose. ( I have once played a 2 days straight game on monopole cause me and one of my pals both wouldn't give in.

I do believe in people, that why I do have the attitude of anyone can lose weight and a lot of the books, I have read on this journey.

one quote got me, was Type 2 diabetes is dietary disease, and can be fixed by diet. Which again probably hasn't helped my attitude.

So sorry to anyone I have offend,

So am I. I fight my weight and my diabetes every moment of every day. Do you imagine I am not scared about uncontrolled diabetes, or the affects of my weight on my health in general?

I do believe in people, that why I do have the attitude of anyone can lose weight
still not learning from this thread? what you believe is wrong. I could throw my heart and soul into believing i can grow 6" tall - it wont make it happen. Misplaced confidence in an outcome is damaging and can be toxic.

So sorry to anyone I have offend,
Your continuing posting and attitude that anyone can lose weight is continuing to offend, and wont stop offending people until you change it.

Sorry to be blunt, but you JUST AREN'T GETTING THE CAUSE OF YOUR CONTINUING OFFENSE, which is deny that some people, including those who have been helping you and posting to you on here, cannot lose weight.

At this point you need to step back, re-think, and apologise for your wrong and insulting viewpoint.

Your initial post was a good one. I assumed you were encouraging folk to be healthy by sharing your success, not nagging them.

The problem is that even in this last post you are still saying that you do believe in people, that's why you think anyone can lose weight. You still don't get that our bodies are broken and although we may have read the same books as you, our bodies haven't read those books, so they don't behave like the books say they should.

Yes many of us here have fixed our T2 by diet, but we still haven't lost weight. I had HbA1cs in the non diabetic range for 9 years through following a low carb diet. Covid19 (in March 2020) has made my T2 harder to control with diet and I suspect I may need drugs (in addition to the metformin that I have just requested) in the near future.

It's the attitude of someone telling someone without legs they can run a marathon if they just try hard enough. Willpower and hard work just doesn't grow back legs, no matter how much you believe that.
Some of us don't have legs when it comes to losing weight because our bodies work different.

I think my attitude has come form being scared.

Not one of us were given the diabetes diagnosis and jumped for joy. Being scared is part of the deal.

The reason why I was with you on your original post is that I genuinely thought that you were being unjustly challenged by fat activists, and I think it's unfair for anyone to dismiss others' lifestyle choices, especially when they are just trying to improve their own situation. I lift weights, I can swim long distances, and I walk hills. I am more affiliated with health culture because that means far more to me than fat activism. But being 5ft 1 and 18 stone, I am morbidly obese and only just out of the super-morbidly obese category. Getting out of that category has taken 8 years of hard work. Imagine 8 years of diet and exercise, and not losing enough for anyone to actually notice?
The blanket statements put a slightly different slant on your original argument. If this is the type of stuff that you are putting on your social media, then it may explain why people are getting a bit annoyed. It's marvellous that you have lost all of that weight, but the "if I can do it anyone can" and the "I'm stubborn so don't give up" comes off as arrogance... and that may be where you are attracting the negative responses.

I think this is a pretty bad analogy. I’m also of the opinion that anyone can lose weight, at least from a physiological point of view.

My thought experiment. If a person with such a condition were locked in an eco-bubble. given a daily ration of, essential fats, essential amino acids, and essential micro nutrients. What would happen?
