What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Fbg 6.5

From my trail camera in the night.
Cat, Midnight, is watching the foxes.
There are a lot of fox eyes in the bushes keeping an eye on that cat.
The first half of video is from one trail camera, the second half is from the the camera on the other end of the swing.

On another issue - food. Does anyone else have an issue with rapeseed oil? I had a list of foods and products which were safe to eat with my diabetes. But now, bit by bit over the past few months I started having a bad tummy reaction to some foods I was safe with before. This was getting worse. Then it got ridiculous. There have been notices outside some shops here, saying that certain products now have different oils than that stated on them, because of the shortage of sunflower oil. But the notice also said, not to worry because you wouldn't be allergic to them, and a few other things. You would be safe eating the products with the replacement oils.

A little lightbulb came on in my head. Is this what is making me ill?

Experimenting. Writing down what foods were making me ill. But I found one brand of food was fine, but not another brand. So, looking at ingredients list by now. And also by now, the manufacturers have updated their ingredients list. They now list rapeseed oil. That turned out to be the culprit for me. But it is now a lot of hard work reading the ingredients list (I have a magnifying glass with a light on it to help with this). Rapeseed oil is in pretty much a lot of foods now. Even prawns you can eat from the pack, the week before last I bought some from England and there was no rapeseed oil in, but on Saturday in Wales, I went to get some more from a different shop. They actually had rapeseed oil in them, so did the ready to eat mackerel. Some tins of fish I buy as a standby now have rapeseed oil added to the oil in the tin.
When I accidentally eat something, that I have checked the ingredients list, but missed the rapeseed oil ingredient (sometimes ingredients are in two sections), then I suddenly get tummy ache, and am running to the toilet agin. The foods I can buy for cupboard staples and standbys are very restricted now for my diabetes and blood sugars control.

Creative is the now finished painting from yesterday in Procreate.
I find it relaxing putting these leaves on with the Snowgum brushstroke.

Have a good day.

Time for a cuppa

Hi gennepher, rapeseed oil needs to be cold pressed. The cheap stuff has chemicals in it to get heat treated seed give more oil.

Hi @lindisfel
Ah, that is interesting.
So, from what you said there, it is the chemicals added and processing of the rapeseed oil to make a larger quantity as cheap as possible.
And it is the added chemicals with the heat treatment that make it into something which causes a chain reaction within me which sends me running to the toilet...

That makes sense to me.

Lidl sell cold pressed but is much dearer than the much cheaper heat treated. Marjorie uses it

I just use extra virgin olive oil and also butter with no salt.

Morning all. Some people's morning has definitely not been good so far by the sounds of it Rosington Rozzington Bear. D-Ream anyone? @gennepher hug for the rapeseed oil issue. The tins of fish we buy are either in spring water or olive oil but I'll check more thoroughly. Thank you for the video and creative. @dunelm thank you for the art which as usual has become a thing of wonder once the colour is added. Best wishes for the medical event later. @lindisfel the whole issue you raise is a minefield but it does you great credit to be so mindful of how we care for God's creation. Thank you all for the kind words on JKP's progress. @Krystyna23040 great fbg and I'm with Mr K on the result and performance of England yesterday. Not helped by the Woolwich Nomads winning and Spurs being so Spursy either. Today is damp and dull here and my quest for gut microbiome friendly, blood glucose friendly, wallet friendly but even vaguely enjoyable food moves right along. To which end I took advantage of JKP being in the same room to ask her to buy Tim Spector's latest book from Amazon. Will we be intrepid enough to stop buying the Ks and make our own after all the Diet Dr/ you must try this recipe inspired horrors? I think Toyah - Lyrics - was Martin Peters like in her forward vision concerning what to eat and the Greenwashing going on. Despite everything there still remains the possibility that you may have a great day. Can the MAGA crew be thwarted? Will the (really, really, really, really ....) Dark Lord return? Sometimes it's the hope that kills but then I remember - It's Friday but Sunday's coming. Advent is round the corner, Great O Antiphons and all.

Interesting that your levels are so low.. What kind of diet are you following?
Well dinner yesterday was was Moroccan butterflied lamb with some cauliflower and a few baby carrots , but for me it is not always diet I take prednisolone which I have been told normally desensitizes your liver to insulin and can then drive your blood glucose up but sometimes it seems to take a holiday and suddenly your liver can become aware as it were of all the insulin and stop producing glucose and you get a big drop in blood glucose though only happens once in a while thankfully.

Thanks @ianpspurs
The tins of fish currently in my cupboard are all in olive oil, but I used some, and went to replace them. I was not checking the ingredients list at that time, just buying identical replacements. And by the way, it said fish. in olive oil at the front of the tin.

Then, awhile later, one tin of fish upset me. Why? It was one of my safe foods. Checked ingredients - 38% rapeseed oil. Ingredients list told me there was a tiny amount of olive oil in the tin, but an additional 38% rapeseed oil. But I didn't see that until later. The other two tins of fish I had bought also had rapeseed as the oil. They ended up at the food bank. I felt guilty sending them to the food bank.

Some mayo I buy, said olive oil on the front. But when I got home, it was the same as the fish. It was nearly all rapeseed oil, and had been wafted over the olive oil, so that the description of olive oil mayo was correct...in a sense. But it was misleading marketing.

I have found the same with other products I buy which say olive oil on the front, but in actuality has 30%/50%/80%/whatever rapeseed oil in it. Again, misleading marketing.

Thanks for the link, and link to words.

You have a good day.

Your issue with rapeseed oil and so many other ingredients is obviously genuine and a big problem. There do seem to be a few posters elsewhere who are puritanical in their condemnation of some foods if not whole food groups and ingredients as non food or positively evil. How can anyone be sure any research into the effects of the "wrong" food/ingredients isn't funded by opponents or designed solely to prove a point? We do seem to have reached a stage where whatever you want to condemn as harmful there will be research and definitely "evidence out there" to "prove" it conclusively. Cui bono? There is always a wise crowd who "won't be fooled" as the last few years amply demonstrates Then there is the issue of honesty in labelling products. It is beyond naive to be completely sure that the food labels are accurate and the producers are honest. Brexit and these trade deals will not help there. That's not to say one just sits head in hands and says oh well why bother? Best wishes with picking your way through this minefield. Anyhow, this tin foil hat is getting uncomfortable and my eating window is now open. What's in this coffee with cream? Do I feel lucky? Well do I? Covfefe everyone.

You don’t get a Rozzington Bear in months and months and then two posts come at once.

Swipey will be ready pre-lunch
Rang the surgery for Knee X-ray and bloods results.
(Wrenched knee in golfing holiday on the first hole, on the first course. on the first day, in the first bunker!)

Bloods - a1c at 59 which is not as bad as I feared after weeks of living out of a travelling car and microwave meals for the work Poppty-Ping

Knees - only moderate arthritic change in the 9-10 years since I last had scans (where I could barely move) so instructions to return in 10 years or if pain management is no longer effective.

Slightly better morning than how it started!

That sounds better RB - (spelling noted) A1c and knees good all things considered.

Morning all .

Early start for me.
7.9..poor nights sleep ..oh well.

Workmen in, so an early morning breakfast with Steph & father in law to get myself out of the way.
Most enjoyable.

Showed Steph your post @dunelm, she asked where you took the photo....praise indeed.

A long day, can't wait to get back home to a quiet home, though.

Rainy day here, hope it's more clement where you are.

@gennepher I realise this with full on chat is better for me but I can’t fathom out how to get on this I’ve clicked threads and new posts but I’m struggling to find my way around it all, I’m 76 years old not a teenager who’s been using a computer al my life, if I’ve posted on wrongly it’s been when I’m answering posts . I wasn’t aware it can change the area I’m on or if this is what’s happening it’s not intentional I’m just not used to this site yet, and yesterdays online outburst was sheer frustration because of all this and the lack of understanding from the moderators.
I’m trying to follow rules but I need time to find my way around all this. K

Definitely - I feared the worst because I was dragging my leg around the rest of the golfing holiday like a club foot special!

Bloods way better than I thought as it was a bit snack central at the jolly old BBC during a busy summer but not many shifts on the horizon at the moment so plenty of chance to eat a lot cleaner.

Back to logging on MyFitnessPal and carb counting so let’s see how that and Swipey get along. Haven’t moved up to Libre 2 … yet. Hearing iffy things with using the sensor off phone apps and that you need the reader, which you can only get by sending back your Libre 1 reader, because … of course!

I believe we are on Libre 3 now but Libre 4, 5 and 6 ...... will be along soon enough so I'd wait it out. Not sure what the equivalent of Moore's Law for CGMs is - Fung's Law?

Thanks very much Ian for that informative reply.

Because the way my body reacts to a lot of bought stuff, this is all partly why I was growing my outdoors vegetable garden. I do not use pesticides or any chemical in this garden. I also grow microgreens using non gmo seeds. I have to trust the sellers of these. I also have a hydroponics growing system with LED lights. But all this is mainly for greenery, and herbs.

I am not some new age weirdo in this respect, I simply need food that does not upset.

Enjoy your coffee and cream.

By the way shop bought double cream upsets my stomach now (I have no idea what oil they are using to thicken it with now, something cheap, because pre covid I was fine with it), but the dairy which sells unpasteurised milk and thick cream which is heaven, my stomach is okay with both of those.

You are doing all the right things for you. The key takeaway from Tim Spector's work for me is - shock horror - we may all be the same genus and species but our bodies and their reaction to food are unique. Who knew? Interesting about cream. I can drink unsweetened black tea but black coffee is a step - well many miles - too far.

I understand @Granny_grump_
I find it harder to get straight to this thread now the site has been updated. I have Android and Apple devices. Each device has a slightly different way to get into the site. And the layout is different on the different devices.

I am 73 years old, so I am a batty old biddy!

I use the app on one device, it is my pixel 3a phone, it gets me in this thread easier, but I don't like the layout of it at all in that device to respond to posts.

I have something set up on my old iPad Pro, and I have no idea precisely how I did it. The left side of the screen which says a load of things including 'watched threads'. I click on that and it brings me here. I have already, from before the site updated recently, had this as a watched thread.

Maybe someone else can explain this better than I can.

Yes, you need time to get round it. But hey, you are only 3 years older than me, so still a spring chicken !!!

Useful post by @gennepher

Best way I found is.
On mobile, to search the alarm bell icon.
Sure on other devices, the alarm bell icon is visible somewhere

That takes me to all the replies and posts on this and other threads I follow.

I say that assuming you selected WATCH this thread to begin with ?

To check, see top of page. choice is to WATCH or UNWATCH..
Make sure your showing WATCH.

Pretty sure moderators will have a considered view to infringements and read more into a post then simply what's actually written.

A difficult path to tread, I'm sure.

As I'm sure we're all frustrated by something at times.

But I doubt any will have no real life experience or empathy for how difficult differing age groups can find the more digital world of today.

If I can be of any help, please do pm me, and I'll happily assist if I can.

Found myself being ridiculed when I first started posting years ago on one forum, for not being wise enough to post a link that wasn't a 5 liner from Amazon or google.

Which just reaffirmed my strong belief in never looking down on some one, unless offering them a hand up.

Deep breathes, @Granny_grump_
No shame in not knowing
We all make mistakes when we're starting something new.

How else DO we learn ?

Have a good day.

Brilliant reply from @jjraak there @Granny_grump_
I also use his method of the notification bell to get in. I couldn't think how to explain it!
You will get this.
You will find your own way in, depending on your device.

Let's do a happy dance now!
