It fed four people and a dog.

Saratoga is a prehistoric fish here in out northern rivers

Never heard of dogfish, we have catfish here though, both in our rivers and sea.

That is one big fish! Does is make good eating?

A dogfish is a small shark. "Rock salmon" is any one of several different small sharks, I believe. Its structure is a bit like monkfish because it has no actual backbone - just a long line of cartilege, but it tastes better than monkfish (and is a lot prettier).

Morning all. I'm back from my holibobs (@Rachox, I love that word and I've adopted it. No more breaks or holidays!!) @Annb, I know exactly where you are coming from too! But bg has not been good at all for me. Like you, am starting again tomorrow. But I am going to follow the Slimming World rules again. On that wae, I lost 2 aand a half stones and got my A1c down to 41. I'm fed up of being fat and lacking energy so here goes. Have a lovely day everyone. Nice to be back with my 'family'.

Hello everyone, two days behind again.
Brekkie always slice lc toast and lots of tea.
Lunch Monday was avocado & prawns with mayo and a cold boiled egg.
Supper was mini mestballs and 6 asparagus spears. Ramein of berries.
Lunch yesterday was at a friends and was mackerel & salmon salad.
Supper was roast chicken breast and more baked asparagus drizzled with OO.
Today lunch will be chunk of cheese, slice ham, cheesey coleslaw and cold 3gg to move stuff along in the fridge.
Supper will be two Green Cuisine plant burgers topped with Portobello mushrooms.
@Goonergal and @DJC3 those steaks do look good, was it a special steak place? I find steaks at my local pub underwhelming. It makes all the difference if its cooked well.

Yes! The two I posted were from a place called Cow & Sow, which specialises in large steaks. Really does make a difference to have quality meat well cooked. I’d always stick to burgers and other cheaper/easier stuff in a pub.

Today, so far I’ve eaten some lamb ribs coated in lemon pepper and air fried. Yum!

Once again, the day started badly by finishing off a box of cereal that I had bought for Em, but she decided she didn't want. At least it was wholewheat.

2nd meal today will be a beef and tomato ragout. It's already cooking, so I won't have any reason not to bother eating it. Might make some butternut squash mash to go with it, if I can be bothered.

Having a bad day today - very shaky on my legs. That's partly due to over-use of them yesterday when I went to the chiropodist and struggled to climb into his treatment chair, but also because they are getting weaker. The chiropodist offered to try to give me a push-up but I declined his offer. I didn't want any man getting his shoulder under my backside to lift me. So I made a huge effort and climbed up myself. His chair looks pretty old fashioned - rather like a squarish 60's armchair but it is high up and needs the patient to climb onto a 15" high step to reach it. I actually called our physio department today and asked if they had a Zimmer frame I could try. They have left one at the hospital entrance for Alistair to pick up for me this afternoon. Just about finished the course of Steroid and antibiotic cream on my legs, but they haven't improved. That won't be helping the walking but I think it's actually my swollen feet that are making the whole action of walking difficult and sore, quite apart from not being able to push myself upward to climb stairs (or 15" high platforms).

Actually decided on Al-mosaga'a since I had a couple of aubergines in the fridge. It's in the oven just now using a beef ragout that I made from a pack of beef mince I also found in the freezer. There's loads of the ragout left so I guess that will be a major part of the next few days' meals.

The Zimmer frame is here but I'm a bit disappointed to find that my arms and shoulders aren't up to taking the strain. I'll keep trying and see if will improve.

Asparagus were on offer at my local supermarket, a pound for only 3 euros!
It was hard to choose between eating 4 for 3 days or 6 for 2 days, but considering the turkey eggs needed to be eaten I chose to have them with 2 large eggs and spread them over 3 days. :)
I also had a spoonful of a bought smoked trout/mayo spread to go with it, very tasty. :hungry:

I’d go for that exchange rate, 3 euros for a £ :hilarious:

To stay on topic, following yesterday’s lamb ribs I later had yoghurt, double cream no raspberries and sausages/bacon cooked in the air fryer.

You measure people in pounds (and stones, making everyones weight/weight loss a complete mystery to me), right? You don't measure food in pounds?

edit:
Oh wait, I think I get it. You say pound but you write Lb or Lbs, is that right?

The UK enjoys being different to everyone else and loves sticking with tradition, especially if it doesn't make a lot of sense. Obviously a metric system would make things much easier, but we would have to relearn everything and that's not for us! Especially us oldies. So, many of us stick with Lbs and ozs, £ and d (pence) (would actually prefer to keep the s. as well, but that has been taken away from us). What could make more sense than having a coinage which includes 12 pence (made up of farthings thrupences, sixpences and halfpennies) to a shilling and 20 shillings to the £ (pound) and which also included the regrettably long lost guineas, sovereigns, crowns, half crowns, groats etc?

Food today has been avocado on toast for breakfast and then ham and cheese for lunch (still taking antibiotics when I remember, so need to have some food in my stomach despite the instructions, to stop my stomach rejecting the pills). Later I will have some of the ragout with some palm heart pasta.

But what do you say out loud when reading Lbs and ozs? An Lbs weighs a pound doesn't it?
So if I bought 500 gr of asparagus (which I did :hungry:), do I write a bought a Lbs of asparagus?

Both £ and Lb are pronounced as pound. An oz is an ounce. An s was a shilling and a d was a penny - plural pence. That d is based on the ancient Roman coinage, as is the symbol £, so of course we still use it! Tradition is all. 500 gr is near enough a lb, pronouced a pound. but written as 1 lb. Lbs is the plural. Simples! Well, if you're British and been doing it all your life. So much harder for us to think in terms of grams and kilograms, although we have to these days in most shops. Here you will often hear people referring to a measurement of weight as "in old money", which only makes sense if you're British and know that nobody is talking about money at all, but about weights.

Brilliant! I’d never heard of singing swede, she didn’t say why it was called that, maybe it sings as it is being cooked, with the steam escaping? I will definitely be trying it though, I hate peeling swede.
Me too. Love it. Don’t think I thanked @AndBreathe for posting it. I did see a post previously about putting swede whole in microwave but next time I buy one I am going to give it a go and maybe sing along! @Riva_Roxaban I don’t think I could eat a fish as pretty as that polka dot one or as scary as the prehistorice one!
today had usual brekkie of lc toast and lots of tea.
Lunch was two slices ham, small spoon coleslaw and small but crustless quiche.
Supper will be chunky fish fingers since its Firsday (!) with either asparagus or green beans or both.
@Annb I hope you are feeling better and I wondered if the walking aid might be at the wrong height for you.
